Don’t know if this was posted before but I was rewatching the last episode, in particular the scene where Negan is about to iron the doctor’s face, which you can rewatch here.
While Dwight is heating up the iron, he is staring into the fire, and he seems to be concentrating, maybe trying to convince himself either to not look at the doctor (so he wouldn’t give anything away) or to not feel guilty for framing the doctor.
Negan then offers that the doctor confess “instead” of getting his face ironed (we know how well that turned out) and when the doctor does, Dwight’s facial expression changes. He raises his eyes and they kinda race from side to side, as if he’s panicking for a moment. He seems scared, nervous, caught off guard, like the doctor confessing and Negan appearing to give him an excuse/a way out wasn’t part of his plan. And it seems like he thinks that Negan will spare the doctor since he confessed. Even the savior (“Barcode”) lets go of Eugene’s face (she was forcing him to look), indicating that even she thinks the worst is over.
And that’s when it occurred to me: what do you think Dwight’s plan was regarding the doctor? Do you think he knew for a fact that Negan was going to kill him? Or he thought that Negan was just going to iron the doctor’s face?
And if he thought that Negan was just going to iron the doctor’s face, why did his expression change? And what next? The doctor would despise/blame Dwight and would just become a problem for Dwight in the future. Did Dwight plan to kill him later so he wouldn’t be a problem? But wouldn’t that create unnecessary suspicion (who killed the doctor? kind of thing)?
Either way, of course, Negan did Dwight a huge favor by killing the doctor.
So, any thoughts as to Dwight’s original plan regarding the doctor?
