I think we could all see a ton of what we saw coming from a mile away:
-
Troy being outcast instead of killed
-
Troy surviving being outcast
-
Troy coming back and causing major problems
-
The ranch being overrun by a horde
-
When it comes down to who lives, Troy or Jake, of course the good guy, the moral compass character dies. Of course the chaotic, psychopathic character is who survives.
And I'm sure there are more.
I would have really loved to see at least one of these be subverted. Having Jake kill Troy and then slowly over the course of the next season we are given clues that he is actually the worst of his entire family but just the best at hiding it? That would have been awesome. The actor totally had the range and look to pull off that heel turn and to play a sociopath or whatever he would have been.
But overall, I am really enjoying this season and in fact I like this series more than TWD (specifically due to this season) but the last few episodes, culminating in this one, just felt so predictable and safe. We all knew the stuff I listed above was going to happen and it doesn't help that the zombie apocolypse is already so predictable and cyclical (find a home, make it nice, encounter an enemy, fight to keep home, lose family/friends, abandon home, go searching for new home, find a home, etc).
