It's really hard to point out flaws here. 2 seasons, eight 20-minute episodes and not a minute wasted. A show with a very small cast of 2 main leads and few supporting characters. The premiere introduces the characters to us and in the second episode things are off and running. Each episode goes by like a breeze and the momentum is maintained till the very last shot of season 1.
The two seasons are fairly different from each other and the show is all the good for it since both accomplish different tasks. Season 2 is slower in pace but it allows us to see the characters up close. Who they are, what they want, what they need. Not to say that season 2 has no plot. It actually has an equally suspenseful sub-plot.
The show has a very unique style and tone. You could call it a black comedy or a romantic dramedy. There is great humor mixed in with a story which often gets dark and serious. There is also some excellent music to support the tone and story.
The heart of show are the 2 main characters. They will come across as unlikable at the start but bear with them. You can't help but fall in love with both Alyssa and James. I have never been a shipper but weirdly really wanted both of the characters to get together throughout the story.
A special mention to the relationship shown between James and his father. Shows today hardly show the beauty of parent-child relationship. Here, it seems weird but gets the point across.
TEOTFW is an excellent show and I give it a 9/10.
