I agree the show's writing went south when D&D ran out of source material to adapt and that's not entirely their fault. BUT people kinda forget what D&D did from seasons 1 to 4, the peak of GoT. I haven't read the books yet so I can't tell if the first 4/5 seasons gave the books justice and I'm not entirely sure if the two of them are the only writers of the show.
From what I've read online, the majority of ASOIAF readers claimed they did a pretty good job adapting the books. Some went far as to say some characters i.e the Tyrells were handled much better in the shows than the books. For the first half of GoT's seasons they proved they can write great adaptations.
That's why I believe they should get more writing gigs for a chance of redemption. By "writing gigs" I mean writing book-to-tv adaptations, not originals. I am well-aware that's not a good decision on a business perspective but c'mon it's not like they're the only writers who messed up a show.
