I just started Game of Thrones and I wonder why there was so much outrage over Sansa and Cersei’s rape scenes but not Dany’s?
People complain the former two’s scenes were graphic but arguably her scene is the most graphic. She’s shivering and crying and this giant man who is at least a decade older than her casually wipes away her tears, takes her clothes off, pins her hands to her sides when she tries to cover herself, runs his hands all over her, then forces her to her hands and knees and none of it is cut away from. Unlike with Sansa and Cersai she’s pretty much naked.
And yet just because she decided to take control of her situation the only way she can given she has no escape or choice and she’s too weak to fight Khal Drogo her story is a “romance” not the story of a rape victim and somehow Khal Drogo is this awesome loving husband character that didn’t deserve to die. I also hate that Jaime was portrayed as this man manipulated by his evil sister when he pretty much raped her in front of his son’s corpse but that’s a topic for another post.
It really does baffle me that somehow Sanaa’s rape was what made people declare the show went too far. Dany and Sansa went through practically the same arc. They were both young virgins sold to another somewhat barbaric kingdom by someone they trusted, the only difference is how they coped with it, and also Khal Drogo wasn’t as much of a sadist as Ramsey.
