I'm stunned at how good the character development is in Squid Game

I wouldn't be surprised if everyone yawns at another Squid Game post but goddamn, I literally cried in the marbles episode. I've never seen a show so perfectly develop such a huge cast of characters without or very little use of flashbacks. Is anyone else blown away by this? I feel like I know so much about SO many characters in this show and it's all written perfectly, woven into the interactions and dialog of characters fighting for their lives, in real time. In this one regard, it might possibly be one of the most balanced single seasons of television I've ever seen.

It's simultaneously a brilliant character study and a horror / world building / suspense masterpiece on the plot side side of things, which progresses linearly and thus KEEPS the tension at a maximum. If this were a normal show, we'd have seen so many non-linear story telling tropes using flashbacks that I probably would have dropped it a few episodes in.

Apologies for yet another Squid Game post but I just had to see if other people here also found this to be as remarkable as I found it to be. For all the great things about this show, the writing on the character development side of things is just mind bogglingly good
