Why exactly did Jesse start working for Gus and Mike?

Always been confused about this kind of, so basically Mike comes into the house and has some head tied up and tells Jesse he stole all his money, Jesse acts careless and that's when Mike goes to Gus and said Jesse is becoming a concern because he is so careless. Then, Jesse goes out doing errands with Mike. Why does Jesse start having Jesse work for him? At first I thought it was to test his loyalty to see if he actually was being careless, then I thought it was because Gus wanted him clean. But both of these reasons don't really make sense because A, why does it matter if Jesse is loyal to Gus? And B, since when does Gus give a flying fuck if Jesse is clean? Yeah I know he never wanted him cooking in the first place because he's an addict, but it seemed like Gus settled and allowed it.

Then, I realized oh it's because he's going to bring Jesse to Mexico and show the cartel how to cook the blue stuff. But even then, why all of a sudden does Gus think Jesse is good enough to do this?

So why exactly is Gus having Jesse working for him and why exactly is he all of a sudden associating himself with Jesse?
