Ok, JUST finished the comic literally 30 minutes ago (been reading since around 2011), so I'm a little scatterbrained and a little emotional and a BIT ANGRY, but I'm gonna try and leave all that out there and focus just on Hershel after the time skip
Can't stand the dude's character overall (another fuckin SEBASTIAN TYPE ugh), but I actually have to say I AGREE with him in regards to his opinions on the zombies and the stark reminder they are to the world. Do I think Hershel truly cares about the message or morals? Um, no. He seems like he wants attention and a bit of money, but I still think his point stands:
Despite the fucked up world many endured during the """"trials"""", it was the zombies themselves that reminded everyone what living was; what being HUMAN was. Carl wants a soft cushy world for his daughter, but the hypocrisy of it all is that the intensity of his love for Andrea is heavily influenced by the horrid world of his youth. While I don't think he or any other civilized person is wrong to want a safe existence for their family, I don't think the removal of roamers from people's conscience is particularly beneficial either.
So long as the virus persists, there will ALWAYS be the risk of another heavy outbreak and the deterioration of the society they've built. I don't necessarily think Hershel's "circus tent" presentation of them is the best way to go about it, but he's 100% right that people need a constant reminder of the risks and what's at stake if they become too complacent and ignorant within this current society.
Also, Sophia and Carl? Realllly? Come on man.
