[ Season 2] Shane saves the group from a group of people who tried to attack the farm. Who will become the leader of the group?

It was no secret that the group at the time were changing their perception of Shane due to his increasing darkness and his actions. While he had the right idea, no one else in the group were ready to adapt to his mindset yet.

Dealing with the walkers in the barn and strongly advocating the death of Randall, a young man who may or may not have been a dangerous threat were two big reasons for them starting to turn against Shane.

But what if his increasing brutality was a response to an attack ?

But what if the farm came to be attacked? Say after the barn , and instead of Randall, there was a small group of horrible people looking to just kill and take the resources at the farm. (3-4 people, a combination of Claimer/Termite like people). Shane is out taking a walk. Rick tries to reason with them, but by doing so, one of Hershel's people dies. But here comes Shane who single-handily takes out this threat.

Now, Shane's views hold a lot more water now. He could tell Rick "I just saved the group , but you just wanted to talk to them, and you got someone killed!" And what is Rick going to say to refute that?

Would the group have turned against Shane in this scenario?

It's one thing to want to kill Randall, but if they saw Shane take out this small group of horrendous people , they might support him more , and his philosophy of having to fight if you want to survive. Could they have supported him more to be the leader instead of Rick?

What are your thoughts?
