Hello! The fourth season of Attack on Titan is scheduled to be released later today. There's been a lot of confusion, rumours, and questions circulating about it, so I thought I'd make a thread to collect what we know about the airing and broadcast, plus act as a reminder for anyone who wasn't aware it was coming out!
Thanks to the mods of /r/ShingekiNoKyojin for collecting much of this information - I have created this post mainly based on their FAQ.
What We Know:
-
The raw episode premieres Monday December 7th 2020 at 00:10 AM in Japan on NHK channel. That's just after midnight in Japan. Thanks to timezones, this means most parts of the world actually get the episode on the 6th. Countdown to the Japanese release.
-
Episodes will air weekly every Monday in Japan at 00:10 AM. Episode 2 will air one week from now, and so on and so forth.
-
The official English subtitles are slated for release on Crunchyroll on 12:45 PM PST today. That's roughly 5 hours after the initial Japanese release. **Countdown to the official release of English subtitles. Different streaming services may release at different times.
-
Funimation has announced they will make an English dub, but no schedule has yet been given for the release of the dub. For Seasons 2 and 3, the dubbed episodes came out on average a few weeks after the initial airing. We don't know if this season will be similar or if it will be different yet. Still waiting on more news.
-
This season is being animated by Studio MAPPA, unlike previous seasons which were animated by Studio WIT. It seems to be in good hands though and several of the staff are the same as before, including the voice actors. You will notice some changes in the animation style such as an increase in use of CGI, but I'd recommend not panicking or anything until you've seen the final product. Let's keep an open mind.

This season was advertised as "The Final Season".

Leaks and Rumours:
There are still many things that we don't have official confirmation for yet, but there have been some indications from secondary sources and leakers who have been fairly reliable in the past. Keep in mind that these things could still be subject to change and have not been officially confirmed yet.
How long will season be?
- At this moment no number of episodes has been announced for the finale Season. Some well informerd persons announced that the season will be 16 episodes long without any mid-season break, but this is not official information.
How many chapters will be adapted in The Final Season?
-
This is not fully known yet. As of the Season 3 finale, the first 90 chapters have been adapted. The manga is still ongoing and the latest chapter was 135, and it is anticipated to end within a few more chapters. Based on the trailer, the names of the first two episodes, and the leaked episode count, it seems that they will be adapting around 2 chapters per episode and will likely cover around 32 chapters and reach around Chapter 122. 2 chapters per episode is slightly faster than the series average, but is still a fair pace, not too rushed. Once again, this is not official information.
-
With this many episodes and this pacing, this season would not cover the entire manga. Therefore it is possible there will be a Season 4 Part 2 (like with Season 3), or some other type of continuation, such as anime movies. This is just speculation and we have no idea so far. Based on interviews, it seems that there is determination to adapt the entire story eventually.
