Seasons 9 and 10 are the best seasons in a long time

I’m like 5 or 6 episodes into season 10 and seasons 9 and the first few episodes of 10 are the best seasons in a long time. They’ve had some episodes where the filming is a bit eccentric and feels like there are new writers or directors but overall I’ve been enjoying it. I’m actually kind of glad Rick is gone because the show got stale when the main focus was on Rick and had this cycle of “group gets to new area, group meets new bad guy, group fights bad guy and overcomes, group gets to a new area.” Plus Rick’s self righteousness and flip flopping on his ethics started annoying me at times.

I like that seasons 9 and 10 have experimented with time shifts and we get to feel the show progress and see character evolution. I also like the creativeness of the Whisperers as new antagonists. It’s a fresh take by having this group who skin walkers and wear skin masks as a survival method. Like it’s not something I would have thought about happening previously.

I also like how the show is allowing Negan’s character to evolve. Not gonna lie I found it cruel to keep anyone locked in a cage for 7 years without even getting to have some time outside. I mean even Ted Bundy got time outside every day. It just kind of annoyed me because it’s like if you aren’t going to ever trust him or allow him to be changed if possible then you shouldn’t even keep him alive because it’s inhumane.

I never saw Negan as someone like Ted Bundy that couldn’t be rehabilitated. He Did screwed up things but I never saw him as a pure psychopath incapable of empathy. Even in season 8 we got to see elements of Negan’s humanity show through. I love that his character has such an affinity and love for kids. He likes teaching them things and I think he also likes them because kids tend to have less bias and filters against you. He can talk to them and they listen and vice versa. For me at least I think Negan was just a product of his environment. I also think people can change and if someone can admit their mistakes and embrace true change then I support it. “Every saint has a past; every sinner has a future.”

But yeah idk guys. I love a good drama and I’m really loving the focus back on characters and their relationships with each other. Seeing people pair up and feel things. Hope for the future. Seeing them bring elements of society back and showing it to kids born after the world ended. I’m just really enjoying the show for the first time in a long time
