Heels is about two brothers and rivals - one a villain, or "heel," in the ring; the other a hero, or "face," war over their late father's wrestling promotion, vying for national attention in small-town Georgia.
Let me just say I don’t like sports and I have never had an ounce of interest in wrestling and yet some how - I am loving the shit out of this show.
I only tried Heels late at night because of Stephen Amell and it hooked me instantly — it had an amazing pilot, and I feel like that’s a tricky thing to do. But the best part is that it only went uphill from there.
From the cinematography, the costumes, the acting to the writing, it’s all just so wildly dynamic and unpredictable. The wrestling scenes exist for this cast to just unleash their electricity and really shows off how great they can act — it’s awesome.
If I had to pitch it to you: It’s like a grittier Ted Lasso. It’s dramatic, and tense as fuck, yet also hilarious and wholesome. Characters are consistent and they make sense - and they talk about their problems! I know that’s a reason why we all love Ted Lasso, not use to seeing characters talking out of a problem.
Heels is created by the same talented guy who created Loki. I never could have guessed it - two completely different genres of shows and Michael Waldron absolutely nailed it both.
I highly recommend it!
