Lets talk about ecological change, how do you think the native US wildlife would change after the zombie apocalypse hits?

I live in the area where TWD takes place and know the local fauna well.

Squirrel populations wouldn't change much, zeds definitely won't be able to catch them. Raccoons will probably stay the same, except those that rely on cat food. Armadillos and opossum are a little more slow and playing dead is a bad strategy, so they might see a small dip. Deer will hit a population bubble in the first 2 years because of a lack of hunting, but the 3rd year you'll start to see mass starvations during the winter. The large cat population will follow that trend. Coyotes and wolf will suffer a decline as their night calls will attract walkers to dens. Wild turkey are the clear winner here, no turkey will ever be caught by a walker. As dumb as they are, they've got great prey instincts and avoid all trouble.

Except for wild pigs, they'll be the best off. Aggressive hunting campaigns haven't been very successful at controlling their populations and a rutting adult male would have no problem shredding a dozen zeds. I think the pig popukation would surpass post-zed human populations by a factor of 10.

How do you think local populations would change?
