People who are quick to call Troy a villain aren't looking into the deeper layers of his character. I actually have sympathy for Troy. He had mom issues, dad issues... he's probably never been loved... and then Madison and Co. roll in, murder his dad and invite the Native Americans, who killed his militia, usurped everything, and tossed his ass out. From Troy's perspective, who looks like the villain? Even his brother ultimately treated him like he was garbage to be tossed out.
And yeah... Troy's killed people, but who hasn't? Walker used anthrax to kill many innocent people as well.
I'm not making excuses for Troy. Yeah, he's done some bad shit, but he's more antihero than outright villain to me. He's a volatile guy who desperately needs guidance, which he was kind of getting from Madison before she turned her back on him. I see potential in him. He's fixable. He just needs a reason to care.
Anyway, from a writer's perspective, he really fascinates me as a character. He makes other characters more interesting just by being around them. I hope he doesn't die in some half-ass redemption arc, which is kind of what I'm predicting at this point.
