Jimmy drunkenly sings out of tune: "The winner takes it all." Steals the show (to open-mic karaoke standards, at least). It's his big day, he enjoys himself.
Chuck, who's been carefully moderating his drinking, sings, each note in tune and perfectly articulated: "The loser standing small." He doesn't want to be onstage in the first place.
Jimmy doesn't play by the rules. He cuts corners, takes shortcuts, cons people and gets what he wants. In the end, he lands on his feet; he is the winner.
Chuck follows the rules to the dot, to the goddamn ampersand. He takes pleasure in being educated and just loves rules (like "take 'em out to Applebee's on Saturday night" loves them). However, this feeds his ego, which leads him down a self-destructive path: that of the loser. He, quite literally, loses "it all."
