The Walking Dead has some of the best makeup and practical effects I have ever seen in a cable television show, so it genuinely surprises me that the show's visual effects have been so consistently poor.
From the CDC explosion in Season 1 to that deer in Season 7, the show's digital effects have ranged from mediocre to awful. Even the iconic shot of Rick riding into Atlanta looks dated. The CGI blood is also pretty bad, but that seems to have improved somewhat over the series' lifespan.
The only digital effects in the show that are actually decent are the hordes and Shiva. Nothing special, but not bad.
I'm just wondering how a show with such phenomenal makeup design and practical effects seemed to have skimped so much on the digital effects department.
