Fear

What FTWD is missing the most and what really destroys the series is the lack of Fear. The show used to explore what people fear and how fear affects people. That is what made it great. All the characters were connected to this idea of fear.

In season 1, the soldiers feared for the families and became corrupt. Daniel feared for his family but never feared anyone. He inspired fear and knew how to harness it. I love when he says something along the lines of “Men do things not because of evil, they do evil because of fear.” Or “In my time, I’ve known men who inspire fear. Do you know what they have in common? They never say how frightened they are.”

We saw Nick being reckless with the lack of fear and Strand being selfish because of his fear. Troy doesn’t fear anything which causes him to do immoral acts until Nick shows him something new. Troy expresses his gratitude for learning what fear feels like. I love the exploration of fear. We see how Madison becomes more ruthless out of the fear of possibly losing her kids after she witnesses Daniel losing his daughter.

Unfortunately, all this amazing storytelling was cut short before we got to see how it would play out.
