[EVERYTHING] Confiding in Catelyn

Maybe this has been covered before, but why did Ned never confide Jon's parentage in Catelyn?

Catelyn's hatred and mistreatment of Jon was rooted in him being a bastard. He represented not only Ned's infidelity, but also a potential threat to her children in case Ned pulled an Aegon and legitimized him. Even so, she wasn't irrational or cruel. Since the other children all loved Jon, I have to assume that she atleast tried to keep her attitude towards him in check. Had Ned told her the truth, she might've actually come to love and care for him.

It couldn't be that he was worried about her blabbing, right? Perhaps he couldn't have trusted her in the beginning, but over time Catelyn had proven herself to be smart and capable. And she'd have definitely understood the enormity of the situation and importance of never talking about it again.

Or was it simply because he promised Lyanna to keep it a secret? That seems like a case of following the letter over the spirit. The promise to keep it a secret was to ensure Jon's safety and I'm pretty sure that had Lyanna lived, she'd have been okay with sharing the secret with Cat. Prioritizing the words of the promise over the happiness and well-being of both Cat and Jon doesn't seem like a well-thought out decision.

Are there other possible explanations here?
