It is often mentioned that Jamie struggles with the loss of his hand. He is a warrior, and he fights with the right arm. He is little else, and has basically been castrated of it.
I’ve wondered, with all the craftiness of Westeros and some of Essos at his disposal why he hasn’t had, what some might contribute to, a “hook” or a sword fastened to be secured to his arm. It could be removed for the likeness of the golden hand he wears, and simply screwed on when it is time to go about his business.
It really seems like this is the most obvious answer to keep him relevant in the kingsguard or in any situation, really. I understand that the character has been written to be humbled by this trait but with the amount of likewise craftiness seen throughout the world, and surrounded by the most talented artisans, it really blows my mind that this wasn’t the most obvious option.
Imagine the Kingslayer with an optional valaryian sword for a hand. In the books Brienne admits that at his full strength Jamie Lannister could be bested by no one in the realm.
