I'd be kinda surprised if I was the first one to believe that Morgan would've been far better suited for what happened to Carl in S8, that was pretty out of the blue(and super shitty of AMC). If they stuck Morgan in his place then I think it would've meant more if it was Rick deciding to spare Negan in memory of the first guy who saved his life at the start of the series. And let's not forget that it was Morgan who constructed the jail cell that Negan ends up in, which seems like a pretty big symbolic gesture narratively speaking. Plus had they had Morgan greet Negan at the gates of Alexandria in "How It's Gotta Be", where Morgan asks Negan to kill him instead of anyone else, that could've easily paralleled when Morgan told Rick to do the same thing to him when he was in his "Clear" phase, a small detail but it would've been neato. Instead they completely undo his arc come the last two seasons of the All Out War storyline just so they could make him go through even more silly shit in FearTWD, which I haven't watched since the end of S3 because it started to bore me with how often it killed its main characters, but I've read bits & pieces. That show kinda just sounds like it's retreading old ground to a painful extent. Anyway I'm sure there're more reasons folks can share for why killing off Carl & sending Morgan off to FTWD was bloody stupid, these were just what I could think up, I haven't watched the later seasons in a while but I'm slowly rewatching the old stuff to catch up to S11.
