Okay here is my theory. Please be open-minded because people really DO NOT like this theory lol :) Basically I think the Waif really did kill Arya and is impersonating her all throughout S7 and 8. But then how did the Waif's face end up in the Hall of Faces, you ask? Well, they're called the FACELESS Men, so obviously the Waif cut her own face off (literally John Travolta and Nicolas Cage style lol. I just watched that movie for the first time a few months ago) and is now wearing Arya's. Which is why Jaqen says she is now "No One', because the Waif gave up her face.
They never explicitly confirm it imo because the storyline in the books will end up crossing paths with Lady Stoneheart, who they left out of the show & wanted to avoid spoiling her plot. The reason I think this is because they substituted Beric Dondarrion's 'sacrifice' for Arya (like his death pose in the Long Night is literally a 'crucifixion') in place of Lady Stoneheart's, who I think will sacrifice her life for her daughter's (who will actually be the Waif impersonating her daughter). Not during the Long Night though, probably sometime during an encounter in the Riverlands (I can't predict the full circumstances in the books).
I think it will happen in the books for these reasons: 1. 'Fake Arya' (Jeyne Poole) is also foreshadowing for the real Arya Stark's identity being impersonated
It's funny because in S7, one of the guards tells Arya "Arya Stark is dead. You're the one impersonating her sister". Also Michele Clapton (GOT costume designer) said that D&D told her during the making of Season 8 that "Arya isn't really a Stark anymore". Plus Bryan Cogman (GOT writer) makes a veerrry small, suspicious joke that Arya is not the same person anymore in this interview https://youtu.be/FyHHg-V6FVk?t=1601
Also the show leaves out that Arya is a warg, so they couldn't show that when Arya died her soul went into Nymeria (which is too what I think will happen in the book). Which is why Nymeria stopped herself from attacking the Waif... because Nymeria IS Arya, and she got sad when she heard the Waif say her name and said that she's going home, something the real Arya will never be able to do.
And Arya WILL NOT kill the Freys in the book, that only happened in the show because again they didn't adapt Lady Stoneheart and they needed someone to off the Freys.
I mean, even think about show Arya's reunions with her family. Arya's reunions with her family are THE ONLY ONES where the Stark theme NEVER plays. It even plays during Bran's reunions with Sansa and Jon, and most famously Sansa and Jon's, but never for any of Arya's. There's too many details for it not to be true (that's not even the last of the hints I've found!)... imo.
