[Everything] Medieval Yorkshire may have practiced corpse mutilation on the dead in order to prevent zombies

So much of George RR Martin's world is based around medieval europe, and there have been some interesting comparisons between the War of the Roses and GOT. Ceremonial dismemberment in order to prevent 'the dead from rising' is really interesting, especially since it fits into the white-walker niche.
