Frank Darabont
Strength - really grounded and good characters. Each character had purpose and unless it was intended, all the characters were likeable
Weakness - too adventurous/creative. His creative walkers weren’t very good and his adventurous ideas for S2 and the budget pushed him out of the job.
Glenn Mazzara
Strength - amazing pacing and antagonists, 2B and 3A are paced really well and the Governor and Shane are two of the best antagonists the shows had.
Weakness - over reliance on killing off characters to create shocking moments. Think of the major deaths of S3, Andrea, T-Dog, Axel etc, all deserved better and he planned on killing Carl and Beth.
Scott Gimple
Strength - storytelling. Some of the best arcs happened under Gimple, End of the Governor, Terminus, Beginning of the saviours, Alexandria introduction and on the road.
Weakness - killing off characters before their story is done. Beth, Carl, Noah, Abe, Tyreese. They all were killed too soon and their potential was not either not noticed or ignored
Angela Kang
Strength - character development. Some of the best arcs in the show come from Kang. Negan’s arc in S9-11 has been phenomenal, Gabriel’s darker path, Beta’s madness.
Weakness - disappointing deaths and arc endings. Siddiq, Beta and Pope, all had disappointing deaths and they should’ve had more of an impact.
