Ron had so much potential.

So yeah he was annoying and a dick to say the least but having him be stabbed through the chest by Michonne was kind of a weak send-off for him when he had so much potential to be a great character. For Starters,his rivalry with Carl felt…weird to say the least. Imo it wasn’t built up properly or it just didn’t have the pay-off other rivalries have had,and it sucks because Ron was essentially Carl’s Shane equivalent and it was very clear that was probably the intention with Ron. To give Carl a Shane-equivalent but here’s the thing,Rick and Shane’s friendship to rivalry was built up overtime,it wasn’t like with Ron and Carl where the next season they immediately tore at one another’s throats,Rick and Shane’s rivalry and tension was built up and by the penultimate episode of Season 2 payed off drastically,Shane’s death ended up being the most significant part of Rick’s development whereas

-Carl barely changed after Ron’s death

-The tension was just presented like it was always there and was not built up in the slightest it was just one episode Ron now suddenly hates Rick and Carl and wants them gone or dead and the worst offender

-Carl didn’t even get to kill Ron! It was Michonne that killed him

Ron could have gone down so many paths had he lived.

A. Ron after shooting Carl’s eye is simply knocked out and Ron slowly devolves into more madness and could possibly become a Savior in Season 7 or 8 and idk,maybe Negan kills him cause he tries to rebel on him,Ron fights with some other kid who kills him in the sanctuary,maybe even during the raid Carl enacted in 7x7(season 7 episode 7) Carl shoots Ron and gets revenge or something but maybe Ron could get killed during the Saviors arc or maybe even Ron joins the whisperers but in this timeline Ron could join one of the larger groups as one of the main villains akin to idk Simon or Beta.

B. Carl and Ron develop and friendship overtime and learn to forgive one another,and then when it’s time to Kill Carl,Carl will give Ron his hat to wear but Ron will not wear it instead keeping it locked in something to treasure as something about ‘Ron keeping Carl’s hat as a reminder and/or the last remnant of his friend’ and then Ron will fill Carl’s role in Season 9 and 10 as Judith’s older brother figure and have Judith prove to him that she is worthy of Wearing Carl’s hat and have that be a major part of Judith’s arc throughout Season 9 and maybe 10.

Those are the main paths I could see Ron going down but there are way more possibilities where Ron could’ve been used to his maximum potential.
