Who was the best actor in GoT?
I'm not sure, I'd lean towards Tywin. He's a classic stage actor and like in the scene where Joffrey got cheeky with him, he conveyed so much with his face, before even speaking.
Though inexperienced, Joffrey was outstanding. To inspire so much hatred of a character means you're nailing the role.
Tyrion was good, but I don't think as good.
I find it's often hard to distinguish good acting, from good characters. Like in HoD, I love Matt Smith, but reluctantly accept that Paddy Considine prob out-acts him.

Willow and the mockery of fantasy
After reading several comments about the show, and the general hate this subs has for it, I thought useful to remind (or warn) that Willow does not aim to compete with House of Dragons, Rings of Power or the Witcher. Not in budget, certainly, but more importantly, neither in tone. Willow is supposed to be silly. The original film certainly was, in retrospect.
The show we got is an anachronistic pastiche of fantasy, where characters are frauds, borderline incompetent, unable to live up to the expectations, and yet, against all odds, manage to pull through. The absurdity and the grotesque is what makes it a fun experience, at least, if you set your expectations accordingly.
Does it succeed though? At times. Other times, it misses the mark. But it you're going to watch it, I'd suggest to wait and binge it, or to watch it very casually with an open mind. Or you know, put it aside if it's not your thing. That's ok too.

Hi guys! I just finished the show tonight. I was actually looking forward to seeing all the memes that have been made without fear of spoilers. You didn't let me down.
I think one thing that we need to remind ourselves of is how good a show it is. I was amazed by some of the story lines, acting, dramatics in general - particularly season 5-6. It is so so good.
I also think the biggest shock in terms of deaths was Ned Stark. That shit destroyed me. Everything after that was to be expected based on the theme of the show. I seriously didn't see Ned starks death coming and it hurt so much lmao. I began to think anyone could die after that episode.
Disappointing final series but overall, what a show. Let's not forget that

I feel like sometimes I'll binge a show and it seems like every single episode has a different person directing it.
Maybe the finale will have one of the writers or creators directing it but so many of the mid season episodes just have what seems like a random person directing it...why is that?

What is an underrated show that you love?
Of course hard to say whether something is “underrated”—that alone is matter of opinion! But for me it’s Halt and Catch Fire. I think it is a perfect show, everything from the acting, to the writing, to the score—just so good. And each season there are BIG changes and the characters actually change and grow. I was so sad when I finished the show but so satisfied at the same time.
And maybe I’m just friends with the wrong people (lol) but I cannot seem to find another person irl who also loves this show. I don’t get it!

I was really enjoying my GoT rewatch until...
Euron showed up. (S6E2: Home).
While I've re-read the books several times, I've only watched the entire TV series through once. I've been home sick for a week and took the opportunity to finally go through it all again. I've really been enjoying it to be honest, particularly the small moments you easily forget with time - still love the Tywin + Arya scenes, for example. And then 2/3 through the second episode in season six, Balon Greyjoy walked out on the bridge in the stormy night, and my heart sank as I saw the figure of Euron emerge, lit by lightning. Sigh.
How about you? If you've rewatched the show, what moment do you recall where a disliked event or character showed up? Sure, there are many opportunities for disappointment on rewatch, particularly for book readers. But do you remember a big one you experienced?

What’s the worst example of a character getting killed off because they “outlived their usefulness”?
I have a few:
Illana from Lost. I still to this day don’t understand what the purpose of her character was besides bringing Sayid back to the island. That and her getting randomly blown up were the only memorable things about her character. I know she was originally supposed to be Jacob’s daughter and that storyline was scrapped, but still, the writers could’ve given her more to do. Even Ben lamp-shaded the writers’ decision to kill her off by saying, “The island was done with her.” 🏝️
Mike Anderson from Dexter. He was a chill dude and probably one of the only competent law enforcement characters on the show. For him to be immediately killed off in the Season 7 premiere, I have to assumed the writers didn’t know what to do with him and gave him an unceremonious death as a result. Even the other characters didn’t seem to miss him when he died. 👮♂️
Alexei from Stranger Things. Alexei was an obvious fan favorite because he was funny and arguably the most innocent Russian in the show. I knew he technically betrayed his country, but the way Grigori killed him was so mean-spirited. It also didn’t help that he didn’t interact with a lot of the main characters, which made his death less impactful than it should’ve been. 💀
I have many more, but those are the best ones I can think of. What are yours? 👀
FYI: I’m mostly referring to characters whose deaths fell flat or happened unexpectedly, hence the phrase “outlived their usefulness”.

People say Shane was ahead of his time, but really Rick was.
Rewatching the show right now, and S1 EP2 “Guts” shows Rick’s ability to adapt. He was the one to think of using the walker’s guts to hide their scent, he was the one to take charge, and he was the one to put his life on the line for complete strangers (Glenn too).
Being a good leader and being able to adapt is far more useful than just being willing to kill those who oppose you. Shane was fit to save his own skin, but Rick was ahead of his time.

Outside of season 7 and 8, I would say that it would be when Cersei entrusts the High Sparrow with as much political power as she did and then acted surprised when he betrayed her. Cersei is usually more intelligent and tactical when it comes to political decisions.

Horses dying, people getting slaughtered, arrows peiricing people and swords shattering armor. The best part? Jon's POV, him slicing people, dodging arrows, fighting people and watching his army die. I know the show’s decline is a dead horse, but I can’t help but be fascinated by how the show’s sound design slowly eroded after the movie. In the first 3 seasons, SpongeBob mainly used stock music in its sound design, meaning most of the songs were not really composed for the show. This may seem like a negative thing to point out, but I honestly think the way they used these songs were genius and really added to the unique vibe the show had. All the Hawaiian songs you heard were actual genuine Hawaiian compositions recorded from the 60s to the 90s, which gave the show’s sound an added layer of authenticity. They also featured a lot of surf rock music from actual bands, most notably a band called “The Surf Dusters” who had 12 of their songs pretty prominently featured throughout the show’s first 3 seasons (mainly 1&2). The pirate songs you heard were mainly real sea shanties that had been arranged instrumentally. Then you have the “elevator stock music”(think Always Sunny) from the 60s which gave the show a retro edge.
After the movie, the series composers (mainly Nicholas Carr) began contributing more original music made specifically for the show. He had composed for the show before of course, most notably the “Closing Theme” that played constantly throughout the first 3 seasons. For the most part though, the compositions were mainly minor stings and one-off short pieces.
Around the half way point of season 4 however, mainly starting with the episodes produced in 2006, the show began to phase out a lot of the old stock songs, and began introducing new songs made specifically for the show. What I think was lost here was that instead of having authentic sea shanties and Hawaiian songs and surf rock, the show’s music started to get a lot more goofier and sitcom-like while still adhering to the pastiches of those styles. As a result, the show’s background music became a lot “stupider” sounding and more in your face.
Starting around season 7, a lot of what was left of the show’s original soundtrack was abandoned. Most of the iconic Krusty Krab music for example was replaced with original compositions, which capture the genre in a way, but don’t have the same impact due to the fact they just sound very bouncy and cartoony in a way the old ones just didn’t. The Surfdusters, whose music was barely featured after the movie to begin with (only like 2-3 times between seasons 5-6), were never used again.
I’m not sure what inspired this change, but this direction seems to go hand in hand with the show’s pivot away from family audiences towards young children. If you look through the soundtracks to recent episodes in the last few seasons, pretty much all the music featured now are original compositions made between 2006 and onwards for the show, and they mostly sound very goofy and silly like they were made specifically for a children’s tv show (which they were). The show does still occasionally use some music from the show’s early seasons, but it’s very sparse and usually just the typical hectic songs that started getting really overplayed around season 5 or 6. The show also does still use some stock music, but it’s usually newly introduced stock songs that only recently started appearing.
I realize most people probably don’t care too much about this kind of thing but I’ve always found this interesting and a little depressing.

So let me get this straight. There is one Targaryen left in the universe. One dragon left in the universe. The dragon is suppose to be the reincarnation of Balerion, who was a ridden by Aegon. Bran also wants to keep a “close eye” on Drogon? A dragon without a commander is no threat to the realm.
I think I know where the Snow sequel might be going..

Unpopular Opinion: I didn't mind Nicholas. It was actually refreshing to see someone who isn't a survivalist/badass in the zombie apocalypse, who was actually afraid of hordes of zombies. I feel like like it was realistic for his character arc.

The fact this sub doesn't go a week before a new post about Negan being an asshole is a testament to how good the actor and writers were
Virtue signalling is massive on reddit and not a week goes by where some person just has to share with the world that they are not a fan of what Negan did as the leader of the saviours. They're like a cult at this point. It just surprises me that people cannot think to themselves that it's okay to not like the character and move on with their day.
Baiting these people has become sport but let's try not anger the horde here. This is a character and writer appreciation post

Making my 13 year old brother watch The Walking Dead
This kid hasn’t seen much of the walking dead or spoilers, and the stuff he has seen he barely remembers it correctly.
We’re on season 2 episode 4 and so far he loves dale, Carl, rick, and andrea(don’t question it he’s 13 remember) and hates Lori, shane, and Merle lmao. He’s really wondering where tf is Sophia, was pissed it took rick 3 episodes to get his guns from the street, and pissed that Shane killed Otis.
He knows about negan and can’t wait till he appears but he also doesn’t realize that it’s Glenn who dies by negan 😬
He thinks carol is going to die, but thinks Carl, Rick and daryl will survive( he’s gonna be pissed when season 8 rolls around)
He’s also wondering when Morgan and Merle are going to appear again(but he thinks Morgan will die)
And finally he cannot wait until shane dies, like seriously he keeps asking “when is he going to die” “will he die soon”
If anybody is interested in his later opinions as he is somebody who knows jack shit about the show, I’ll make another post for an update in the future.

Felt like we missed out on all of Varys’ disguises in the show?
Reading A Clash of Kings and I love how Varys not only wears disguises a lot of the time when talking to Tyrion but he also ACTS different. Normally he’s described as “giggling” but often when Tyrion and Varys are out on the town Varys has a throaty laugh.
I think in the show Varys sometimes wore disguises but he never acted different. And the disguises I remember weren’t very good — like Tyrion doesn’t even recognise one of Varys’ disguises at first because Varys is dressed like a dirty beggar and he smells. This also lends credence/ truth to Varys surviving on the streets when he was younger, as well as made him more interesting.
I think it’s a bit like that scene from the show but with Pycelle — a prostitute leaves his bedroom and then he suddenly pushes himself off from the bed and paces away. Which is very different to how he is normally doddering along. Same goes with the deleted scene between Pycelle and Tywin.
I’m just really enjoying book Varys and wish they had made him act more in the show!

Generation Kill (2008) is ridiculously underrated & unknown
Basically a Band of Brothers set during the first 40 days of the invasion of Iraq. Based on Ewan Wright's account, a journalist who followed a spearhead unit.
I only just discovered this show & I consider myself a TV & film "buff". I can't believe I'd never heard of this or seen it until just this week.
I've binged it, the action, characters, production & everything else is just top notch. It's the best unknown/underrated series in my opinion.

Tyrion is the main character, as proven by math.
No single character has appeared in every episode of "Game of Thrones" to date. Only three characters, so far, have been in every episode of a given season. Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) and Jack Gleeson (King Joffrey Baratheon) were in every episode of Season 1, and Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) was in every episode of Season 2 and Season 5.

Dr. Phil is just one big advertisement for addiction/mental health clinics, his companies, and those he's invested in.
He doesn't even have an active license to practice psychology.
He just exploits the guests on his show using their hardships and embarrassing family troubles to promote clinics that likely pay to be on the show as well as promoting his own products/those he is invested in.
Those people will never live a normal life again after giving up on privacy and putting it all out there on the show. And for what? Some free help that a clinic is giving them that they will make back ten fold by being on Dr. Phil?
You can't go ten minutes without hearing about some service he's trying to sell you, or his wife's podcast.
I don't even watch the show but I have a family member that has it on constantly and it's fucking annoying so I finally felt the need to rant to someone about it.

That one ridicolous scene from TWD finale what was neverthless fricking awesome
Rosita blasting up with a bat, with a baby surrounded by walkers is by far the most ridiculous, superhero-ish shit I've seen in a show but honestly I didn't even care. The scene is just so awesome, tense and combined with the music in it's own madness. Just really solid, "fighting with everything you got" scene. I'm glad she was bitten tho, brought some realism to the scenario.
Only bad thing I find from this episode is how they just straight up killed all the zombies with one huge explosion. Bit too simple final battle in general.

Tyrion and Shae's story still breaks my heart
I'm rewatching the second season of Game of Thrones right now.
By far the most bittersweet thing about the experience was seeing Tyrion and Shae fall in love again.
I love Tyrion a lot (who doesn't) and Peter Dinklage puts so much effort into showing that losing Shae is his biggest fear. When he eventually does, that's more brutal than any death I remember.
Every scene involving the two just gets me really emotional.

Plants in Bill Maher's audience
Sorry if this is super specific, but I am 100 percent convinced that small handfuls of audience members, like 2-4 people, are being paid to laugh at Bill Maher's show. I like Bill Maher, and I like Real Time, but over the years, and especially after the pandemic, when he had an audience back, it became apparent he was becoming less and less tolerant of people not laughing during the monologue, or god forbid, groaning, and it was affecting his mood. A few weeks ago I began noticing people in the audience laughing really hard over jokes that were, you know, okay. It became even more apparent with this week's episode. There was a woman who was howling throughout the entire hour. And again, nothing was all that side-splittingly funny. I like Bill Maher, but I do think he has very thin skin and it's possible that without his knowledge producers put laughers in the audience so he'd feel more comfortable.

I need to discuss this with people who have watched the show because my mind is blown.
So I’m on season 6 and I just finished episode 5. Hodor (wylis) just died holding the door and the time loop really got me. He basically was just waiting to die his whole life. I can’t even explain the shock and awe I felt the moment it clicked with young hodor writhing on the ground screaming “hold the door!” I need to hear others thoughts and feelings upon watching this because I don’t know anyone irl who watches the show and if I don’t talk about it to someone I feel like I’ll explode.

Genuinely Worried
Is anyone else genuinely worried that GRRM will die before finishing the books? I’m fairly new to the fandom and everyone seems to be super chill about this? Like some people have been invested for years, and they’re not worried? Maybe I’m just an anxious person, but it’s making me nervous. I’ve only watched the shows so far, but I am hesitant to start the books because of this.

Ash v. Evil Dead is Fucking Amazing
I knew of the Evil Dead films when I was younger but didn't know much about them. I saw Evil Dead at a friend's house when I was like 14. I thought, "Weird but not bad".
Took me at least 10 years to see Evil Dead 2. Jolly good fun. I saw Army of Darkness not long after. I wasn't that into the medievalness but I still liked it.
Another 5 years go by and I finally see Ash v Evil Dead. My god I'm loving it. I set out to watch one episode last night and got through 4 before making myself stop.
I rewatched so many scenes and lines from Ash because they had me dying laughing. Bruce Campbells is amazing in this and so far the plot seems solid. It incorporates so new elements while remaining on-brand.
That is all.

Just finished all the seasons
And I really enjoyed all of it honestly. It was a journey that had me at the edge of my seat the entire time and without reading the books I was very satisfied with how the show ended.
I like how they build Daenerys up to be this “breaker of chains” savior of all the people only to have her fall right into what felt like her fathers ways. She watched her friends get murdered by a queen that had her throne, she watched her dragons “children” die right infront of her eyes, after conquering all she did then coming to westeros to have it all fall apart must of been rough on her. She went through alot and thats not justifying her actions but that probably broke her. I like that they showed that she was human and not just some savior that was perfect, in the end she became what she feared in the beginning. I thought it was a very good storyline.
All in all im excited to start reading the books to see the differences, I know alot of people hate season 7/8 but I went in with an open mind and found it to be very enjoyable. I did not want a fairytale ending and I felt I got an ending that really satisfied the journey of watching this show.

Andrew Lincolns acting
Damn it's incredible how well he acts off people. Every facial expression he makes, like you can feel the pain. Each bit of grief he goes through is tugging on your heart at the same time.
When working with the babies (multiple Judith's) he stayed in character so naturally when the baby would decide to do something where he would have to act off it. Made it feel so real and connected to Rick and really gave him and Judith that bond instead of being like cardboard when she would do something.
His last episode, man he worked his ass off to get that to perfection. The CGI wasn't in his favour but he still managed. Seeing Hershel again with Rick, that was beautiful. It's like you could feel Rick's urge and conflict to go join his old family in the afterlife or to continue fighting. Which is why I love that episode.

GOT could have been fine with all the plot points they made in season 8, IF ONLY they’d spend another season or 2 explaining why.
Arya killing the NightKing, Danaerys going mad, even Bran becoming king… all of it could have worked if they properly build up to it and explained it…

Shae's character (in the show)
Prefacing this by saying I [of course] loved most of GOT, particularly the character development, costuming, sets, scenery, writing.
I'm rewatching it now and while so many unanswered questions, storylines left open, plot points that went no where and characters who completely flopped or changed faces more than Jaquen, my ND ass feels like I'm in the minority who were really bothered by Shae's betrayal of Tyrion.
They built her up like she was mysterious, perhaps an assassin, or maybe from a powerful family? Perhaps she had powers we didn't know about just lurking under the surface? But nope. Nothing. It prob actually bothers me more because she wasn't much of a char in the book so what was the point making her a character in the show who appeared fiercely loyal, moralistic, devoted, stubborn, a hard-headed fighter who was obstinate in the face of everyone not caring who they were.
It would have been entirely different if they did all the build up and then we watched Tywin break her at least that would make sense.
Everyone who I've talked GOT with looked at me blankly when I brought her up as one of my top 10 disappointments from the series 😅

[SPOILERS] During your first time watching GoT, what exact scene was the point when you realized that it was going to be a good show?
For me, it was when Ned arrived at King's Landing and realized that there was this whole murder-mystery shadow-corruption investigation that needed to be done, and he was just stumbling upon something that was set into place way before him.

I’m glad the show finally addressed and confirmed that Negan is in fact a rapist. I don’t even wanna hear anyone deny he’s not. Honestly it shouldn’t have taken the show to address it… it was already clear it was all coercion.

Help clarify something to me, is Negan "playing" a character (similar to Ezekiel's King Persona) when he was part of the Saviors?
I never really understood a couple of things. The Negan we see in Here's Negan episode, and to some extent now, is a much more calm and somewhat collected, heck, normal, person.
The Negan during Saviors arc seemed like a fake character almost. He had his leather jacket, the bat, the jokes, the intimidation factor etc. It was like some post-apocalyptic badass overlord.
My question is, was the just still just Negan, or was it him playing along as some god-like leader of the Saviors? The reason this came to my mind is because in a few scenes with Carl, specifically when Carl offers himself to be killed (which was a lie), Negan lets his guard down and almost becomes sad/regrets it and you can see him "break" his badass character.
So yeah, is the Saviors Negan similar to a persona he played along, kinda like King Ezekiel?

I can't believe this show is still so boring and plotless in its last few episodes
Why is there no forward momentum? It's just characters wandering around, getting in vaguely defined battles with zombies and storm troopers, and having long conversations about how hard this new world is, like they have for the past nine seasons.

I don't even care if they're all alive or dead, I really couldn't care less (yes, it's couldn't not could 😝) but I just want to KNOW either way! I do not understand why they ended on that cliffhanger only to make the fate of Oceanside a big reveal that takes many episodes to be revealed. Why not have it play a role in the story? Why not just open episode 17 with a montage of Oceanside massacred? It's so fucking pointless! There's 3 EPISODES LEFT and we're still here wondering what happened to Oceanside?!

I’m disgusted with Aegon
I know everyone is talking about the foot fetish, but I can’t stop thinking about the kids. Filing nails and teeth, the blood, his own child chained, it’s all just so evil.
In the books after Viserys died they found Aegon in a brothel with a 12 year old giving him head. I always knew he was a degenerate, and when the madam at the brothel in today’s episode said he prefers places with less discrimination I assumed that’s what she meant.
And it’s horrible to have a character coerce and force children to provide sexual favors, but this cage fighting just took it to a completely new level.
I’m actually disgusted with him. He’s entirely irredeemable in my eyes. I think that’s probably one of the worst and uncomfortable scenes I’ve ever seen in the GOT universe.
The second most uncomfortable scene was Meryn Trant in Bravos beating those young girls in the brothel and forcing himself on them before Arya killed him.

Season 1 was ONLY six episodes, and yet one of the most memorable ones. Blew my mind!
Was just looking back at my Season 1 Blu ray and was taken aback by how short it is. The whole season wraps up in six episodes. And still manages to be one of the best storytelling.

Superstore is one of the last series I could say was consistently funny from episode 1 to the series finale. I have no clue how this show doesn't get put on the same level as the Office, Parks and Rec, etc.
I started binging the show about a year ago and right away not only is the show relatable, but the humor gets you hooked. Amazing characters, hilarious storylines, and jokes are so organic and a breath of fresh air for this type of genre. Last season was bitter sweet since America Fearrira left, but overally one of the funnier comedic series of the 2010s and definitely something people should check out if you're into binging shows.

Is Ridiculousness the ONLY thing on MTV now?
Switched ISPs and ended up going with a cable package (spectrum) and while just casually channel flipping for the past few days - I haven’t had actual cable since moving out of my parents house after hs like 15 years ago - and noticed that every time I go past mtv (it’s sandwiched between most of the sports channels for some reason) it’s always Rob Dyrdek and this show. Did I miss something? I mean obviously mtv hasn’t really aired anything remotely decent in a loooooong time, but do they legitimately just show this one show all day and that’s it?! I’m genuinely confused and curious.

Rick is such a badass
On my first ever rewatch and I LOVE the scene where they're gathered around the campfire post farm. "THIS IS NOT A DEMOCRACY ANYMORE"
On the first watch I was definitely bored with s2 and on the rewatch, it's still slow but does a ton for character development. Rick basically spent all of s2 pussy footing around, but then Shane's death finally makes the path clear for him again.
Can't wait till he bites that one guys ear off later

TWD essay ideas
Hey I’m writing an essay for my English class and I’m wanting to write it on the walking dead.
I had one idea of “How TWD changed the horror/zombie genre” but I don’t know if it’s any good.
Has anyone got any ideas for anything I can do?

Andor has been surprisingly good so far
After the disappointment of Book of Boba fett and Kenobi Andor feels like a breath of fresh air.
Its very well written which is no surprise because it is helmed by the likes of Tony Gilroy (Bourne Trilogy, Miachel Clayton) and Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler, Velvet Buzzsaw).
The production value and the way its shot is also massive improvement over the other D+ shows.
It isn't only a good star wars show it feels like a good show in general. I never felt like I am watching Star wars it felt more like a prestige HBO drama.
