Appreciation post: 'The Deuce' actress Emily Meade, who recently admitted she was ‘rejected for yet another job after not working for two years’

She wrote that on IG last week.

Meade was fantastic on The Deuce, imbuing Lori with a toughness, sadness and intelligence you could understand from a simple glance. It was a tragic role ultimately, though also a full one. She got to play a full arc over the show's 3 seasons, was captivating throughout and became a standout by show's conclusion. All the while taking on a character who could not have been easy to play: a prostitute and sex worker in the 70s and 80s, with all the sexual situations and violent ones that meant in Lori's case.

Anyway, I'm a big David Simon fan who loved The Deuce and thought Emily Meade was great in it and deserved a bit of love. If there's any justice in Hollywood a great role will come her way soon.

**Fun fact for those not aware: her speaking up off-set during Season 2, asking for an 'advocate for sex scenes' like they have for stunt scenes, was the impetus for the hiring of Hollywood's first intimacy coordinator, now an industry standard.
