A Theory about Glenn

So, one of the ways I've been passing quarantine is by re-watching TWD (I know a shocker for a member of this board, right?).

Anyway, last night I hit the big one, S7-Ep1 "The Day Will Come When You Won't Be", the Deaths of Abe and, more importantly for this topic, Glenn.

We all know the scene, Negan hits Glenn so hard, the top of his skull caves in on itself and his left eye pops out. Yet in this scene we're supposed to believe that Glenn has enough functions left to turn to Maggie and say the line "Maggie, I'll find you", this always took me as an odd choice for him to say, especially as in the comics he just says "Maggie", so why add "I'll find you" instead of something more along the lines of "I love you" if they're gonna give him a final line to direct at her?

This got me thinking, especially after watching them all much closer together, why would Glenn specifically say "I'll find you", and I think I've come up with an answer.

It's quite simple, Glenn is not there, he is not in that moment. His brain is so messed up by the shock of the hit, along with the pain and loss of blood that he's reliving the moments of his life that he believed to be the most terrifying, the times where he is separated from Maggie.

This scenario happens a fair few times in the show but there are at least 3 major occurrences that I believe would be the ones he's seeing. S4-B after The Governor destroys the prison, S6-A after Glenn escapes from under the Dumpster and returns with Enid to find Alexandria's walls collapsing due to the walker herd and Maggie stuck inside, and S6-B when Glenn, Daryl, Michonne and Rosita are captured by Dwight and lead to the Saviors lineup.

The thing that has always kept Glenn going through his most difficult times was his love for Maggie and his determination to reunite with her, and that I believe is why he says "Maggie, I'll find you". It's a phrase that, even if he doesn't say it out loud, has probably gone through his head dozens of times and gives him the strength to move forward, or in this case, move on.
