[NO SPOILERS] Unpopular Opinion? I loved how dark (literally) S08E03 was...

In my opinion, it completely added to the whole unknown, chaotic mess that the battle actually was. It made me feel helpless and, at times, utterly confused as a viewer and, in return, led me to sympathize with the Living and what they were up against that much more. It made me feel a part of it rather than simply a spectator. Especially with all of the close-up POV's throughout the battle to make you feel like you were actually a part of it rather than spectating with nice and clear wide shots throughout.

I really appreciated it and was kind of disappointed to see so much disapproval of it the last couple of days. If we, as viewers, were screaming in our living rooms " HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON", think about what the characters were feeling...it was a beautiful and suspenseful stylistic choice and I freaking loved it.

This may not be worth a post and will probably be downvoted, but I am not seeing many "Pro-Darkness" people out there so I wanted to make sure it is known there are some who actually appreciated it rather than simply tolerating it.

EDIT: Holy shit, thanks for Gold! Thought I was posting a controversial opinion here...glad to see people agree!!

The ending to granite state would’ve been a good way to end the series

Not better than felina, but the last shot of walt not being at his seat in the bar with the theme song playing would’ve been a damn good ending. It would’ve left what happened next up to the viewers. Felina was still perfect and better though.

All the feels for Hank

One thing I didn’t notice the first time I watched the series, is the how hard not being able to crack the case on Hesinberg hit Hank. He’s an ace DEA agent who’s been extremely successful and could take one look at a crime scene and have it figured out until he couldn’t fathom his brother in law being a king pin drug dealer.

[SPOILERS] People aren't upset that the main cast didn't die, people are upset that they survived situations they shouldn't.

This last episode was atrocious in that regard. Everyone was so close to dying over and over again, they all were put in impossible situations, but every time the camera shifted back and forth they were suddenly fine again.

If the writers didn't want certain characters to die at at certain points they shouldn't put them in such scenarios from the beginning.

Of everything in this show, from White Walkers to dragons, it's this insane plot armor everyone suddenly has which makes the show feel incredibly unrealistic to me.

As examples:

Jorah was in the frontline of the Dothraki charge, he should've died there.

Half the cast was in the frontline of the charge of the undead army, they should've died right there.

Sam was laying on the ground crying half the episode, how did he survive?! Did the wights pity him and left him alone?

The worst example is when the Night King resurrected more wights and they surrounded Jon Snow. He had a small army of them around him, but the camera shifted focus to someone else and when the camera went back to him he fended them, a small army of brutal, fast and powerful zombies, off long enough for Daenerys to save him.

I don't want every main character dead, I just hate seeing them in scenarios any irrelevant character wouldn't survive over and over again.

[Spoilers] I just finished the show for the first time ever and I hated Walter White

Hey guys, I just finished the show for the first time ever! Even if nobody reads this, I just want to get this off my chest. I have no one to discuss this with. Sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am a little late to the party, so obviously over the years I picked up a few key bits of the show (before I actually watched it):

  1. This is the best show ever
  2. Walter dies at the end
  3. Walter is loved, perceived as cool, etc.

The first two seasons made sense to me according to this list,- I loved Walter as an anti-hero, I kinda disliked Jesse for messing things up all the time, HATED Skyler, HATED Marie, both were annoying as hell, everybody else was just your typical antagonist - Hank & the cops, the drug dealers, etc.

But that all turned around during the mid 3rd season I'd say. I'm not sure when, but little by little, Walter's ego started to annoy me. Little by little I saw how kind-hearted Jesse really was, how not so unreasonable Skyler was, I even started rooting for Hank to get Walter.

By the last season, I wanted:

  1. Walter to lose, not die from cancer or escape/go to jail, but REALLY lose - his family, his money, his everything, a will to live so to say. I wanted him defeated and rub it in his face. I really hated him, he was a greedy, egostic piece of s. The turning point for me was already at the time he killed Gus. Not because I particularly liked Gus (though I didn't dislike him), but as Mike said "you had a good thing going, but you had to F it up". And when Walter killed Mike, I hated his guts.
  2. Jesse was my fave character by the end, a true protagonist! Even though he killed the Gale, which is something I really disliked, he was still just a kid with a good heart, who got mixed with wrong people. Always sticking up for the kids, having a hard time killing people, not being interested in the money, truly caring about people, being super loyal, even respectful ("Mr. White"), etc. There was not an ounce of greed in him, nor evil. I really wanted for him to get out and live a happy ever after.
  3. I still didn't like Skyler, Marie neither, I wished their scenes would end quickly. Even thought they weren't wrong, they were just annoying as hell. And Skyler was just an asshole throughout the whole show.
  4. The 3 characters I actually liked: Goodman was a fucking MVP. Handsdown, I expected him to grab all their money and run or at least betray them all. But nope, he was ALWAYS there to help. And Jesse's got the second spot about being the MVP. Also, Mike was loveable because he stuck up for Jesse.

Overall - I rated the characters ESH, like the subreddit AITA, I'd vote everybody was an asshole. This was an ESH show. Thanks for reading, you guys have a great day!

A Screenwriters Perspective: Ranking The Walking Dead Seasons

Hello, I study film. That doesn't give my opinions any particular weight or importance, but it does give them a different perspective that I thought might be interesting, mainly since I've found my opinions on the show's seasons are not shared by the majority of viewers.

So here's my list, with brief explanations, from worst to best.

  1. Season Seven - This season didn't know what it was supposed to be. It wanted to be grim for our survivors, but it didn't want to commit. It wanted to present new consequences, but ultimately didn't have the guts to follow through (e.g. Daryl's temper causing Glenn's death, only to be forgiven by Maggie the next time they see each other. Very lazy writing). This season had a ton of potential, like that Daryl-Maggie conflict, the conflict of freedom vs security under Negan, etc. Ultimately, the writers went for the safest, fanfare resolutions and they just didn't feel real. Also, they really squandered the potential of Negan and Ezekiel with some silly writing. It was a tonal mess, and even the soundtrack and incessant musical overlay was an indicator that Gimple had lost sight of the story's tone and vision.

  2. Season Eight - Had a lot of S7's flaws, particularly in the first half. Carl's sudden humanitarian commitment came out of nowhere (he gunned down Negan's men just the season prior) with zero development or build. It made his death silly, and it was hard to take his legacy seriously when we didn't know why he was suddenly so peace-loving. The second half made some strides in more grounded character work that was seriously missing previously, and finally nuanced Negan rather than trying to give our protagonists an easy villain to despise. But it was a little too late.

  3. Season 6 - This season is where you start to see the cracks. Gimple claimed once that he thought of the show as Star Trek - a mass fanfare phenomenon. In my opinion, that is a complete misinterpreted and a affront to the integrity of what was, at one point, a gritty and cinematic drama. But Season 6 is where you see that Star Trek vision take its first steps (though it is not realized until Season 7). There are some great episodes and great moments, but overall it seems to just go through the motions of the comic story with no real goal or message in mind. A thouroughly enjoyable season for the most part, but with some silly decisions. A notably poor choice was using Daryl for Jesus' (fan service) introduction rather than Abraham (narrative) - who only had a few episodes to live and needed to cement an emotional connection to both Rick and the audience.

  1. Season 9 - A good season, and an almost miraculous rebound from the objectively poor storytelling of Seasons seven and eight. A tight season for sure. The only critiques would be the very poor handling of the Negan-Maggie confrontation, which was rushed due to Lauren Cohan's exit. Another retrospective problem with this season was the decision to sideline much of the veteran cast (Eugene, Gabriel, Tara, etc) for new, relatively superfluous characters like Siddiq and Magna.

  2. Season 4 - The first half of the season has a rather dull plot that feels like filler, but the character work shines -- Carol's transformation, Rick's struggle to repress his brutality that leads to him exhaling Carol, etc) The second half: The pace slowed down, but this slow burn was utilized to milk some good character work and return to that haunting Southern mythos that made The Walking Dead so entrancing -- a bunch of normal people, wandering the woods of Georgia is search of respite. The Governor episodes were brilliantly done, and while many fans didn't like focusing on him, it added a lot of depth to his character and provided an interesting contrast to following the protagonists' journey. It helped us see WHY people followed the Governor in the first place. One flaw with this season was the fragmentation... instead of jumping between casts like, say, Game of Thrones, Season 4 opted to focus on a single group for most episodes. This ended up making the story feel particularly slow and disconnected, and for some reason, this style would continue for the next few seasons.

  3. Season 3 - Great season. Some phenomenal character work and complex emotional journeys (Merle-Daryl in particular.) But this season also doubled down on the gritty realism of "no one is safe." Characters with plenty of story left to tell bit the dust cruelly and needlessly, and that's what made this world so immersive and frightening. The show would lose track of this in the Gimple era, when character deaths were calendar-marked for midseason finale's and premieres. But Season 3 really showcased the sort of unexpected realism that the story was capable of. The plot, of course, was fast and engaging, being the first large scale human conflict of the story.

  4. Season 5 - It's universally acclaimed as a tremendous season. It had a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes for a long time for good reason (cursed post-hype critics who go back to lower the rating). I think people tend to forget the confusing filler that was the the hospital arc. I personally tend to believe its non-canon, because it was just so strange and tonally jarring. Besides that, was a great season with an iconic cast of characters.

  5. Season 1 - No one would argue that this season isn't a television triumph.

1.Season 2 - Yeah, that's right. I think Season 2 is by leaps and bounds the highest quality storytelling The Walking Dead has ever undertaken, and I think its a triumph. It's a very slow burn, and it stands out as almost a different show from the rest of the series. Season 2 is a slow, post-apocalyptic slice of life and an in-depth character analysis. It delves deep into character psychology in ways many shows have never been able to accomplish. It relishes in a haunting Southern mythos that makes the farm really feel like its square in the middle of purgatory. In particular, the intense emotional bond between Rick-Shane and the gradual road to their lethal conclusion is one of the most gripping and well written character journeys I've seen in storytelling. It sounds hyperbolic, but I think the brilliance of this story is overlooked. Shane Walsh and Rick Grimes were incredibly complex characters in this season, and the former would never truly die, because the story left a deep mark on Rick. Frankly, all of Rick's future storylines are stems from the root of the Rick-Shane dynamic. Furthermore, the cast was at its most realistic and complex at this time. The characters all felt real and had dynamic relationships. Rewatch Season 2, trust me.

The flaw in Gimples extended TWD universe.

Scott Gimple wants an MCU.

But he's missing the key component to make that work: Starting off small.

The Walking Dead is surely a universe that lends itself into having an extended universe spanning across different mediums. But Gimple got the idea from watching the big team-up movies (IE: Avengers) which only worked because they built it up.

So Gimple took a show that was NEVER INTENDED to even CROSS with TWD - was always intended to stand on its own, and then anally fucked the show by injecting Morgan in there like a heroin addict.

He's trying to make everything cross-contaminate each other. Have all these shows speak to each other. But that's a terrible decision.

Fear season 5 is supposed to include TWD story elements on there, as well as continuing Dwight's story. Because apparently the US only consists of 3 states in Gimple's mind - and people can just run forest run themselves into a companion series, (Which is what Fear was INTENDED to be. [Spin off takes a character from one show and put them in another, companion series is a sister show set in the same universe but rarely - if ever, interacting.]) and it just makes the United States feel so much smaller.

Yeah, I know it's possible to run into people from high school 4 states away, but the chances are unlikely. In an apocalypse, the chances of Morgan and Dwight Who shouldn't know each other are slim to none.

This new show (Still no word if its a companion or a spin-off since websites continue to use the wrong phrases. Calling shit spin-off's when they're not.) is supposed to follow 2 female protagonists as one follows a path of Gimples "All life is precious" philosophy and the other a villain. (Sounds like a remixed version of Erickson's plan for Madison to turn into a villain in Fear.) and who knows, for all, we know this show will heed the same fate Fear did, and they're going to shoehorn a character that doesn't belong in there... in there.

Gimple wants to expand this universe and I'm all for that, but it needs to be done right. Gimple is a great writer, but when he's in charge of the overall plot, and when he has a say in what happens... shit goes down-hill fast.

Gimple wants this "massive" universe to expand, but he keeps aking them cross-contaminate into one another and that's not expanding a universe. That's creating a closed loop.

Look at the MCU. Sure, they all bleed into each other. But not every MCU franchise does. Daredevil, The Punisher (lemme ask you sumthen' Rick!), Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Cloak and Dagger, The Runaways, and Agent Carter are all set in the same universe. (SMALL ENDGAME SPOILER -->) SPOILER and even then, they're all in the MCU but they rarely interact. The movies kinda only slightly sorta acknowledge the TV side, and the TV side only slightly kinda sorta acknowledges the movie. Despite all of it happening in the same universe.

Gimple sees the movies crossover but doesn't understand how much of this universe didn't crossover. He's shoehorning crossovers and shit that just doesn't fit because he wants to expand a universe by making it smaller all at the same time.

There's no way of knowing how this new companion series (Or spin-off. We have no idea.) will go, but chances are - something from Fear or TWD will bleed into it.

Here's how a good universe building chart would look like (The numbers indicating what it bleeds into.)

  • The Walking Dead (1)
  • Fear The Walking Dead (Retcon the fucking fuck outta 4+)
  • Un-named TWD series
  • Rick Grimes Movie (1)
  • Comic Book set in shows universe
  • Novel
  • Another novel
  • un-named TWD movie (2)
  • Un-named TWD movie sequel (2)
  • AMC premier show (2) (Continuing the story of the movie characters)

Leaving a few things to stand on their own, while some interact. But Gimple acts like he wants everything to interact.

He did say that some shows will speak to one another, but not all of them will. So here's to hoping that I'm wrong about all of this.

TL;DR: Gimple wants everything to cross breed and doesn't give anything room to grow.

Also, Look - I shit on Gimple all the time. But he's a great writer. He wrote some fantastic episodes and made some unique choices. He made the hunters far more compelling than the comics. He managed to make me miss seeing the Governor. But when he;'s in charge of the entire franchise and the storyline ahead... He makes some really dumb fucking decisions. He's a great writer... bad showrunner.

[SPOILERS] Arya did not "sneak past" the White Walkers.

Title. Everyone is bitching in this sub "how could Arya sneak past a circle of White Walkers" and "did she jump from a tree?" Etc. Etc... NO! the entire purpose of the library scene was to show us that Aryas foot steps are literally silent. The purpose of Arya sneaking up on Jon in the Godswood of all places was to show us that again, Arya is the quickest and most silent person in the show. She didn't "sneak up" on the NK as in she wasn't tumbling from tree to tree like James Bond, she ran quickly and silently past the Walker generals and jumped straight at the NK. Right before she does this we see a walker notice something run past him but it's too quick for him to react. That is the god damn point, Arya is just super quick and stealthy and she took them by surprise. However the NK, being a badass himself wasn't actually taken by surprise like his generals were, he turned quickly and caught her by the throat and smirked at her. There was a very interesting poetic feeling to why he smirked at her, think earlier in the episode.

Dany tries her best tactic against him in her Dracarys: nope, smirk.jpeg

Jon tries his best tactic against him in 1v1 sword combat: nope, smirk.jpeg

Arya tries her best tactic against him in quickly and stealthily running and jumping out of the shadows at him: nope, smirk.jpegOHWAITSHIT. assuming Arya has no more tricks up her sleeve has doomed everyone who has thought that way. NK being no exception. Arya was the only person to be able to surprise him, and it makes sense.

I really think that's the point guys...

Mine is between 2 that I hate for such different reasons that I can't quite decide...

  • Skyler singing Happy Birthday to Ted (utterly unwatchable, but in concept not really that bad)

[SPOILERS] My name is Kirsten Acuna, and I’m an entertainment correspondent who covers “The Walking Dead” — AMA about the season finale and what to expect next, the comics, or the end of the Telltale game series

Hi TWDFamily! My name’s Kirsten Acuna and I’m an entertainment correspondent at INSIDER and one of my main points of focus is The Walking Dead.

I did an AMA awhile back and I thought it would be fun to do one again now that we’ve completed an entire season with a new showrunner (Angela Kang) saw a huge moment come to life from the comics in the penultimate episode, and have seen whether or not the show can survive without Andrew Lincoln (seems like it’s doing OK!).

A little about me: I started the show during season two at the suggestion of a friend. I was instantly into it and soon after caught up with Robert Kirkman’s comic series in a 2012 binge. I started writing about the show for Business Insider in 2013 while I was also editing. I’ve been fortunate to attend and cover series’ panels at both San Diego Comic-Con and New York Comic Con several years over.

Our TV and movie coverage now lives on our lifestyle site INSIDER.com and I transitioned from editing to writing full time in 2016 and focused more heavily on interviewing the cast and crew.

This season I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with Greg Nicotero, Khary Payton, episode directors Laura Belsey and Millicent Shelton, Matt Lintz (via email), Katelyn Nacon, and showrunner Angela Kang a few times. One of my favorite interviews from this season was getting to talk to Tom Payne about leaving the show.

This past December, I attended my first WSC at the suggestion of a fellow member of TWDFamily many of you probably know. I had a blast and look forward to attending more in the future. Early April, I’ll be heading to a summit for AMC where Angela Kang and Melissa McBride are expected to present on panels.

You can follow allowing with my coverage of “The Walking Dead” on INSIDER’s website here. Feel free to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit, too. If you enjoy this chat, I regularly talk about TWD on Twitter @KirstenAcuna. On Sundays during the season, I live tweet commentary and reactions and share interviews w/ cast/crew breaking down the episode.

Just watched the Deadwood episode "Requiem for a Gleet"

Jesus Christ that was traumatizing. I had to go outside and take some deep breaths afterwards. If I didn't know ahead of time that "Swengin" was gonna survive that scene, then I may not have survived either. My father passed in late January. That episode depicts the horror of sickness so masterfully. Not only in the case of the sick one, but the agony of the ones close to him too. Amazing work from the cast all around. No doubt the scenes they filmed were disturbing enough to induce true uneasiness into their minds, which manifested onscreen and elevated the performances. As hard as it is to watch (and I'd never watch it again)--the best film and television make you feel like you just saw something real. If it feels real, then *you* feel it. It's a masterful example of how this medium can craft scenes--if done right-- that give you perspective into real life. They wavered the line between realism and shock value, but became steady and true at the end....just like Doc.

What a fantastic series so far though. Not sure why I waited so long to finish (been stuck on season 1 for over a year). Just in time for the upcoming movie though!

Edit-The very next line after that scene and they switch to Mr. W. "Are you uncomfortable, girls?

Are you uncomfortable.....quite fitting and surely not a coincidence :)

I'm in awe of Bill Hader's physical acting in Barry

Maybe I never watched him closely enough in SNL or other films, but I never saw Hader as a physical actor. At least not with anything but his facial expressions, which always seemed so rubbery and hilarious. But in Barry, especially in the most recent episode, his physical acting and fight scenes blow me away. So much respect to the work he put into Barry to be the kind of actor whose talent isn't just in how he delivers lines and uses his face to convey emotion (which he does a lot in all his work) but also for bringing a physicality that further makes his character more believable and engaging.

Ruination

I loved FTWD. I watched from s01e01 and it was a fresh take on the zombie apocalypse. People spoke in emotional yet logically sound arguments. People struggled with drug addiction. The natural inclination to hold onto past lives and egos persisted. I sampled the dialogue in Spanish in the dried out sewer tent because it was so beautiful it made me weep. It was full of diverse and storied characters that aren't just gunslinger, nurse, female, child. It feels like they were slotted in like replaceable party members in a videogame. ¿Que hiciste?

[Spoilers] After all this show has taught us, I’m disappointed you all have forgotten its key lessons.

This is my first reddit post, but after seeing the hate that episode 70 is getting (plot armor, night king died too easy, azor ahai), I wanted to throw in a few points I’ve notice, so bare with me.

We have not been paying attention, this show has time and time again told us to expect the unexpected, to plan for every outcome. It’s told us that as much as you’ve believe you’re the hero, or the prince that was promised, or you’re special, you’re not. Fuck fate.

No one is special. Beric was brought back to life some 16 time or so. And all that was so he could save a young woman in some hallways. The nK was supposed to destroy mankind and he was killed by the unexpected. A nobody to him. Fuck fate.

Jon was told he was the prince who was promised, he was brought back to life. He’s the hero of the show who wants to save people, and all he did throughout the episode was fail at that. He couldn’t stop the night king, he couldn’t save his friends. Fuck fate.

Dany is the savior of the realm, the mother of dragons, and she is tossed to the ground to fight in the mud and blood, making her just another person fighting for their lives. It took Jorah by her side to protect her, which is fine because that’s all he’s ever wanted to do, and he succeeded.

The plot armor you guys are complaining about, is just story telling. Each person alive still has a role to play against Cersei or for their own gain.

You expected death for everyone and you didn’t get it. You expected more from the night king and you didn’t get it. You expected an Azor Ahai and you didn’t get it.

I have not known game of thrones to kill off key people in the midst of a battle. It’s always in small scuffles or when you don’t expect there to be any death. Deceit and trickery is the game, and the game is back on. Expect the unexpected.

No one thinks they're the bad guy

Anyone else ever think, "Ya know what, the Survivors (core group) are just as crazy as the Governor's and Negan's groups, just in different ways? I mean, we are lead to believe these people are always right and always making the right calls, but as I rewatch TWD from start to current finish, I notice so many times where Rick, Maggie, Michonne, Daryl, etc. all act particularly crazy, power hungry and even psychotic. Hell, I have always thought Negan's leadership was almost better than Rick's at certain points. I don't know, maybe that quote was the best perspective line in the whole show. "No one ever thinks they're the bad guy..."

[Spoilers] I’d love to see a Black Mirror style TWD spin-off where each episode features different characters in different locations and disturbing scenarios

In my ideal world, this show composed of one-off short stories would...

  • Have a completely different set of writers and directors than the main show has, in order to give it a separate, detached vibe. Preferably darker, showing us things in this world that the main series doesn’t.

  • Jump around with the timeline. One episode could focus on characters near the beginning of the outbreak, and the next might show people 3 years later, then earlier, etc. Doesn’t matter, since each episode is its own thing and it’s non-linear.

Would you want this?

[SPOILERS] The clues were all there, we just refused to see them.

The motivation of the Night King: This was clearly explained in the show. The Night King was created by the CotF to kill human, that's what he was trying to do. He wanted an endless night and to erase all memory of human. That's exactly what he was trying to do. I think we were just expecting some crazy twist to happen, but at least it make sense with what was said in the show. I prefer something simple that make sense with the story, that something crazy that will make no sense when rewatching all the seasons.

Arya killing the Night King: "Green eye, brown eye, blue eye. Eyes you will close forever." This was foreshadow in S3. Her whole story was around the God of Death. And Death is literally the Night King in the story. Also, Bran gave her the dagger in S7. So it was pretty clear that Arya was meant to kill the Night King. Again, I think we just expected some crazy shit like Bran going in the past and fucking around some timelines, which 90% of the viewers would have no idea WTF just happened.

The Army of the Dead dealt in Ep3: They filmed for 50+ nights to created the longest and most promising episode of the serie. They put everything on the table for this episode. There's no way the AotD would have survived this episode. Because if they survived, this mean that we need another bigger battle to defeat them. And with all the casualties, there's no logic way to make the living survive. Also, I don't see how Jon and co could have escaped the battle alive and I don't see the Night King retreating either. So, it had to end here. The AotD won at the Fist of the First Man, at Hardhome and Beyond the Wall, but they were defeated in Winterfell, because everyone decided to fight together. I don't feel like this has been rushed. This battle has been build up for 8 Seasons and it ended with the biggest episode ever produced.

Anyway, just my two cents. I think the plot was simpler that some of the hardcore fans wanted, but at least it make sense with the narrative and the final battle was truly epic.

I’m Kelly Lawler, USA TODAY’s TV critic and “Game of Thrones” expert/obsessive. I’ve been covering the show for years as a recapper, reviewer and reporter and am here to answer all your burning questions about Season 8 and Sunday’s epic episode. AMA!

Hey guys! I’m Kelly Lawler, USA TODAY’s TV critic and co-host of our geek culture podcast, The Mothership. Sometimes I say that the best thing I ever did for my career was read the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series as a teen, and I’m only half joking. I’ve been recapping “Game of Thrones” since Season 5, and have interviewed most of the cast and George R.R. Martin. Right now I’m recapping and reviewing every episode of the final season (I also watch and review other TV shows, but who cares about those right now?) Have questions about the season? Want to know what it’s like to stay up until 1 a.m. writing about “Thrones”? Have great theories about the ending? Let’s chat.

Just noticed in Season 2 Episode 1

So we all know about the foreshadowing of the plane crash with the episode titles in Season 2. However, when rewatching, I noticed something else. When Walt is making calculations about exactly how much money he needs to make, he ends up with 737,000 dollars. Obviously this is an allusion to the 737 plane crash. Everyone knows that. But what I noticed is that during that exact scene, you hear a plane flying overhead. Right as he says “737”. It’s plain as day. Another cool little Easter egg I never noticed.

Potential Plot Hole (spoilers)

Late to the party, just watched got through the entire series for the first time.

In the early episode with the fly in Fring's lab, Walt goes nutso and leaves some duct tape in the rafters of the lab.

Later, when the lab burns down, I thought they showed the ball of tape still there untouched by the fire. Walt addresses other loose ends, but this one is never addressed.

I kept waiting for this to come back to bite Walt, but it never did. Did I miss where this got addressed?

Twitter Parody Account

Made this post last week, but I deleted it and am making this one now.

So I've made a parody FTWD account on Twitter of our boy Troy Otto and I wanted to share it with y'all so y'all can follow it.

I made it because I've seen parody accounts of characters from other media and I though it'd be fun to join in on the action. Also, there weren't any other active Fear parody accounts so I though I'd revive. Hopefully as time goes on, others will make a parody account of the other characters and our characters can interact and stuff.

It's just supposed to be a fun, entertaining thing for TWD and FTWD fans to enjoy. It shouldn't be taken seriously at all, I just like to entertain people.

So the username is @TroyOttoxd, follow and let's have some fun.

Reading the Comics for the First Time...

And holy shit is it miles better than the show. The show is good don't get me wrong (although I kind of stopped watching during season 7), but I feel like the comics just flow better and the storylines make more sense. My biggest issue with the show is that it tends to jump around a bunch instead of focusing on one storyline, but with the comics each volume I've read sticks to one storyline and doesn't jump around as much.

I've only read up to Volume 3 and I'm starting Volume 4 today. I have a lot of comic reading to do!

[SPOILERS] The "Bran is the Lord of Light" theory is all but confirmed this episode, and G.R.R.M. himself gave the big clue last year. The real origin origin of the Dagger.

Hear me out.

In an interview with Time Magazine last year, G.R.R.M. explicitly made sure to bring up Beric Dondarrion.

"he’s not a living human being anymore. His heart isn’t beating, his blood isn’t flowing in his veins, he’s a wight, but a wight animated by fire instead of by ice, now we’re getting back to the whole fire and ice thing"

So Beric is a "fire wight". And thats obviously foreshadowing something. The big question is, if the Night King animates the ice wights, who then animates the fire wights?

Here are the Facts:

  1. Bran is a powerful warg. We know he gets visions of the past, present and future…and can manipulate the past to help save his future self. We don't yet know the extent of this power.

  2. We knew the Night King can reanimate the dead into evil still-dead soldiers. But this episode we learned he can also manipulate snow and ice at will, sending a full blown blizzard. (This is key.)

  3. Followers of the Lord of Light believe that their Lord is always at war with his evil opposite diety. Theres always a dichotomy. Light vs Dark. Good vs Bad. Fire vs Ice. Everything in this world has an antithesis.

  4. The 3 eyed raven seems to be NK's eternal adversary. He intentionally killed the OG 3 eyed raven, and ever since he's been after Bran.

  5. The lord of light supposedly has a "purpose" for everyone. Consequently, everyone supposedly brought back by the lord of light helped Arya defeat the Night King.

  6. Bran gave Arya the dagger, and offered himself as bait. So like the Lord of Light, everything Bran has done recently also ultimately leads to Arya defeating the Night King.

What we can take from this…

  • If the Night King is Lord of Death, Night, and Ice…he should have an equal opposite. That opposite would of course be the Lord of Life, Light, and Fire (ie. The Lord of Light) .

  • The Night King is a physical entity, his opposite should be too. The Lord of Light likely has a physical presence. So who is it? they don't ever explicitly show any other being with NK's level of power (or do they?)

  • If the Night King can reanimate the dead, his "light" opposite should have an equal level of power to bring life. And if NK's reanimated dead fight for evil, then his opposite's reanimated dead would fight for good/the living.

  • George R.R. Martin confirmed this logic, with his mentioning the existence of the "Fire Wight". Beric, Jon, (and maybe the Hound) are one of them. So the above theory that the Lord of Light is the NK's opposite holds water

  • If the NK can manifest snow and ice at will. Then his opposite should be able to manifest fire at will. And maybe...communicate with others through it.

  • Bran and the Lord of Light are working towards the same goal.

  • The 3 Eyed Raven is the NK's ultimate adversary….the force hes always at battle with.

The simplest explanation to all of this ...The 3 Eyed Raven is the Night King's opposite. The NK's opposite is the Lord of Light. Therefore, Bran = the Lord of Light

So how does this play out?

The Dagger Arch

First consider the dagger.

The entire storyline from Season 1 on revolves around the dagger. And the entire dagger story is intrinsically linked to Bran.

We also know the dagger is ancient, as it appears in Sam's book. Its been passed down from generation to generation, as all existing Valerian steel has been. https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/gameofthrones/images/9/97/Valyrian_steel_dagger_game_of_thrones_catspaw_blade_sam.png/revision/latest?cb=20170723084654

We don't actually know for sure who owned the dagger, or where the assassin got it. Littlefinger claims it was his but later denies it. Even if it was Littlefinger's, its never explained where he got it. This is important.

The Theory

It all but obvious at this point, Bran has been manipulating the plotline the entire time. He knew exactly how the battle was going to end. He knew exactly how to kill the Night King, because he set the trap himself. While warging during the battle, he was likely manipulating events to lead to the final conclusion.

Everything he has done has revolved around getting the dagger to Arya and getting her safely to the NK. That plan was set in motion all the way back in Season 1.

Future Bran made sure that dagger was sent to kill his childhood self. He put the key piece in play. He then warged into Summer to kill the assassin.

Farther back than that, the dagger may have belonged to Aerys Targarian (passed down through their family), and Bran messed with him to make sure it got where it needed to go. (Maybe Jaime or Littlefinger picked it up after the Mad King was slain).

Arya's training was also crucial/pre-planned. She would have never been trained without....Bran's assassination attempt being pinned on Tyrion (because of the dagger). And King Robert's Death.

We already know how he could have manipulated the assassination. He could have also been warged into the wild boar that killed King Robert, if it were for the good of the realm.

Melesandre told Arya last episode what Syrio Forel told her before he was killed, "What do we say to the god of death? Not today". Homage to the fact that her training was all destined.

All of the war and death that was sparked because of Bran. He knew it would happened, because he knew how the alternative story line would play out. He sacrificed whoever he had to for the good of the realm. Much like lord varys

All of the "magical Lord of Light moments" that are supposedly the God's work, are actually Bran manipulating the past, resurrecting people and making sure Arya got the knife and made it to kill NK.

  • Thoros getting brought back to life so many times….it wasn't the shitty priest saying a prayer. Both he and Melesandre said he shouldn't have that power. In fact, it was Bran bringing him back to life so he could help Arya during the battle.

  • The hound surviving. Septon Ray told him he thought he was a corpse. He also told him that he pretty much died multiple times while he was recovering, but he kept coming back to life. After he comes back to life, he's fighting for good. Again, hound ended up a key figure in getting Arya to the NK.

  • Jon coming back. No evidence again to suggest Melesandre's prayer did it. She completely gave up, and he didn't come back to life until a while after.

  • The trench lighting on fire…again, it didn't seem to be Melesandre's words that did it. You could see she was getting frustrated/confused when it wasn't working at first. It was actually Bran summoning fire.

  • Lord Varys hearing the voice in the flames after he was cut....which he said lead to him ending up in King's Landing. It was Bran.

We know Bran is the most powerful living being other than the Night King. We know both he and the Lord of Light are working towards the same goal, and both manipulate the storyline.

It makes sense that Bran is the Lord of light, and All past 3 Eyed Ravens were also the Lord of Light.

Where was Bran during the battle? Making shit happen. This would make the Night King's death wayyy less anticlimactic than it was.

Some interesting questions then come up if this all plays out. When the Whites die, their wights they turned die.

If Bran dies, does Jon automatically die too? Now that the Night King is dead, whos the Lord of Light's new opposite to balance out the dichotomy? (Cersei? Danny? perhaps)

Further Evidence

  • Bran's powers are strongest by the Weirwood trees. Aka the "Heart Trees" The trees were worshiped by the First Men (and Children of the forest?) as gods. They're known as "Heart Trees". The lord of light is also known as the "Heart of Fire", with a symbolic heart.

  • The Children of the Forest brought back Benjen as a fire-wielding fire wight. They're obviously the key to the power of both the NK and the Lord of Light. They could have created the 3 eyed raven/LoL the same as they created the NK as a counter balance

  • Bran (or the OG 3 eyed raven) are likely who drove Aerys II Targaryen mad, whispering for him to "Burn them all". He's been fighting the future battle from the past for a long time.

  • In the episode followup commentary, they said they picked Arya to kill the NK because she was the one most easily forgotten about to heighten the surprise. Its hard to believe that was really why they made that decision.

Hey guys, so I’ve tried rewatch BrBa again but lacked the motivation because no one would watch it with me and discuss it.

So I’ve decided to appeal to y’all folks. Does anyone want a rewatch? Starting from 30th April? We could do an episode once a day and just watch till the end. Once we we were we could do a post on that episode and just buzz our inpressions and ideas of the episode. It would be great to get some new insight on this TV show.

Can all interested parties comment on this post?

How many characters have died/turned from scratches?

I've been watching some of the old episodes recently (watching 18 Miles Out as I type this, great episode) and I've just watched the bit where Rick and Shane are discussing how two of the police officers turned since they were not bit. It dawned on me that the franchise has always said that a scratch has the same effect on you as a bite which begs the question... how many characters have died/turned from scratches?

The only character I can think of is Big Tiny. Even then, it wasn't the scratch that killed him but actually Tomas

Why the hell am i just noticing it now? :D Breaking bad Saul's first scene

The creators and the writers seem to have invested a lot in bcs from that first Saul appearance in breaking bad.. Lets just quote the line:

" You are now both officially represented by Saul Goodman and Associates. Your secrets are safe with me under the threat of disbarment" Jimmy not being a lawyer for a while paid off already..Ive honestly never seen anybody pointing at this specific line

Am wondering how the hell didnt i notice that earlier :D So far in BCS we've had so many crossovers with this scene. I will do a quick summarization.. Excuse me if i've missed some:

Lalo, Ignacio- Nacho..... When Saul asks Walt and Jessie to put money in his pocket - we had this in BCS with Kim and Jimmy , Saul mentioned something about the cartell.. which seems like starts unravelling and we're likely to see what will happen in bcs in the following season/seasons

BCS has a lot invested in that scene which seems like its likely to be the piece to edning bcs..Next season we're definitely seeing more cartell drama. Be prepared..

DEA's coming as well.. And i didnt say this.. Its Gus Fring's statement in season 4 after Hector's collapse

Why exactly did Jesse start working for Gus and Mike?

Always been confused about this kind of, so basically Mike comes into the house and has some head tied up and tells Jesse he stole all his money, Jesse acts careless and that's when Mike goes to Gus and said Jesse is becoming a concern because he is so careless. Then, Jesse goes out doing errands with Mike. Why does Jesse start having Jesse work for him? At first I thought it was to test his loyalty to see if he actually was being careless, then I thought it was because Gus wanted him clean. But both of these reasons don't really make sense because A, why does it matter if Jesse is loyal to Gus? And B, since when does Gus give a flying fuck if Jesse is clean? Yeah I know he never wanted him cooking in the first place because he's an addict, but it seemed like Gus settled and allowed it.

Then, I realized oh it's because he's going to bring Jesse to Mexico and show the cartel how to cook the blue stuff. But even then, why all of a sudden does Gus think Jesse is good enough to do this?

So why exactly is Gus having Jesse working for him and why exactly is he all of a sudden associating himself with Jesse?

I Think Better Call Saul needs to overlap Breaking Bad

In the Breaking Bad episode "Better Call Saul" when Walt & Jesse kidnap Saul he thinks that it's the cartel and blames whatever he did on Nacho, that means whatever happens in Better Call Saul it's still unresolved by the time Breaking Bad starts, Also I cannot remember the cartel stuff ever coming up again in Breaking Bad from Saul's perspective (I haven't watched BrBa since BCS started so maybe it was and I forgot)

Since Breaking Bad was from Walt and Jesse anything that Saul did that was unrelated to the meth business didn't need to be shown, so if Saul's cartel issue is to be resolved on BCS it needs to take place after the introduction of Saul on Breaking Bad

Disclaimer: Suicide and mental illness are touchy subjects I’m all too familiar with to be able to say good job to in a tv show; it’s a very real and serious issue.

HOWEVER: I couldn’t stand Chuck at all during the show. He took Jimmy for granted, looked down on him constantly, always hoped he would fuck up under the guise of “I’m the philosophy fairy and you need to learn your lesson young man” waves wand and curtsy, he was always so damn full of himself even to the point to where his ego kept him from realizing his condition was due to a mental disorder and stubbornly kept himself from being diagnosed properly and seeking the right medical attention. He treated Ernie like a fucking dog when he was just doing his job, all the while Chuck would strut around like a princess because insert pompous educated monologue. I can’t begin to tell you how good it felt to see him fall over and bust his head when he was confronting the employee at the copy station after he secretly recorded Jimmy as he was faking having a mental fucking breakdown. The only thing better than having him dead would have been seeing a pre BrBa Jesse Get pissed off by him and beat the ever living shit out of that egotistical fat frog.

My Top 5 Relationships In The Walking Dead. (Plus a Rant About ScreenRant)

***Spoiler Alert***

While the show is mostly about characters & how they struggle to survive during the apocalypse it also has some of the greatest relationships of any show or movie I have ever seen, these are my favorite of the shows run so far. (Side note: These are legit couples on the show not fan-fiction)

Aaron & Eric

While their screen time together was brief, they did make an effective couple, mostly on Daryl who seemed to bond with the two when he first entered Alexandria he didn't want any part of it & they talk Daryl out of leaving & giving him a purpose in the community, they parted ways on a very dark note, where Aaron accidentally shot Eric fatally wounding him, Eric bled out at the tree & died. (There are actually fans who believe he didn't die, but obviously he did as he came back as a walker & Aaron wanted to put him down but someone stopped him for some reason?)

#4 Sasha & Bob

While I wasn't a fan of Sasha I was a huge fan of Bob, he brought an unwavering hope & was instantly likable & I could relate to him on a personal level, I won't get into that here, The pair had a blossoming relationship & while as I said I was not a fan of Sasha, Bob made her more tolerable, even in his last moments he remained hopeful & we lost a great character when Bob departed the show.

#3 Carol & Ezekiel

Now this is why I am posting this, According to ScreenRant a lot of fans HATE these two as a couple, I saw something when Carol was first introduced to Ezekiel, She saw through his act, He liked that & was actually himself with Carol, so when they were shown to be a couple in the season 9 premier I wasn't surprised but apparently the brain trust at SR were. What do you guys think of these two as a couple? Are ScreenRant talking crap or am I missing something?

#2 Rick & Michonne

My original "Ship" before I even knew what it meant I wanted these 2 together, from the moment their eyes locked way back at the prison in season 3 I felt they had something, there bond growing throughout season 3, the way he checked Michonne out after apologizing for thinking about trading her to The Governor. I was glued to the screen anytime they were on the screen together, one of my favorite moments was her & Carl bonding on the train track as Rick smiled at the pair as he saw she made Carl happy & made Rick a better character, I remember when they first got to the gates of Alexandria & Rick looked unsure of what to do next, until Michonne put her hand on his, reassuring him it would be okay, Season 6 he puts his hand on hers & they look into each others eyes & before we knew it Richonne was born.

Glenn & Maggie

Who else could it be? These two were the original couple to root for on the show. (Fuck off Lori) I am still a bit sore about this as its been two years since we lost Glenn as he is my favorite character in the show to this day & the relationship between the two was one bright part of an overly bleak show.

[Spoilers] One of the best acting and character arcs in any show goes to..

Can we get a huge round of applause to Alfie Allen for his incredible acting and character arc. Hands down one of the best character performances in any show I've watched over the years. Every single moment of loving Theon, to hating him, to feeling sorry for Reek, to rooting for him again, to loving him and cheering for him in his final moments. There is nothing more to ask for in an actor and character arc. That was perfect!

Tuned out of the show awhile back when I read they won't explore the origins of the virus.

Is this still the case these days? I don't even know what season I stopped watching. It was the one where Glenn died an extremely gruesome death, which kind of put me off. It just was so uneventful afterward and overall had too much gore at that point for my liking. The zombies were hardly a threat either. There was some other town with a lion too. It felt like the show was repeating itself.

Around that time I read that the show is never going to explore the virus/cure/origins of it. Same with Fear the Walking Dead so I also tuned out of after the first season. I get it, Walking Dead was never meant to focus on that, its about the people not the zombies, but what is the end goal of it all? What was the point of Fear the Walking Dead too if it ended up being the same plots just on the west coast (from where I left off)? I thought the first episode was so cool and really brought back the tension....and then that was it.

The Walking Dead SURVIVOR (Season Three, Round One)

Welcome back to The Walking Dead: Survivor!

The twelfth and final round of Season Two has passed! With 65.22%, or 15, of the 23 total votes, Beside the Dying Fire finally ran out of shotgun shells and was devoured by the oncoming herd, making it the final episode of Season Two to be eliminated. Congratulations to Better Angels for being the last episode standing!

Now, with Season 2 out of the way, it's time to start on Season 3, an excellent year for the show in my personal opinion.

Discuss your thoughts: what episode should win? What episode should lose? What episode did you forget even existed? Please remember to follow both the sub rules and basic Reddiquette.

In an effort to prevent auto-removal, I will post details and the link to the poll in the comment section. Thanks for playing, and enjoy!

[Mod Raven] We just hit Two Million Subscribers! What are your favourite Thrones-related memories?

Just over 18 months ago we reached One Million Subscribers. Today, on the day of release of the third episode of the final season of Game of Thrones, we've hit Two Million Subscribers.

Since 2010, the aim has been to create a place where people could come and share their ideas, discuss shocking deaths (we're talking about you, Ned) and showcase their craft. Back in the days when people wondered whether we'd get to the Red Wedding, none of us were imagining anything close to this. This community is now two million strong, and that's incredible - all we're missing is some elephants.

Thank you to all of you for making this community what it is.

And to mark the milestone, we want to ask you a question: What is your favourite Game of Thrones-related memory?

It can be a scene on the show, an actor you met, seeing a family member's reaction... anything like that. Community is what has made this show so special for so many of us, and it's these memories that will last.

Jesse is not a good person

I don’t think this was a flaw in writing because it was probably intentional, but I always found it hypocritical and ridiculous Jesse (at least for most of the series) was perfectly fine with cooking thousands of pounds of crystal meth and ruining countless lives yet once kids are ever involved he loses his shit. What he does causes kids to be raised in broken homes (like what we saw in peekaboo). It causes the deaths of innocent people yet once Jesse has to kill gale he can’t live with himself. Jesse knows the destruction of what he does and he chooses to ignore it, that doesn’t make it any less evil. So what makes Jesse a good person and walt an evil scumbag? I’m not saying walt wasn’t evil or better than Jesse but they both cook crystal meth. Walt just does what he has to do and acknowledges the reality of his profession while Jesse ignores it. Walt was actually an upstanding citizen that contributed to society before the show. Jesse was always a degenerate that never made any contribution to society. Again I’m not trying to justify Walt I just don’t think Jesse is that much morally superior as people act like he is.

Limitless was one of the greatest Comedy/Drama’s to ever air and it shouldn’t of been cancelled.

I didn’t mind the movie, I thought it was pretty good but nothing special. The concept was nothing too original, but the way they did it was nice. But the TV show was something else, the concept, the characters, the connection to the film, to the connection to the idea of how your life isn’t your own. It’s ingenious. The main character Brian Finch is extremely relatable, he’s a screw up; but a believable screw up and his only goal is to help his family and make sure they can see him in a different light. When Brian gets access to NZT, which makes you the smartest human possible, the first thing he does is help other. Brian encompasses the best person you can be, if you were the smartest person how many people could you aid? His counterpart Rebecca Harris was well written as well, she’s smart, resourceful and yet; caring. No matter how often Brian messes up, she’s there to aid him. The comedy aspect of the show is extremely well written, encompassing witty humour, tasteful jokes and blatant parodies to make this show stand out. It’s a not that original concept panned out into something great. Brian is funny, and you truly feel for him when he’s in pain trying to help others. The shows Antagonist Sands is perfectly, he’s brutal, scary and unmoved by emotion or plea. The overarching theme of Sands being in control of Brian’s life is enticing to watch and makes you enthralled in wanting to know exactly how far Sands will push Brian to go. The show has so many incredible episodes, pushing the boundaries of what a crime drama could be. With more serious shows like Blue Bloods or Chicago PD coming into existence, this truly is a cut above the rest bringing fresh ideas to the table. The show was unfortunately cancelled, and I feel if you haven’t already; then you should 100% watch the show. You will love it! I believe it’s on Netflix; it is here in Canada and I’m not certain if it’s on in the US. Otherwise, it’s only one season I’m sure that it’s cheap to purchase.

Sure some went overboard with the hate and even started insulting the actress (Wtf) but I think she is still a pretty unlikable hypocritical character and I don't get why it seems like people get mad as hell if you dare to say anything against here these days. Be it here or on r/television etc. and come up with the same old muh sexism argument.

I am currently starting to re-watch the show after about 5 years when I last watched it through. The Poker Scene in S1E6 is powerful.

It is just so beautiful how it describes the current state of their "work relation" perfectly.

Hank throws away an Ace King hand (aka the direct tie between Walter and the meth cooking sight by arresting Hugo) while Walt goes all in with a Handful of Nothin' (aka going all in with his meth business while he was nearly busted).

This show is great.
