Mr. Mayhew goes to see Saul. I don't get it.

Okay. Season 2 Episode 8. You know what it is - Its 'Better Call Saul.' Great episode and all, however the scene in Saul's office with Walt posing as Badger's uncle left me confused in two ways.

Firstly, this line from Saul: "There's still a few details to be ironed out but now that the DEA is involved, I think he's [Badger] looking at time served, then probation." He then clearly moves to close the conversation by standing up and telling Walt to leave his number with Francesca. Are we to believe that this is the alternative to taking the deal? If so, what a ridiculous line to give Saul. Why would Saul say that implying that this is Badger's fate and then say goodbye to Walt? Shouldn't he simply tell Walt about the deal and how Badger is holding it up, acting scared? He only goes into it when Walt fights the deal option, which only comes up after Walt asks why the DEA are involved. I initially thought that "time served plus probation" is the result of taking the deal, with reduced jail time, the alternative being a much longer jail sentence. However, this wouldn't fit, because Brandon takes the deal, revealing info about Heisenberg and stays out of jail.

Secondly, when Walt attempts to bribe Saul with $10,000. What is Walt hoping for here, as an alternative to talking to the DEA? Then Saul says, "Are you saying what I think you're saying?" What are we to believe Walt is saying here? And given what we later discover about Saul being anything BUT moral, why does he not accept the bribe. This is Saul Goodman we're talking about here!
