This is a rant, and I am sorry.
I watched S1E1 of Fear when it first aired...
And I LOVED IT
I couldn't get over the shows darker tone, and vicious nature. However I never got to continue the series as I didn't have cable. I only started watching live when Season 4 aired
HOWEVER
I recently rewatched all of Fear TWD with my mother. We watched the first 3 seasons along with the first half of S4 twice, and I actually grew an attachment with the show, and it's characters. That being said; I no longer compared Fear to TWD unless it was to praise Fear for it's realism(and balls). But after our second run with the old Fear; we forced ourselves to watch S4B and Season 5. We thought that it might be better during our second viewing(as we never touched those episodes after it aired).
Of course we were wrong, but that's not what I wanna talk about. I wanna talk about how disrespectful the old Fear characters and fans were treated during that transition into Season 4.
After watching "Sleigh Ride" (the Season 3 finale) I felt a sense of closure. Fear was ruthless, and having the season end so open to interpretation did it well. The last thing we saw was Madison rise out of the flowing water as the people got to drink. It was pretty symbolic.
Then season 4 starts with "What's Your Story". At this point I'm completely attached to our Fear characters enough to forget TWD. So watching Morgan run around the whole episode felt like a punch in the face. The episode wasn't bad, but it wasn't Fear. It made me realize how little Scott Gimple cared about the show and it's fans. Imagine if TWD wasn't already successful, and you just had this random ass character run into a show that they do NOT belong in.
In a show called FEAR with it's title screaming bloody murder in the old intro. A show led by questionably selfish anti hero's who will kill anyone who gets in their way. A show that basically ran as the Anti Walking Dead as it favored action over speeches about action. Who the hell thought that this show needed Morgan. Not just as a side character, but as a lead. It's disrespect all the way.
After this episode full of unfamiliar faces(albeit amazing characters), we finally get to see OUR people......for like 5 seconds. Except...no Madison. Two episodes later we lose the FIRST face we ever saw on the show(in a very disrespectful way too). Why have him survive his "suicide note" on the damb just so he can get shot by a stupid girl. UGHHH. Then the show spends the next 5 episodes bating the old fans with the question of "where's Madison". Just to reveal that she died......and not show a body.
If that isn't disrespect then idk what is.
Then we spend the rest of the season chasing this crusty garbage lady who......is killing people.......for helping people....ok? and instead of killing her Morgan (OF COURSE) forces himself and his group to help her? (Remember when the conflict dealt with an actual conflict!? Like the value of water sources and Native American land ownership)
WTF HAPPENED!?
The fans gave their thoughts on this garbage, and ofc they create MORE GARBAGE
Season 5 deals with them crashing planes and rebuilding said plane while they vlog about it. Ide want to talk about it bc it was so ridiculous.
I only bring it up because of the disrespect the show gave the og fans yet again. Not only did they turn Luciana into a punching bag, make Alisha paint trees and fear walkers, and push Strand to the sidelines. But instead of fixing their garbage show; they litter the fifth season with hints that Madison may be "alive". Bating the fans YET AGAIN! Posting pics of her on Twitter. Quoting her old lines in recent episodes. Even the way the trees were painted. It just shows how little they value their fans and their show.
Scott Gimple and whoever the hell else allowed this to happen need to learn a lesson, or at least fix the show or something. Yeah Season Five's last 2 minutes was the most fear I felt in years while watching this show, but that means nothing. Especially since all this show does nowadays is wait for the last episode to move their plot along.
Again, this was kind of a rant, and I'm sorry you had to hear this. But it's true. They do not respect any of us.
