Theory/interpretation: Gus Fring.

Here's my theory on Gus' past; former poisoner/elite assassin for the Pinochet government. But it goes deeper then that: I think Gus is meant to be the true parallel to Jesse-from bad to 'good yet criminal' to bad.

Let's look at what was mentioned about Gus' past, and what we know about Pinochet from the real world. Amongst many other human right violations, he's been near proven to have ordered the assassination of a Chilean diplomat in Washington (Pablo Neruda) in 1973. Poison was rumoured. In his own country, he was responsible for the 'disappearance' of at least 663 Marxist MIR guerillas (Wikipedia, but there was a source-147).

My guess is that Gus was one of these assassins, but then ran away because of-three guesses-Max. It's up to interpretation, their relationship. But it was close enough for Gus to decide to leave the country.

Before you think this is that unrealistic, look at Walt and Jesse's journeys, Mike's too. Morality can evolve a lot over the years.

Our dear Hector calls Gus 'the chicken man' in the flashback in Hermanos, right? Well, what is chicken a slang word for?

Coward. Yeah. As he says in the same episode, 'family is everything'. Is it hard to imagine him picturing a state/nation as that different-order, permanency, discipline? All things we can see him imagining the Pinochet government as, right?

As for why Hector/Eladio doesn't kill him, my guess is that the other assassins fled at some point too-Gus was just first. If Hector/Eladio kill him, they could come after him in revenge. And my guess is that Gus was one of the domestic, e.g. The Marxists assassins-hence the 'You are not in Chile any more.

Now, I'm not saying Gus was an angel at this time. He still wanted to go into meth and all after all. But think on Jesse in his 'middle stage'-the beginning of the show. Conversely, he wasn't that great a person, morality wise-but we could see the potential for him to shift back.

TL.dr. Gus and Jesse are the true parallels of each-other- from bad to good to bad, and from good to bad to good-always with hints of the other, and the potential for it-well, except for the 3rd stage, anyway.

What do you think? Also, yes, I will be starting BCS tomorrow. Could it change my mind on any of this, without spoilers?
