I was really into his character and really related with how his emotional problems and anger can hurt or drive the others around him away and how he deals with that in a world of ever-growing reasons to be angry, distrusting, and distant. The scene with his family only drove it home even further when you realize Abraham is the man you want to be in the apocalypse but its also the man he doesn't want to be and we see that with how he opens up with ricks group and especially with his interactions with Eugene.
Abraham goes from seeing him as someone who lied to him, someone that he constantly has to protect and someone he constantly insults until this drives Eugene to feel underappreciated and then causing Eugene to prove himself to the one man who Eugene thinks can survive their fucked up world leading to Abraham starting to realize that people look up to him and trust him just like his family did before his killing spree in the supermarket. Abraham swallows his pride and tells Eugene that he is a survivor and that he believes in Eugene (even though I personally believe Abraham didn't believe that when he said it but cared about Eugene and like when your kid tells you they want to be a astronaut, its just so hard to tell them no) showing that he is slowly opening up more.
and then his love for Sasha and his curiousness for how Glenn and Maggie could have a baby in the apocalypse really show development for him and how he wants to start a new life with a new family and rebuild what he lost while slowly becoming the better man that he wants to be and the one we want to see. Then they killed him off before we could ever see any of this development or see Abraham happy with who he is and see him be happy with another family in season 9 and now we will never get to see this story arc that got me so invested ever since he was on screen. Abraham died way to soon
