[SPOILERS] Quick thoughts after finishing the series

I watched S1 to S8 in the last 4 days, had nothing to do during the lockdown.

S1 to S6 included was literally p e r f e c t, I cannot name a single thing that bugged me out or that I disliked. I liked the bad people, I liked the good people, the scenario, everything.

While watching S7 I thought it was good overall but actually the worst out of the 7 seasons I watched so far.

Then I watched S8... I have no words, how can the 6 first seasons be so well written, then ruined like that. It really takes intelligence to write something this good, how can it be the same man that wrote S7 and 8 I'm out of words.

My main issues are how the White Walkers, the big problematic built up since the beginning, the Great War, be resolved in a single episode... A single pathetic battle at Winterfell. How did it end ? Arya coming out of nowhere through the thousands enemies, one shotting the Night King and winning the Great War. Reality can be disappointing but this is a show, make the damn thing interesting...

And then Daenerys... I liked her character development in the beginning, it was really good, from innocence to slowly growing fiercer and fiercer, it made sense. But why does the character get so stupid as it goes on I don't get, and her entitlement to the throne and her ending insanity seems so far fetched, we don't see where it comes from really. To me her character is the main reason the ending was this bad.

Then comes Jon Snow... They basically ruined the two most important characters. In such a short span of time he became crazy in love with some girl he doesn't know anything about. Again, in the real world it happens, but this is a show, make it meaningful...

And we don't get why he lose all sense of reality in the end. Daenerys burned alive thousands of children and innocents, and was planning on genociding the whole 7 kingdoms, and he still wonders if she was right or wrong doing it ? Even after killing her ? He really looked pathetic, what a way to ruin such a character..

If you ever recommend this series to someone, tell him to stop at S7. I would be more happy having never watched S8 even if I'd die of curiosity, than die of disappointment.

Theory/Question about the Governor

I was just rewatching TWD Season 3, and I just came across the episode where Rick and The Governor have a sit-down. The Governor offers Rick a safe stay near Woodbury at the Prison so long as Michonne is handed over. My question is: if Rick had handed her over—does anyone think he would have kept his word and left them alone? Would he have captured Michonne, tortured her, and then attacked the prison? Or would he have kept his word, keeping tabs on the prison with spies, and we would have had no Terminus, Alexandria, or Negan?

For that matter I also have another possibility: when The Governor has Michonne’s katana to Hershel’s neck, Rick tries to persuade the armed hostiles to join the Prison, including the Governor. Does anyone think Rick would have kept his word and allowed The Governor and his militia a safe haven? Or would he have only allowed the militia passage and found some way to get him killed?

What do you guys think would have happened in either situation? I’d love to hear some theories

The use of killing walkers through fences, or lack thereof

I'm currently on my first watch and I'm on ep 3x15, I'd like to address something that's been massively bugging me throughout the entirety of the 3rd season, the prison section. All of the people in the group possess knives, why the hell do they not actively use the tactic of "lure into fence by sound and stab" to clean up the prison entrance? We've seen them do it a couple of times, so they know how to do it, why do they not do this to clean up the entirety of the yard and instead choose to just hole up inside the inner fence, leaving the grass between the outer fence and the inner fence crawling with walkers? It's literally gonna take several minutes to get all of them and have that area to themselves for whatever. Sure, they may not have a use for it at the moment, but you have an area that is fenced and you still allow walkers to be inside of it, even though that's your entrance point and it's gonna take 10 minutes to clean it up.

Excuse my ramble, it may ultimately not be that big of a deal but I literally see no reason to not just take care of them, it's not like they never use that area, and as said, it's already fenced. That tactic could potentially be used to even kill the walkers that are outside of the fence and the whole prison, they keep on coming but it's not like they're infinite, there may be 15-20 walkers on the entrance everytime we see it, why not clean up just to be a little more secure, even for a small amount of time?

[SPOILERS] Thoughts on Theon Greyjoy

From the beginning when he seemed like one of the family and Rob threw out a comment "its not your house" and you could see the hurt on his face. To when hes by Robs side in the war, to almost sending a letter of warning to Rob. Then taking Winterfell, which again you can see on his face how conflicted he is at times with that choice. Then he stops the hunt for Bran and Rickon. These arent the actions of a man who is sure of the path he chose.

When Theon is in the tunnel with Ramsey Bolton, before he realizes hes been tricked, hes talking of all the wrong choices he made, all to impress his father, he says one line that gave me hope for his characters redemption. "My real father lost his head at Kings Landing" hearing that brought tears to my eyes. He was so lost and so confused that he almost completely forgot who he was truly raised to be.

Ramsey may have broken him for a time but I think when Sansa came back she helped him remember who his family truly was and where his loyalty should be.

I feel like too many people just straight up hate on him, or think he was a coward. I believe after watching his brothers die, then his father giving him away, being taken to a strange place and raised by people so different from his own traumatized him a bit. And part of him stayed that scared confused boy for a long time. Again Sansa I believe played a huge role in healing that part of him. And he in turn helped her learn to trust people again.

And in the end he leaves his blood sister to go fight for his true family at his real home, Winterfell. His last moments with Bran are hauntingly bitternsweet. Sansas tears as she places the wolf pin on his chest are heartbreaking.

To sum up, cause boy I rambled, I think Theon Greyjoy is one of the most complicated characters on the show and deserves more appreciation than he gets.

Mini-Review - TWD Comics: The Whisperers Arc + some time-jump stuff (Volumes 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29)

When Rick and the network of communities finally beat Negan, they made so much progress on rebuilding the world that we knew. But, peace isn't something that lasts long for your friends, and this new threat is bigger than anything they've faced so far....

Welcome to my (FULL OF SPOILERS!) review of the Whisperers Arc. I counted volumes 22, 28 and 29 as part of the arc, even though the Whisperers aren't a huge part of those, because they wouldn't fit better in any other major storyline. Be prepared, this is going to be an upopular opinion...

⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆

• A New Beginning (Volume 22)

Peaceful. Intriguing. Refreshing. After the action-packed story full of excitement that was All-Out War, a slower volume was NECESSARY, and I will stand by that. The time jump was executed brilliantly, and I really love how they re-introduced us to this world.

⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆

• Whispers Into Screams (Volume 23)

The "feeling" of Vol. 23 is very unique. I really enjoy the focus on Carl here, Lydia's addition was very welcome and I think the scenes with Carl and Sophia are excellent. Jesus kicking ass is also a highlight as always, and the Whisperers' proper introduction is really cool. I was on the edge the whole time, because there was always this feeling that something was coming. Truly a wonderful volume.

⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆

• Life And Death (Volume 24)

Something To Fear (Volume 17) started off thrilling and intense, them it reached its peak at Issue 100, and then slowed down after things went to shit. This volume is quite the opposite, it starts off hopeful, with returning characters and a big community event coming. Kirkman manages to make you think stuff won't end too badly, but ultimately punches us in the gut with THAT moment. Gosh, I love the pikes scene. This volume is a reminder that we are reading THE WALKING DEAD. It is brutal, heart-breaking, addicting, and awesome. One of the best and most iconic volumes, to me.

⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆

• No Turning Back (Volume 25)

This one has some great grieving reactions after The Fair massacre, and a great showcase of Rick's leadership. It's really solid. An enjoyable read, but it doesn't quite reach the same level of excellence as the other parts of this arc.

⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆

• Call To Arms (Volume 26)

Simply amazing. Walker training is fun to see, and I like the whole preparation to fight the Whisperers. Father Gabriel and Dwight getting more development is great, and so is Eugene and the radio storyline. Negan is basically perfect in this one, too. Wasn't a fan of the Alpha treatment at first, but upon re-reading, I really dig that last issue and everything about it. I feel like she could've gotten more moments in previous volumes, but I really like her here and I am satisfyied with her resolution. Beta's introduction is also amazing. Rick's arc after the time jump (at least thus far) is a lot better than most people make it out to be. Undoubtedly one of my favorite volumes. Very exciting from start to finish.

⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆

• The Whisperer War (Volume 27)

I know this isn't the most loved one, and a lot of the complaints I heard regarding it was because it's rushed. Personally, I throughly enjoyed this volume and it never felt exaggeratedly fast paced. I absolutely loved the 16-panel grid, as it managed to make the story more dense in just six issues. I'm sure that if this was a 2-part volume like All Out War, people would've complained a lot more. Very exciting to see how the conflict plays out, but I have to say that what stands out in this one is the art. Charlie Adlard absolutely kills it more than usual. By far, his best work on The Walking Dead up to this point. Rick not beinh in the front line was never really a problem to me. A super solid volume for sure, I love The Whisperer War!

⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆

• A Certain Doom (Volume 28)

The Ocean of the Dead attack might seem like a rehash of "No Way Out", but it's actually a very different storyline. The Whisperers' last resort is a reminder that our survivors shouldn't underestimate the dead, even if we're years into the apocalypse at this point. Love the interactions with Negan, and this is a very entertaining chapter. Plus... this was the only time the comic actually made me cry. I teated up during other moments, but Andrea's death was just devastating. She is, to me, an inspiring figure, and her farewell was one of the most memorable moments in this comic series.

⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆

• Lines We Cross (Volume 29)

I might be a little biased to talk about this volume, because it was the first one I read while the issues were still being released. But, all-in-all I really think this is a solid one. It's a transition volume, but a lot of great things happen here. I'm a Princess fan, so her introduction was great. The ultimate end to Beta and the Whisperers is pretty good, in my opinion. And Negan's spotlight Issue is certainly one of my top 10 issues. Really like this one.

⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆

My overall rating is:

A New Beginning - 9/10

Whispers Into Screams - 9.5/10

Life And Death - 9.5/10

No Turning Back - 7.5/10

Call To Arms - 9.5/10

The Whisperer War - 9/10

A Certain Doom - 9.5/10

Lines We Cross - 9/10

If you read it until here, I hope you're having a nice day :)

[SPOILERS] i just finished game of thrones...

Why did it end the way it did? i’m terribly disappointed... why did the writers decide to have Jon kill Dany, then be locked up and sent to the nights watch instead of become King? They picked a character (Bran) who was passive for over half of the series with little spotlight until the final seasons, and even then he wasn’t in the spotlight as much as the others. We weren’t able to connect with Bran as much as other characters, it just felt so very wrong.

in season 8, almost every character we wanted to be together, were together and in power. The ones we wanted to see fall, were falling. All signs pointed in a direction that seemed to be shaping up to be an amazing ending, then they broke everything apart and forced it in different directions.

i just don’t understand.

The Queen's Gambit feels like an anime at times.

First, I wanna make clear I don't know much about anime terminology.

Anyway, lately I've been seeing some Japanese shows and structurally Queen's Gambit also feels like a shonen (?) anime. You have the kid with great potential or hidden power, you have her going through different teachers to learn about new techniques, then the inevitable defeat just to understand you have to train if you wanna beat the really powerful evil guy. And even at the end, she's using her most powerful technique after realising she's not alone and she has her friends with her sending her some energy (you get the point).

I really enjoyed this show and visually is stunning.

Edit: Some people are annoyed by this post apparently and for some unknown reason. Not the first time r/television can't talk about television.

Warrior is heavily underrated and i urge you to watch it.

Honestly this show deserves so much more attention, its like gangs of New York mixed with peaky blinders, and Banshee. Great cast, fantastic action scenes and an original story. I have to warn you it's not a family show. Each episode leaves you wanting for more. There isn't a single episode rated below 8 stars and for good reason. This show will not disappoint you.

Set during the Tong Wars in late 1870s San Francisco, California, the series follows Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy who immigrates to San Francisco from China.

Season 9 is incredible, it's back to the quality that begun and to waver at the start of 4....

You know, the ethical themes framing all personalities to have them not be them, redundant philosophising, the campy action in 7/8, a slower with contrived diversions, stilted dialogue, weak character development and no real practical or intelligent dynamic on decision making as much. It became weaker every season and although some episodes may have been the best, the show was on such a horrifying decline overall into a superficial mess with predictability, no wit or charm, until the absolutely atrocious 7/8 that had the worst of 4/5/6 without enough redeeming moments to salvage it. Thankfully, I just started 9 and it's corrected all the flaws only becoming more amplified before with almost a delusional pride (I feel like Morgan typifies the repetitive ponifying of shallow spiritual ideas in circles over pragmatics).

However they have done this is a miracle! I'm actually excited for the TWD again for the direction and not just enduring the most lazy writers /directors to see my favourite characters! I mean, whoever was in charge of the disaster that was 7/8, despite having so many awesome star talent available, should be fired for their quality control on planning arcs to storyboards - it was like a very low budget ScyFi from the 90's.

i’m on episode one right now and just by the looks of it, the season is gonna be eventful and leave me at the edge of my seat a lot. what is that big herd of walkers? what’s the big plan they didn’t get to talk all the way through? where’s carl and Judith during this obviously eventful and dangerous event that they are showing us? i got so many questions- i know Carl loses his eye mid- season, Negan is introduced, and Glenn and Abraham get killed...but i wanna hear opinions on how good the season is overall.

Must see TV: in its latest episode, Warrior depicts the ethnic violence of the San Francisco Riot of 1877, in a matter similar to Watchmen's depiction of the Tulsa race massacre of 1921.

Has Negan ever shown any remorse?

I was very disappointed when Rick spared Negan, but I was optimistic that his redemption was going to be satisfying and fulfilling. However, every chance Negan gets to show remorse or regret for leading a regime that led to the deaths of hundreds of people he says something like “I built something,” “ I saved people,” or “ I ain’t gonna get on my knees about it.” And it’s frustrating that he’s supposedly being redeemed yet shows no remorse or regret. Is there any point in the show that he actually feels empathy to those he’s killed? Because I haven’t noticed any.

The last episode of Warrior on Cinemax honestly shocked me. Hand to my heart, I think it deserves an Emmy nom.

Warrior on Cinemax was a show I started watching because I liked Bruce Lee and the Kung Fu genre. For Two Seasons now, its been a fun/flawed pulpy epic that's the perfect fix for my martial arts cravings while sprinkling in commentary on race and immigration here and there.

But this episode though, holy cow did it hit like a ton of bricks. Just the perfect buildup of tension until the showdown in Chinatown. One thing I've always liked about Warrior is that it does not pull punches with its depiction of plight of 19th Century Chinese Americans despite its pulp fiction genre setting. But I was not expecting such a visceral episode that had a lynching of an innocent man begging for his life and then a pogrom in Chinatown where Irish rioters driven by racial hatred spared no one, not even women and children. I won't get political, but suffice it to say it felt really relevant in these times.

And then of course the massive battle scene, with Andrew Koji proving finally that he more than earned the part of Ah Sahm to carry on Bruce Lee's legacy. (Btw, happy 80th Birthday, still miss you even after all these years!)

Like I said, Warrior to me was always just a fun, entertaining pulpy genre mixer. Enter the Dragon though, was simply just a masterpiece of television craft.

So incase asking for this episode to get an Emmy is going too far, I hope at least HBO Max can greenlight a third season.

It's a shame that both of Starz's best shows, Spartacus and Black Sails, start off poorly - because they are incredible TV

I recently finished watching both of these shows and holy shit they are amazing. Epic, sweeping storylines, amazing characters and writing, and perfectly cast and acted. Both shows had 10/10 endings as well.

But the problem is...they're kinda shitty when they start out. It's crazy how both shows are kinda poor for the first 3-4 episodes, with wonky pacing, cheesy writing and sex and violence for no reason other than being gratuitous. But then they find their footing and it's just one high after another until the end. Some of SPartacus and Black Sails are legitimately some of the best TV I've ever seen. So many unforgettable characters - Batiatus, Gannicus, Flint, Charles Vane etc. and some truly fantastic writing and dialogue. That unique diction and way of speaking the characters have in Spartacus and the ornate, baroque speech in Black Sails - just wonderful.

I wish more people stuck it out a bit longer with these shows because they're top tier.

Kaitlin Olsen should have long ago won an EMMY for the portrayal of Dee Reynolds on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. There's no female character that comes anywhere close to her on any comedy series. So crude and vulgar and yet quite endearing over the last 13 seasons. Olsen deserves so much cred!

As a massive fan of the TV series Fargo, this season 4 has just completely missed the boat thus far

There's 1 episode left in this season and I find myself very disappointed with this season. I'm not familiar with the writing/directing changes from season to season for this show but this season feels like a bunch of writers and directors doing their best attempt at an impression of the previous season and either not understanding the depth of the previous seasons or perhaps just failing on the execution.

  1. There's so much monologue-ing and the characters often try to appear as if they have wisdom to bestow but the writing of the dialogue completely fails to back it up, so they come off as haughty at best. They tell stories that are supposed to be revelatory and I sit there saying to myself "So what?" Their monologues feel unearned and the stories they tell, I'm not even sure are worth telling. It feels like 'The Wire' without the authenticity and wisdom to back it up.

  2. Chris Rock's character in particular never earns the respect you're supposed to have for him. Its half because(and I say this as someone that loves and admires Chris Rock as a comic) Rock's performance is very flat and it very often feels like he's reading dialogue off of a piece of paper. It literally reminds me of high school when we would take turns reading parts of a book out loud, paragraph to paragraph, switching from one student to another. Rocks performance feels like a kid reading a paragraph. It feels like he brings little to this role. And the other half of the problem with Rock's character is he's predictable and he's not supposed to be. Very clearly the show is trying to make this character out to be this strong, principled Denzel Washington-esque character that you're supposed to respect when they speak. But the character(and the actor) never earns that image so you just end up eye-rolling scenes that are supposed to shake you at your core.

  3. The show tries to do the off-beat 'Fargo' moments but there's no substance behind it and it again, feels like an imitation of someone else's work. Previous seasons have briefly and almost precariously touched on supernatural elements and the way this season does it, is just so much more bold. The colorful characters feel like they are colorful for the sake of being colorful instead of offering more substance to the show. Characters do wacky things because its wacky. They will spontaneously die, not because there's a deeper message, but because they want to fill a gap in and make something loud and odd happen. Some characters even die in ways that are just so dissatisfying and it feels like the writers are just discarding them because they are running out of runway as the season comes to a close and it's more of an exclamation point to have one character kill another or for them to slip up and make a mistake that somehow results in a silly, dark 'Fargo' death.

  4. It also doesn't help that the show is just painfully predictable when it comes to character actions and circumstances and there's nothing particularly clever about things that the show wants you to believe is clever. And when they do make an attempt at being 'poetic' it's just overwrought. You can just visualize the "A-HA" moment the writers had in their writing room when they perceive they've just created some bit of "poetry". But again, its so overwrought and predictable that it loses any power it could have had.

The Mandalorian gave us an orange Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka why couldn't we get an orange Starfire in Titans?

This bothered me so much and everyone made it about race. No it wasn't about race. You cast a normal black woman as an orange alien and then dressed her like a hooker was the problem. It was a terrible portrayal of the character. We got a green Gamora, we got an orange Ahsoka (and honestly the best possible portrayal for live action you could expect) but when it comes to Titans? Nah let's just leave Anna Diop a black women. How hard was it to paint her skin color to match the character?

Lee Everett - Ricky Whittle (The 100)

Clementine - Ariana Greenblatt (Love and Monsters)

Kenny - Richard Speight Jr (Supernatural)

Katjaa - Mädchen Amick (Riverdale)

Duck - Jacob Trembley (Wonder)

Carley - Sarah Drew (Grey’s Anatomy)

Lilly - Haley Webb (The Final Destination)

Larry - Terry O’Quinn (Lost)

Ben - Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why)

Omid - Dominic Rains (Chicago Med)

Christa - Meagan Tandy (Batwoman)

What are your thoughts.

Who would you cast to be in the live action series of the games?

Growing up with this show

I’m 26 now, and have watched the show since season 1. I was still in high school when it became a thing, and now my life is at a completely different juncture, with the walking dead being one of the only constants. I just cannot imagine any yearly routine of my life without this inexplicable and amazing journey. Because of its entertaining nature, the complete impact it has on the way people think, act, and feel can be easily lost at times. When this show ends, the void in me will feel so noticeable for quite some time.

World Beyond in a nutshell

So the civic republic wants to bring back civilization. They kidnap Hope because she's "special" So special they wipe out 10000 people? How are not a single 1/10000 important for the future generations? Doesn't make sense. You want to bring back civilization but kill an entire colony of people, bring suspicion on your own organisation just for Hope. Anyways, enjoyable show. Elton, Percy are great characters.

[SPOILERS] Cannot trust anyone! My thoughts on season 1 through 4 as a new viewer

This post is just me dumping 4 full seasons worth of content, ideas, and grievances out so I can get it out my head. The reason I waited so long to watch the show is because I hate magic and goblins and spells and all that shit. I haven’t looked through the sub yet, don’t want to spoil the end of the show.

They did the Stark family dirty from the beginning of the show till the end of season 4. 3 dead members and the rest spread to the win like dust on a windy day. I know they weren’t perfect, but I still liked them.

Glad John Snow is still alive though, like that one, fights well. Shame about the red haired girl, liked her a lot too, wished they had stayed in that cave. I really like the full episode where they defended the wall! Hugely epic episode!

Hated to see the old man Mourmound die. He went out like a champ though, fighting till the end.

Surprised I like Mance Raider so much.

Theon was a fool and I won’t say he deserved to have his cock chopped off, but he did deserve something for betraying the Starks. All the Iron Islanders, betray each other. Didn’t even fight for their prince, their honor bought and sold.

Bolton and his bastard are terrible. Hope they get killed in a horrible way. Them and Walter? Wallder? Fray they killed Robb Stark and all his people for gold, those damn Lannisters!

Not a huge fan of the dragon lady either. I know she wants to be a perfect ruler and that drive towards perfection can be irritating. She talks like she’s better than everyone she even dismisses Jorah, good man than one, shame to see him go. It’s her fault she got Aquaman killed. I liked Aquaman aka Declan Harp. Her and her dragons acting like she can control them.

*Why did Robb Stark need ships? Why didn’t they just use the Kings Road to travel south? *

Not a huge fan of Stannis either, he isn’t a great man and he would have killed, Sir Devos aka Brick from Centurion on command of that red lady. He’ll be just as cruel as Joffrey if he becomes king. I hate that red chick too. Her and her false god of light, and wtf was that black thing she gave birth to?! Would like to see her head with that red hair get chopped off. Don’t like Stannis’s wife either she would have killed her own daughter. Also hope King Robert’s bastard comes back at some point. Maybe he will be a good king.

Why does the old man with the loud metal circles in King’s Landing pretend to have a crocked back?

They fuckin killed Pedro Paschal, christ. I liked his character, I did not see that death coming at all. Truly shocked by that one.

And who the fuck are these two kids with Bran(kinda hate him too)?? This kid and his sister magically found Bran. Good thing he wasn’t still in Winterfell because he might not have left with them. And where tf did she learn to fight? I like that Bran can control animals, a cool power.

Ariya Stark is a bit of a piece of crap too, couldn’t even give The Hound a fair death after he saved her life (I know he killed the butcher’s boy, but he saved her sister more than once). He saved her life too. Maybe he’s not dead, maybe he comes back, I hope so I kinda liked him.

Glad Tierian got his revenge though, felt good. This means the evil queen gets free rein. Hate the queen character too. Vicious creator that one, she has no limits.

Final question what happened to the youngest Stark kid??

TL:DR -I really like show, I’ve watched four seasons in 6 days. I can see why so many people like the show.

Season seven

I stopped watching season seven. I am currently attempting another watch through because up to six is really a great show. Season seven is just... so ungodly stupid and poorly written... it’s is so bad. What in all that is holly did they do to this season? The dumb ass tiger... The god damn trash people with the Star Trek pit with a spike monster, who for some reason speak like cave men... the absolute abandonment of prior character development.. I really want to have faith that the show gets better after this season. Does it get good again? I’m not sure how many seasons are left but I think there’s quite a few...

Ben and Allen are the worst characters in the TV show

Are these two supposed to be dad and son? In what universe? This is weird. Their relationship to eachother is weird and not to mention to others are. Their relationship to Tyreese and Sasha is weird. The way Allen acts when Ben is killed is just awkward.

These two are very bad characters. Definitely worst part of Season 3.

I just finished Mr. Robot. I am honestly stunned by how incredible it was. I rarely say this, but it was perfect.

Seriously, I’m still trying to wrap my head around the ending. That was one of the most unique, original, and just straight up authentic shows I have ever watched.

Season 1 was very good. Season 2 was good (better looking back now). But Seasons 3 an 4 were simply stunning. None of my friends have watched Mr. Robot and all I want to do is talk about it. I knew it’d be good. I didn’t know it’d be this good!

Rami Malek, my hat is off to you. Same goes to Christian Slater and the rest of the cast. I am an emotional wreck. In the BEST way.

Any recommendations for similar feeling shows are very appreciated.

How far would you get without killing people?

So I'm talking about how far do you think a person or group would get if they didn't kill any human person? They can injure them if they want by shooting them but not purposefuly killing them.

I'm not talking about how alexandria was shielded from the whole apocalypse sort of thing, just being out there like Rick's group but not killing humans. Like if they met people like the governor, negan they would probably die if they didn't run and stuff.

I just feel like there has to be someone or some group that hasn't killed anyone by choice. The way Morgan went when he wanted to lock people up. I just figured someone has to have the mindset of they shouldn't kill because once they become a murderer there won't be a chance they can go back and have humanity, sorta like Dale and hershel.

Just looking for your opinion, do you think they'd eventually have to kill or that there are some situations where they'd have no choice? do you think they'd be dead? Do you think they'd be able to last and die of walkers or just dying?

[Spoilers] My unanswered questions an thoughts after the finale

I just finished GoT for the first time. I read the books over most of this year and watched the show starting a couple months ago. While the ending wasn’t good, I don’t think it was as bad as comments I’d seen made me think it would be.

Here’s my final questions/thoughts now that I’ve seen the finale:

1) Why is Brienne a member of Bran’s Kingsguard? Wouldn’t it make more sense for her be be part of Sansa’s Queensguard (assuming she has one)?

2) I think I get why Drogon didn’t kill Jon (he’s a Targaryen), but why did Drogon focus on destroying the Iron Throne? Did Drogon understand what the throne was?

3) How did Sam become a Maester, let alone Grand Maester, so quickly? He hasn’t even forged a single chain link before stealing the books from the Citadel, and at the very end, he doesn’t even have a real chain. He shouldn’t be qualified to be a Grand Maester. How does that affect his family with Gilly?

4) So is there still a Night’s Watch? If so, isn’t Sam still sworn to them? If not, then how was Jon sentenced to rejoin them? If it was a lie to appease the Unsullied and everyone else knew Jon was just being sentenced to live among the Free Folk, why not just lie anyways and have Jon return to Winterfell once the Unsullied leave?

5) Why would Bran/Tyrion ever actually trust Bronn as the new Lord of Highgarden, let alone make him the Master of Coin? Bronn has given no indication that he’s loyal to anything other than coin, no matter how friendly he seems with Tyrion.

6) Bran is still my least favorite character. By far.

7) I’m glad Pod got knighted and became a member of the Kingsguard.

8) Maybe I’m reading too much into this one. But when Beric Dondarion died, Melisandre said something like “the Lord kept bringing him back because he still had something to do. Now that he’s done it, it’s time for him to die.” If that logic is true across the board, Jon was brought back to life because he still had something to do, and the fact he hasn’t died yet means he still hasn’t done the “thing”.

7) Overall, I’m glad the show changed enough or left out stuff from the books that gives me hope the books will play out differently and have a better ending. Things like the Horn of Winter and Dragonbinder (Euron’s horn) and Lady Stoneheart and the Lord of Light being reborn could really change the ending of the books.

Thoughts? Discussion?

The true ending of The Walking Dead - An Alternate Way to Think About the Show (An Essay)

Hello everyone.

So first and foremost, I think this post might divide people but I think this view/concept of The Walking Dead has merit that - in this post - I will explore. First of all I need to pay homage to another TV series people here may or may not know to understand where I am coming from a bit better. However, so you get the gist of what this post is about. For me, the show ended in Season 5, Episode 11 "The Distance". Now, to my case.

TL;DR at bottom.

I want to start this post with saying that post S5E11 I enjoy the show for what it is, but think of it in a different way or like to enjoy the show with a different spin.

To understand a bit better where this small essay is going I want to briefly talk about TV show called Justified. For those who have never seen it, what it is about and what happens in it is not something you really need to know to get an idea of where I am coming from. So:

For Fans of just TWD, not Justified fans:

Justified ended with 6 seasons of gloriously crafted television and - in my opinion - is one of the best shows ever made. My main reason to make such a bold claim being that the show was handled in a very delicate way. While renewing the show for a 7th season was an option, and many fans wanted this, the show ended at Season 6 because the characters and all their arcs had run their natural course. The show was completed and the payoffs set up from season to season executed perfectly. In essence, the talented minds behind the show had the narrative intelligence to know when to end the show with its natural story conclusion.

For Fans of both shows (spoilers for Justified below):

Justified ended at the perfect conclusion of both Boyd and Raylan in a very satisfying way. What I found unique about the show was how Boyd's character arc was - in essence - about his change. Raylan's arc being about his resistance in the face of giving into criminal undertones he had been flirted with the whole show. They are both triumphant in their own arc completions; as are all the major characters to some degree. This narrative intelligence shown by the screen writers and producers of when to end the show was paramount to its success and critical acclaim. The show never experienced stagnant character arcs (for the mains at least) and had an end that fit the overall story of the show.

Now, I am fairly certain you may now know where this is going. To me, I want to make the case that Season 5, Episode 11 is the end of the show. I want to present an alternate way to view the show for some who may seem a little bit disillusioned by the current direction of not only the show but the TV fictional universe being developed.

To make this easier for my own sake, I want to use Justified as an example to create a checklist of sorts. This checklist is what I want to use to further illustrate my claim.

So, for a story to end in most mediums, we need the following (imo):

- The completion of a third and final act of the over-encompassing story themes

- A final huge character development for our main protagonist that is subjectively positive OR a final character stagnation that is subjectively negative

- In larger works with more content like novels and TV shows, the completion of a localized story arc

- Usually the completion of protagonist character arcs in line with their huge development change

- The completion or inferred completion of side character story's and arcs

Justified, in many respects, ticks all of those boxes. If you are not a fan I guess you will have to read past this next section for comparison (if you care about spoilers).

- Justified can be broken down into three acts that follows most westerns; lawman rides into town, cleans up the troublemakers, takes care of the biggest threat towards the end as a conclusion (usually with some kind of self sacrifice)

- Raylan rises above his inner instinct to kill Boyd; we say a microcosm of this with Dickie Bennet. Raylan has a somewhat contradictory and rare stagnant development in that everything he goes through doesn't change his worldview which is arguably for the better. However, this works for his character.

- The final season wrapped up the Boone/outsider coming in to rob Harlan storyline that was set up at the start of the Season. (which links into a theme that resonates with old westerns)

- Raylan, like stated above, doesn't change his world view and completes his arc by not giving into his inner outlaw ways while leaving Harlan alive. This makes sense for the way Raylan has been written.

- Most, if not all, of the side characters have some final moment or completion of their arcs or it is inferred via dialogue/actions (even if it means a final interaction that pays homage to their first interaction with the main protagonist)

Now this isn't all iron tight but it mostly adds up. Now, using this comparison, let's look at S5E11 and finally make the case.

- TWD can be broken down into three acts; each with very specific tones to match how the characters develop in this new world. Fear (S1-2). Perseverance (S3-4). Salvation (S5). From Seasons 1-2 we see a main focal point of fear in the episodes, characters, and new world they inhabit. In S1, the dead became the big, bad fear that threatens the survivors. In S2 this fear shifts to walkers and humans. By S3 we see the Perseverance act begin with the finding of the prison and Woodbury; in turn giving them hope and a greater threat. This is extended into S4 with the illness and the destruction of the prison. S5 becomes full circle to finding a place they can truly be safe or find salvation. These acts mimic the waves of emotions/states the war refugees go through (which funnily enough is referenced by Rick later in S5; just in reference to soldiers in war). The fear of the war. The perseverance of those involved on all sides. Then their salvation with the war's end. All reflected in the survivors' story. The over-encompassing arc, imo, is that TWD is a story about war at its core; a microcosm of it and everything people face during it.

- For our huge character develop for our main protagonist; Rick finally accepts that Alexandria is their salvation and finds a place his survivors can call home. The main driving force behind all three evolving themes of fear, perseverance, and salvation is paid off in the final scenes of children's laughter and sunlight illuminating their new home. He has found a place that his family can be safe in. Yet, the hidden gun is a stark reminder that history can repeat itself. Is is both a beacon of hope and tomb of the horrors they faced.

- Season 5 wrapped up the sub-plots of the Termites and bringing the group back together after S4; which ties into the localized season specific plotlines.

- Rick completes his own arc; not only finding a place for his family but paying homage to 'making it out alive' like his grand father did in WW2. Just as his grand father survived WW2, Rick survived his own war.

- All of the supporting/main characters that are with Rick complete their respective arcs (to a degree) with the over-encompassing arc to survive for salvation.

Watching TWD from S1-S5E11 gives a concise, sarin wrapped show that, had it finished where it had, I think would have been a perfect piece of cinema/TV for decades to come. A story told about multiple themes with a diverse cast that can teach us a lot about ourselves and our lives through their own war.

This leaves the question of the rest of the show. How do I think post-S5E11? I like to view it as Rick's PTSD in a sense. PTSD is, at its core, about reliving and exaggerating horrific trauma as your body's way of preparing for similar trauma in the future. The function of this being to keep you aware and ready for similar threats in the future (at least, that is how a Doctor explained it to me as I am not a mental health professional). So I like to think of the post-S5E11 episodes as Rick's PTSD exaggerating his trauma through dream sequences; much like soldiers suffer PTSD after conflict. While this is a loose way to think about it, it fits nicely when you see it from this perspective. That Rick, in his dreams and thoughts about what could be, experiences the bad (PTSD) (Negan and so on) and the good (the lighter themes later on about rebuilding a new world) just like real dreams in our own minds work and extend from our thought processes/sub-conscious.

Just a few thoughts? :)

TL;DR - Think about the show ending at S5E11, and the rest being a series of dreams/PTSD experiences that Rick experiences after the 'war' they went through from Season 1-5.

Just going to leave this here (think of this as the last collection of scenes TWD ever has): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJZOlzKjG6s

Either the whole Randall thing happens and he kills Rick instead, or it never happens.

Patriot is one of the best televisions shows I’ve ever seen.

As someone who has written for TV before, the way that show interweaves story and incorporates music blows my mind. I’ve watched a shit load of TV in my life and rarely do I find something as complex and entertaining as this. If you haven’t watched it, please give it a try. It’s dark, hilarious, and just damn good. (On Amazon prime.)

Mr. Robot: Season 4, Episode 7

Just watching this season on prime. I love that Sam Esmeil is still doing this. That rare episode that subverts expectations you’re forming about an already-inventive show is so fantastic. The leftovers and Atlanta have done it in the recent past, as well.

And the genius stroke to push boundaries by pulling back, reverting to stage play. I fucking love it.

I’m 1) happy that the structure of the industry allows for this type of experimentation and 2) happy that we have some fantastic creators who know how to use the extra latitude that they take.

So great; so great.

About to be done with Frasier, and next will move on to TWD. Always saw the first episode or 2 but always got distracted to other shows and dropped it.

Well, im going to commit and watch the entire show here starting next week. What am I getting into?!

Though its good to go in without any bias, what are the general opinions/consensus of the show? Tbh with all the binging im about to do, I may quickly forget the opinions stated.

After All Out War he was completely forgotten, and barely spoke. He wasn't even seen in the final issue, not even when we see other characters as Carl reads the book. Does this mean he died? I sure hope not. I wish they would've given him something after All Out War, even if it was a storyline that led to his death. He was given the T-Dog treatment.

[SPOILERS] S8 Ep3 Has the worst battle tactics in the history of battles

I'm sure this has been talked about to death but here is my thoughts on it

  1. WHY just send the dothraki into the darkness against 100,000 of the dead?? You're literally sending them out to die

They could have them inside the walls or hiding in the woods and have them charge mid battle

  1. Why were the catapults only used once? You should be launching every single boulder you have at them. One after the after

  2. Why weren't arrows used? They are effective on walkers aren't they? Fire arrows?

Same with the catapults, they should be firing hundreds of arrows constantly until the moment the dead hit them.

  1. These 2 dragons could have probably wiped out half of that army before they even attacked winterfell.

Seriously, the dragons should have been one of the biggest weapons. When the dead were standing there / charging. These dragons should have been coming out lighting them up

ALSO they did build one trench and it did a good job of slowing them down

Why not build a few??

Why are you just letting 100'000 walkers just charge at you and nothing stopping them

Multiple trenches should have been built to slow them down

Now.... Before the dead even reach you they have to deal with

  • Trenches on fire, slowing them down
  • 30-50 boulders/Caterpults hitting them
  • 100s of arrows
  • 2 Dragons lightning them up

If the dead reach the castle and we are in a battle.... You now have a secret weapons.. thousands of dothrakis charging in.

Also... When the dead were climbing up the castle... Why is no one throwing Oil / Rocks / Arrows and stopping them?

Literally all you need a few guys, tipping oil on them but instead you're just inviting them into the castle.

It's embarrassing that the show didn't think of these things because you have these kings / queen's / warriors / leaders / knights all in a room before the battle starts and they came up with the weakest battle plan ever made in the biggest battle of their lives.... Really stupid.

Any other good tactics they could have used?

season four, episode nine

The scene where Carl thinks Rick has turned is amazing. Chandler Riggs did such a good job, and the part where he’s cradling rick’s head and whispering “I’m scared,” is so heartbreaking to me (as is the part where he drops his gun because he can’t kill him and just cries). The first glimpse of Carl actually being a kid in a long time. That scene is so sad and really well done in my opinion.

[NO SPOILERS] Should I read ASOIAF first or watch GOT (already read the first book)

I'm sure this is a question the server gets alot but I really need to know something accurate to my own situation. I wanna read ASIOAF first but due to covid 19 theres barely any copies available in book shops and it'll be too late by the time I get them since my education is gonna intensify next year. Some of you might say to read an ebook but I'm really really slow with ebooks and its honestly not as fun as an actual paperback. So should I just watch GOT first entirely or should be more patient and wait half a year to be able to read the books in peace. As I said before, I've already read the first book and I know its exactly to my liking, but I dont wanna wait so long to be able to read the rest of the books. Also, online ordering is not an option for now either since I'm practically broke right now (spent all my money on other books )

Again I'm very sorry for asking this question cuz I know alot of ppl are probably sick of it at this point. Any helpful responses would be greatly appreciated

I'm fucking pissed

I posted about a week and a half ago that I loved season 3 and thought it was perfect. I honestly think I like season 4 even more, the episodes after the Governor's attack were awesome! BUT, I just watched the season 5 midseason finale and why the FUCK did Beth die?! I genuinely don't think I've ever been more pissed off about a character dying. I feel like she was just starting to get an awesome arc and focus on her. I honestly didn't see it coming when she went to stab Dawn, even though I probably should have. I'm dead inside and I've been sitting here for like 25 minutes not able to make myself watch another episode right now. As usual, please no more hints about what comes later, keep it contained to what I've seen (Season 5 episode 8)

"I don't know what happened between you and those yellow haired shits! I don't want to know! So tell your wife to return that little shit of an Imp to Kings Landing. She's had her fun now put an end to it."

Why is this just so satisfying?

She was so smug and lied so much here, and we were only 6 episodes into the show at this point!

It's not OK to hit a woman ..... so why does this seem so justified here ultimately? And this is only like 3.76% into all the horrible shit Cersei is going to end up 'accomplishing' throughout the show! She was so evil so early on - almost forgot just how terrible she truly was from the very start!!

Just finished s4 and I'm thinking about Carl

TL;DR I'd like to see Carl's trauma from almost being r-ped be handled with emotional depth like how Maggie's was. Speaking as a male r-pe victim who was around Carl's age, it really struck home for me and I saw myself in a charaxcter getting justice i never got.

So, I'm not looking for spoilers into future content but I just want to talk about what happened with Carl in the last episode of season 4. Also forgive any weird formatting, I'm on mobile.

In the show so far it kinda seems like Carl's trauma gets brushed to the side sometimes, or maybe it's just that he seems to hide it more. With Maggie, when she was violated it really shook her up. Once the group (Carl, Rick, Michonne, Daryl) all reach Terminus and have to lay down their weapons and be frisked, I kinda wish Carl had a reaction to that. I think that since he was almost r-ped the previous night, he'd be skittish about being frisked by another grown man. I'm curious to see if he's affected by what happened to him in any similar ways to Maggie, or if he'll bury this down too.

Maybe it's just me or maybe it's too soon to tell since it all happened in one episode but I think he should have a lasting shaken up feeling. I always liked Carl and maybe it's cuz we've seen him grow up on the show, but I just wanna protect him even more now. I also find myself relating to him more, as I'm a male r-pe victim myself. The scene was very triggering to watch, but I'm glad I followed through. Watching Rick stab the shit out of Carl's would-be r-pist was sort of therapeutic.

[No Spoilers] Come To Take The Black Puddin'

[Sam] "Samwell Tarly, of Horn Hill. I mean, I was of Horn Hill. I've come to take the black."

[Rast] "Come to take the black pudding ....!!"

Ahhh fat jokes! Sort of like dwarf jokes. Everyone who makes a joke about a dwarf's height thinks he's the only person ever to make a joke about a dwarf's height. 'The height of nobility,' 'a man of your stature,' 'someone to look up to.' You're all making the same five or six jokes."

Actually a little funnier when it's a fat guy trying to crack a fat joke on another fat guy .... 🤷‍♂️

[SPOILERS] Quick question re: Lady Mormont's little speech at the end of Season 6

"We know no king but the King in the North whose name is Stark. I don't care if he's a bastard. Ned Stark's blood runs through his veins. He's my king, from this day until his last day."

Shouldn't she say "Robb Stark's blood..."? Ned was a nice guy and everything but he wasn't a king. I know it's a minor point but Robb Stark was crowned King in the North and he's the only one they've had in centuries since the Targaryens arrived in Westeros. When Jon succeeds him I think Robb should at least get a name-drop at some point. Seems like everyone forgot about his legacy, short as it was.

I wonder if.

So I just saw the trailer of TWD. Hershel Jr looks like Glen. Do you think he will have scenes with Negan or is that a bit twisted considering he resembles Glen and is still just a boy. And with what Negan did and how graphic it was. Also taking pictures of Glens body. Sickening. I never read the comics so idk what happens with them or if they do or don’t interact. How would you feel about this possibly happening?

I put future spoiler because it could possibly be a scene. My apologies if you don’t think it is. I just don’t want to spoil it for anyone.

[NO SPOILERS] Anyone play any strategy/RP ASOIAF/GOT tabletop-type games?

I used to run a Diplomacy game variant with some heavy ASOAIF flavor; you made your own house and its characters(marriage alliances), got to pick from some traits and such, do tournies but at its root was still a strategy game, with some ties to Risk.

https://i.imgur.com/adgiVQ5.jpg

That was a map from one of the successful runs we had. Just seeing if there was any interest among strategy game fans or fans of either series in a Diplomacy/Risk-like variant.

“It’s time for you to come back.” - Imagine if...

(First off, this isn’t one of those whiny posts about how the show sucks and I don’t watch it anymore because I still do and I love it.)

That said, I was binge watching it from the start for the 458th time and started thinking about S02E10 “18 Miles Out” when Rick saves Shane and tells him to come back.

Imagine if Shane did come back and was himself again. It happens all the time on TWD. Think about the storyline and how it would be Rick and Shane taking on The Governor. Or Terminus? Or the first time Shane meets Michonne, Abraham, Rosita, Jarvis...

If they ever wanted to revive the show in the future, rewriting it from that moment would be an amazing idea.

Happy Thanksgiving y’all!

Longtime aspiring TV producer gets first Showrunner credit on TV tonight — Buddy Vs Christmas on Food Network, Art Competition Show

Hey guys,

Long time redditor here. I imagine this will get buried, but after spending years in TV working on less than desirable shows, a bunch of strange circumstances this summer allowed me to (accidentally) inherit and e new show on Food Network. It’s kindve a silly idea— the Cake Boss is an artist who’s medium is cake, and he challenges other artists (glass blowers, LEGO artists, set designers) in Christmas themed competitions.

Anyway, I’m proud of the show. It’s my first big break, and it airs tonight at 10PM on Food Network. If any of your have a Nielsen Ratings box, please consider watching ?

Thanks Reddit. Appreciate you guys.
