Let's be honest - Fear was always poorly written

Just not as poorly as in Season 4 (with the single exception of John's bottle episode). Always a lot of plot holes, unrealistic actions, and deus ex machinas by the dozen. At least the ranch was interesting, even though poorly handled by the writers. I guess you could say that S1-S3 generally had great concepts, even if poorly executed. S4 has both poor concepts and poor execution.

Thoughts on the Chicanery Monologue

Rewatching the scene right now and something has always stood out to me that I don’t see mentioned a whole lot. Right before Chuck has his full melt down, his attorney tries one last ditch effort to get the whole mental illness aspect thrown out as a non-issue. The poor guy then tries to help the situation by making a comparison between Chuck and a schizophrenic person. It is at this moment, when the person hired to HELP Chuck in this environment starts comparing him to a schizophrenic person as a method of argument that Chuck really loses it. I’d love to see the script and whether or not Michael McKean’s brief, insulted shout of “schizo-?” was improvised or not. I doubt it was, but it’s such a wonderful little moment that that was the final final tipping point for him and it’s delivered beautifully by McKean.

Compare me to the insane as a way of helping me? Let’s shut that down right now. I am not crazy.

How can Breaking Bad be in the same place as TWD?

AMC confirms that Breaking Bad and TWD happen in the same place but the idea of zombies doesn't even exist before the apocalypse happens hence why they're not called zombies but they're called walkers or geeks and stuff like that. But in season 4 episode 2 of breaking bad, they talk about zombies like in call of duty and resident evil. So how can they happen in the same place but the word zombie exists in breaking bad and not in TWD?

Minor Tuco Detail

This may have been mentioned here I'm not sure. I recently got my mom (HUUUuuge BB fan) to start watching BCS. The first thing she noticed about Tuco in BCS is that he no longer has his teeth capped. In BB his teeth had very prominent caps that almost seem exaggerated and in BCS he has all his teeth unaffected. This is a detail I missed and was just astonished by how much detail was put into the time gap between shows. Tucos meth use has not messed his teeth up that much yet. I apologize for the wording/orded/usage in this post. I am drunk. Let me know if anyone else noticed this.

Are the Knights of the Vale some elite force? Does the Vale not have regular foot soldiers? Rewatching the show I just noticed that they seem to be held up as a significant military force. It doesn't seem like a mountain fortress with only one road up would value mounted soldiers.

Jesse and Mike (BB Spoilers)

Rewatching Breaking Bad and Mike initially has to baby sit Jesse but ends up taking him under his wing.

With the back story about Matty, it’s kind of sweet how Mike takes on this almost father figure role trying to look out for Jesse and watch his back.

I think that’s pretty cool for a prequel to color in detail that enhances the original in a way you wouldn’t expect or weren’t looking for. Like, it’s not just a one to one “here’s where Saul’s ring came from”, although those are cool as well.

Frustrating Thing on FTWD re-watch

Bored on a Friday afternoon I decided to binge Fear the Walking Dead's first season. While it was better on consecutive binges than I remembered on TV, it was still baffling and still a disappointing missed opportunity. I was excited to see the outbreak Shane described but got something else altogether.

FTWD decided to make the unusual decision of keeping the characters/public at large in the dark of what's happening. They make a point to show that no one is talking about what's going on. But they do this while establishing local doctors being aware and the release of a World Health Organization memo detailing the crisis, the WHO isn't exactly the CIA. And between the internet and national news media, there's no way this wouldn't be everywhere. Instead for days we hear nothing from the larger world, no White House briefings, no chatter from the scientific community, no pressure for answers. It just kind of passively happens with little to no visible societal impacts, we go from a few isolated outbreaks to total apocalypse in a finger snap.

You're going to laugh how I found this out, but people kept making Jenna Elfman jokes and I was out of the loop (apparently she blocks people who are too negative). Decided to check out Twitter to see what was going on, and saw this recent post of hers:

Our upcoming episode that will air this Sunday night, was exceptionally fulfilling to film. Getting to continue to play June’s intense array of emotions, being directed by @colmandomingo… https://www.instagram.com/p/BnIPRYJlwzM/

IMDB confirms Colman Domingo is making his directorial debut:

I'd like to think Colman Domingo directed this episode with a wine bottle in one hand ('61 is better than '65), laughing heartily after each swig.

Better Call Saul, the Sorites Paradox, and The Ship of Theseus

Earlier today, u/MadameIronMouse, put up a great post that got me to thinking.

Jimmy's transformation into Saul is an interesting take on Sorites Paradox in philosophy. I'm by no means a philosophy expert.... I just enjoy learning and exploring the implications.

The way I understand the paradox, it deals with the idea of boundaries with the famous example: when does a grouping of objects become a heap (or pile, etc.). Here's a succinct explanation I saw on the interwebs:

The Paradox (restated)

Suppose that you have a full head of hair. That means that you probably have around 100,000 individual hairs. Now pull one of them out. Does that make you bald? Of course not. A single hair doesn’t make any difference. 99,999 hairs still make a full head of hair. If you carry on long enough, you will have none left and you will definitely be bald. You have moved from a state of unquestionable non-baldness to a state of unquestionable baldness by taking a series of steps that can never on their own have that effect. But when did the change come about?

...

The (Original) Paradox

1 grain of sand does not make a heap.
If 1 grain does not make a heap, then 2 grains do not.
If 2 grains do not make a heap, then 3 grains do not.
[and so on until … ]
If 99,999 grains do not make a heap, then 100,000 grains do not.
So 100,000 grains of sand do not make a heap.
But at some point we will acknowledge that we do in fact have a heap of sand!

So with Jimmy: when do his accumulated actions make him Saul?

The thought-experiment proposed by the paradox illustrates the vague boundaries of classification. We can see Jimmy and we can see a later version of him that is Saul, but it is difficult to discern when the transformation occurs.

Another cool thought-experiment that deals with this issue is The Ship of Theseus. A ship is replaced one peace at a time over 1000 years and the question is: once all of the pieces are replaced, is it still the "Ship of Theseus." If it is no longer the "Ship of Theseus" when did it stop being so? If it still is the "Ship of Theseus" what is it that makes this so?

TL;DR: Philosophical Paradoxes such as Sorites Paradox and the Ship of Theseus provide an interesting lens through which we can view the transformation from Jimmy to Saul on BCS.

[Fan Speculation] Is Andrew Lincoln really over with Rick Grimes?

It's been "confirmed" that [The Walking Dead] Season 9 will be the last occurence of Rick Grimes as of Andrew Lincoln himself. He will be leaving the show for the reasons:

A.) Carl's death - Rick Grimes losing his last fuel to live B.) Andrew Lincoln wants to be with his family in UK.

BUT IS IT REALLY OVER FOR RICK GRIMES? Here are some points that may prove on how ANDREW LINCOLN is FAR FROM OVER with RICK GRIMES.

  1. Morgan

At last, [some] fans' outcry on wanting a direct connection for the two zombie shows happened. Morgan's "literal" crossover with the two shows is quite hilarious and forced, but yeah atleast it happened. As we recap, when the "crossover character" was teased, everyone's speculating that it would be Abraham, a fan favorite until Negan "lucilled" him that lead to his death. With the tease that [Fear the Walking Dead] Season 4 will be filmed in Texas, knowing Abe came there, and with his tweets back then, sounding like he'll "return" was hyped, BUT it never happened [points for the TWD marketing team]. The first point here is Morgan's run to the spin-off show was FORCED and maybe FOR A REASON.

  1. Fear the Walking Dead

The spin-off show received negative reviews for the first two seasons as we all know. But got REVAMPED in Season 3, one of the best seasons on the overall "The Walking Dead" franchise. And recently, the entrance of Morgan in the picture plus the pack of new characters introduced, and will be introduced, came with the death of some of the old original characters, Nick and Madison. Of course, rants about those deaths happened, losing the core cast who were the main focus of the spin-off. Then, with the current episodes, Morgan has been murmuring about bringing them to Virginia, FOR A FRESH START after the heavy deaths.

It seems like TWD planned it to put Morgan on Fear TWD to FINALLY merge the two shows. But, how is it gonna save Rick Grimes??

  1. Scott Gimple

The most hated man on the TWD franchise, yes, that man. He just got promoted as the overall grandmaster of the entire TWD franchise. And he teased of expanding the franchise in different ways. Maybe a movie? Another video game? Another webisode? Or another spin-off? Anthology? All is possible.

  1. The Alien

On that note, we'll go back on how they might save Rick Grimes from totally waving his final goodbyes on TV. Two years ago, a 32-page one-shot comic was released for free. The story revolves on a guy who lives in Spain and were on its first days of the apocalypse. That guy is Jeffrey Grimes, YES, Rick's brother. Although in the comics, he died and only his companion, Claudia survived on a boat. They could use that storyline and make a TWD franchise outside US, a British Walking Dead? But how could he get there?

  1. The Helicopter

They've been teasing us with that HELICOPTER for so long. Still, no clear narrative of whom or whose [helicopter] has been watching Rick Grimes. Maybe, this will be TWD's only way out on taking Andrew Lincoln to UK with his family, without losing Rick Grimes on the TV franchise. Win win?

To SUMMARiZE, they brought Morgan to Fear TWD to keep the useful characters there and bring them to the original show [TWD] and END the spin-off [Fear TWD]. With the end of Fear TWD, a new spin-off will commence, with Rick Grimes as the lead that is based in UK. That's all.

[FUTURE SPOILERS] Who's gonna release the kraken?

So TSDF already announced that he's getting out around episodes 7 or 8 since they said he was already in the woods in episode 8.

Magna's group should arrive in episode 6 and we saw in the trailer her sneaking in a building on night time (maybe the same one where is Negan's basement) .

So are they gonna remix the comic story with her getting tricked by him leading to Negan escaping. I don't know how to feel about that since in the comics she's not getting fooled by Negan. We kinda want to root for her not know that she lets Negan out, also she would have beef with Michonne and Daryl.

Other options would be Arat since they already said she's gonna die too or Justin (the evil still Negan Savior as the info said, the one how got beat up by Daryl). I guess those two could get him out if they are remixing the fair with Carol and Ezekiel's wedding in Alexandria ...everybody is invited but one of these two got other plans.

What do you guys think? Thanks for reading!

Aside from being a complete psychopath, Gus really was kind of a chill and cool manager to have at Los Pollos

I mean I'm sure working there wasn't anything flashy or spectacular. But it's several steps above any McDonald's or Burger King simply because of both the employees and the manager, Gus. He always took time to keep the place looking nice and clean, took out the trash, helped out in the kitchen if they were short-handed, and was usually friendly with customers. Even when Jimmy "accidentally" dropped his watch in the trash, he was just like "Let me get it for you". What a nice guy.

A psycho, but nice enough if you didn't double-cross him

Gus’ share of the blame in the failed Walt/Gus operation

I used to completely blame Walt for the breakdown of the setup with Gus. His paranoia and ego ruined what could have been such a lucrative set up for everyone. I would get upset just watching the end of season 4 cause of how dense Walt was acting. But during a recent rewatch of the series, I realize Gus could’ve managed the situation easier from the start. The same way he gave Jessie meaning through pairing him with Mike, he could’ve managed Walt by assuaging his concerns, preventing him from going full paranoia. In management theory terms, he needed to understand that what motivated Walt more than money was pride and ego, then made sure this was fostered. “Walt, this is Gayle, he will be taking over for you when you pass away or retire” something like that would have gone a long way. His refusal to even see Walt was a huge part of the breakdown

This is my third time watching the series and this thought just hit me. This show’s characters are so complex I see something new each time I watch it, and that’s why I love it. This thought is probably well established elsewhere but I just got to it this time around.

Remember when people thought the crossover was going to be Abraham?

That way, there wouldn't have had to be a time jump. Abe could interact with Fear for like, 7 or 8 episodes before eventually heading east. And after that, the Fear crew could go their own way. What is Morgan now, a recruiter for Alexandria?

If you're waiting for a cataclysmic "incident" that turns Jimmy into Saul, you haven't been paying attention.

Much has been said (both positive and negative) about the show's deliberate, methodical pacing. While it mostly amounts to an aesthetic choice, it also contributes to one of the show's primary themes: in the real world, personal change is neither rapid nor linear. It proceeds slowly, erratically, oftentimes silently. It goes back and forth, like a pendulum, with our accumulated internal decay escaping our notice until, perhaps, it is too late.

Take the ending of season 3. In a more traditional story, Jimmy's moral decline would have been fully solidified by then, with the show possessing more than enough narrative justification to push Jimmy over the edge. And yet, he commits an act of pure selflessness, by mending the relationships he'd splintered at the nursing home. This was when the show achieved superiority over Breaking Bad, in my eyes: convenience and contrivance were thrown away to provide a realistic, layered portrait of a genuine human being, whose regressions are sometimes accompanied by his best moments.

Which brings me to my main point. If you're waiting for the show to give Jimmy his equivalent of the "you have lung cancer" bombshell, to give him a clear-cut catalyst for his full descent into amorality, you haven't been paying attention. The entirety of this multi-season slow-burn would become irrelevant and redundant, if his transformation gets reduced to a single inciting incident.

That's why Breaking Bad started off with such a dramatic reveal, instead of saving it for the fourth or fifth season. Imagine if that show had instead been about the slow corruption of a public school teacher, whose mounting frustrations gradually feed into his darker impulses, only to give him the lung cancer diagnosis late into the narrative's run. Assuming this would then play out as it did in BB, the twist would feel cheap, easy, and almost like a betrayal. So too would a simple "Kim dies" explanation, or any other assorted random tragedy, in the context of Better Call Saul.

Kim may well die, or become a drug addict, or become Wendy (no). Anything may happen, but the question is, what will the impact be? How will it be depicted in light of Jimmy's overall development? It won't lead to a hyper-acceleration in his arc. It will be yet another piece in the slowly-unfolding puzzle, one that we might not be able to see in its full scope until we take a step back and see Saul Goodman where Jimmy once stood, without us knowing precisely how we got there.

When do we think was the actual point Walt became Heisenberg?

A shit ton of posts in this sub are about which moment made Walt turn into Heisenberg, but which one? Most people say it’s the “I am the danger” speech, or when he ran over the drug dealers to save Jesse. Honestly I’d say it was when he was walking away when he just blew up Tuco’s place, I mean it’s hard for him to do that and not think to himself “Don’t mess with me”

What after the fear and The walking dead? How about...

I just hope that when these shows eventually die it leaves a void where a franchise like 28 days later can come in and blow our minds by coming to television.

I would love so much for that to happen, it would be a breath of fresh air from the slow paced story telling that we have come accustomed too.

I feel like a 28 days later series would be incredibly intense and gripping, just explosive, How I yearn for this series of events to take place. Just keep Gimple away from it. Get Danny Boyle back in the hot seat, have it set in merry old London and not put a shoddy filter over it.

Would you be down to see a 28 days later show on TV?

[SPOILERS] That S4E4 opening scene...

The opening scene of Mike building a carport is a memory that Stacey tells Mike about in S3E6. When Stacey tells Mike that she volunteered him to help build the Church’s playground he asks why him, she says that he has experience pouring concrete, that Matty told the story multiple times of Pops getting overpriced quotes from contractors and that he decided to do it himself, that he even let him write his initials in wet cement. “Pop, the way he talked about you, it was like you hung the moon”.

That’s a very special memory that Mike finds out Matty had of him.

I think get how Gus figured out the pills/Mike connection.

It was driving me crazy, but I think I got it.

It's simple. Gus didn't know for sure Mike knew about it. What he did know is that Nacho and Mike had dealings in the past due to the trackers. Gus knew Mike would have to answer honestly because he could just threaten Nacho and get the info himself (because Gus hinted to Mike that he busted Nacho) thus turning Mike into a liar.

It makes perfect sense. It is possible that Gus already had Nacho spill the info to him, but I think the above scenario is what actually went down.

[Contest] You can now enter our simplified S8 deadpool! (with prizes)

TL;DR: We have a deadpool. It's a very simple one – you pick alive/undead/dead. You can win prizes. Enter before leaks if you want them.

It's inevitable that there will be some major leaks prior to season eight (and some stuff is already known, to be fair). So, in an attempt to get at least a little ahead of the game and give people some off-season fun, we've created a deadpool.

This is a really simplified version – no odds or anything, just picking alive/dead/undead for a bunch of characters.

Rules:

  1. If a character is not mentioned in any way, they are assumed to have ended the season alive
  2. If there is a time jump for an epilogue (e.g. Jon dying of old age), it will be excluded
  3. Your account must have joined Reddit at least three months ago

Prizes

We're being a little vague on prizes just now, because it'll depend on how many people enter – but at least the winner will get some Reddit gold be able to choose something from the prize pool – here's a link to a pic showing the pool. They might end up getting more, more people might up getting prizes, we'll see – it's about the honour of winning above all though, isn't it?

Deadline

We'd recommend getting in quickly. When news of character deaths starts leaking, we'll start considering whether to shut the deadpool. While we'll keep it open for entries, those who enter after that won't be able to win a prize.

Other stuff

At some point we'll post the pie charts of people's predictions – just to give an idea of what the prevailing view on the sub is for the fate of characters! And if anyone wants a formatted copy of their entry, get in touch with myself/through modmail and we'll send that over.

CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE YOUR ENTRY – GOOD LUCK, GREENSEERS

ps. While you do have to sign in to Google to enter, we can't see your email

pss. here's who you're up against

I read a lot of your comments about Ep 11. Can't be that bad. No way. These people are hyper critical.
No.
You were right.
What a shit episode. Is this "Fear the Morgan Dead"? Dafuq. I have no problem with M coming back to TWD...but did we need this? I thought this was FTWD? Aliciya and Strand and those people. Wtf was this?
I would have been fine with a 5 minute sequence of M just walking away and showing up in TWD. Sigh ...
Ok so we have this (crap).
Why didn't M just tell them where to go? He thinks Rick, Daryl and Carol are in trouble from these 2 fucks? I'd bring em right to Rick.
And the beer guy .. did they give this dude a bath? How did he go from disheveled to perfectly coifed? My hair doesn't do that.
Would you spend HOURS on top of a truck before trying SOMETHING? ANYTHING?
So is this the beginning of a new series???

[SPOILERS] What happens to Rick

We will see the herd is massive and they're on all sides. Rick is trapped. The camera zooms in on Rick and he begins to flicker. For a split second, he looks like Heath, then like Rick again. The camera zooms out as the herd closes in on Rick.

Cool as a cucumber, Rick flickers and becomes Heath again, then he's Rick again, then Heath, and now he's Rick, and then in a flash he disappears completely. The camera zooms out. Walkers everywhere.

The camera keeps zooming out and you can see a helicopter with an A on it overhead. The helicopter begins to flicker a little and for a split second it looks like Rick, then it's a helicopter again. The helicopter flies off into the sunset.

The episode ends with a close up face montage of crying Daryl and Tara.

Am I missing something or is this a major plot hole?

Tara's weight has seemed to increase so much despite food apparently becoming increasingly sparse.

Here in season 4 where she was first introduced you can see she's a relatively normal weight with just some extra pounds. Kind of odd for the apocalypse but she'd apparently been staying in the apartment and so got less physical activity, in which case it makes sense.

In season 5 however it's clear she's gained a substantial amount of weight, despite the group being on the move for much of this season. See here. How is it possible in the zombie apocalypse that as food becomes increasingly hard to come by, she gains more weight?

The trend continues onwards into season 6 where she seems to be borderline obese. Same for seasons 7 and 8 [1] [2] [3].

I'm sorry if it's been delved upon in the show already, but can someone please explain this to me? I don't recall but has it like been shown that there's a secret stash of food she's hidden from the rest of the group? Will this be a possible source of conflict in the future if the rest discover her habit of hoarding resources? It's confusing because none of the characters have acknowledged this in the show as far as I know.

Is it just me, or is it a bad idea to introduce the idea of Morgan going back this early?

Morgan talking about going back to Alexandria, and wanting to take the FTWD characters with him, sort of feels like when the masked hero reveals his identity too early in the movie.

Since they announced Morgan was going over to FTWD, people instantly started speculating that this was to merge the two shows. Then literally 9 episodes in and Morgan starts trying to convince the gang to go back with him. Like dude, let's at least test the waters here for a while before dropping that bomb. I mean, no hints, no dancing around the idea. Nope, just have Morgan flat out tell everybody he wants to go back, in the 9th episode.

They should have at least left that for the season finale, let us simmer on it over the break and during s9. Tease us with it, don't just slap us in the face with it.

How can $&&:&3$3 live and be gone for so many years?

Rick would have to be incapacitated to some degree. How could rick be assumed to be dead yet make it out alive?

We watch rick get bit in the arm. He goes on to draw away the herd. We find his dead horse and nothing else.( maybe a pool of blood and/or a blood trail.

What if rick is found and his arm is immediately chopped off and due to the herd the helicopter turns around and defies to leave either because it’s too dangerous to land or they think there is no point in staying when there are apparently still so many dead lurking in the region and the groups haven’t advanced far enough for their liking. They theoretically take rick because of his heroic actions.

They take him across country and either put him to work or refuse to aid him until he meets a quota and with only one hand and no supplies his hands are tied....or maybe they provide him with updates about his community but reuse to let them know about rick since they aren’t ready to let people know where they are?

[SPOILERS] Cersei theory S8

While watching a YouTube video I read a theory:

Roose Bolton died by being stabbed in the chest in the same way as Robb Stark. Walder Frey died by having his throat cut the same way they killed Catelyn. Robb Stark, Catelyn Stark and there is 1 stark left, Talisa. Talisa died by being stabbed in the stomach while pregnant. 3 Houses arranged the Red Wedding, Bolton, Frey and Lannister.

1.House Frey: Walder Frey 2.House Bolton: Roose Bolton 3.House Lannisters: Cercei Lannister dying by a stab in the stomach while pregnant would mirror Talisa Stark.

I actually believe this theory and it is very GoT like. Euron, being the younger brother, is my best guess. Not Jaime because I doubt he would kill a pregnant woman, neither Arya, but Euron wouldn't have any problem with that.

Half Measures (Season 3 Ep 12)

I’m on my 3rd viewing of the show. The last was a couple of years ago. You know how it ends and the big moments but you forget the details and it makes it very well worth watching again. I should note this is my favorite show of all time, like....ever. Bitch!

So it’s been a great stroll down memory lane but tonight I just finished this episode. At the end (spoilers ahead), just as Jesse is about to (most likely) get himself killed after getting coked up and deciding to exact vengeance on Gus’ street dealers for killing the kid, Walt speeds onto the scene and runs them over. As Jesse stands in shock and disbelief, Walt gets out of his car and grabs one of the dealer’s guns and puts a cap in his head. He then looks up at Jesse with absolute authority and tells him “Run”.

For me, this is the pinnacle moment when Walt first fully encompasses the Heisenberg persona. He is an absolute badass in this moment. We can discuss his motives. I believe they’re two-fold. Primarily, I believe he truly cares about Jesse and knew what would Jesse would do. Given Jesse’s track record with poor decisions, Walt knows if he doesn’t intervene, Jesse will most likely get himself killed and Walt doesn’t want that to happen. Also, Walt knows if he doesn’t intervene and Jesse actually succeeds, then Gus will have Jesse killed. That could also lead to complications for Walt’s contract with Gus and may even result in them taking Walt out, as well. You could say that would be the secondary motivation.

At any rate, that was the most powerful moment for Walt in the show up to that point. What do you think?

Why does Walt have poo bags even though he doesn't have a dog?

I'm rewatching the show and, towards the end of episode 4 of season 2, Walt puts Jesse's money in a poo bag like you'd bring with you when walking a dog. Why does he have those? Do people use them for other reasons?

Can walkers be cloned? This is a science question involving walkers.

Simple scenario: you’re a scientist in TWD, and in this universe human cloning was 100% possible.

You encounter a walker and manage to obtain physical material (hair or rotted skin) You decide to use the walker’s skin as base genetic material for a new human clone of the Walker. While the walker is dead, it still has human DNA, right?

Will this result in a functioning human clone of the walker, or would it be a walker clone, or would the cloning experiment not even work?

[Spoilers] He bent the knee

Specific to the show, Jon’s character development gets overlooked I think, because he is a standard good lookin’ good guy. Thing is, he was murdered for doing the right thing, and as you might expect that shook him to his core. I think Kit Harrington did a fine job of portraying that uncertainty following his resurrection. The last few episodes of season 7 demonstrated Jon finding his footing again, by identifying himself repeatedly as his father’s son. His real father, Ned Stark. He declared his allegiance to his father’s values and worldview in the dragon pit and again when telling Theon to man up and save his sister.

Jon will not take the throne while Daenerys lives. He bent the knee and declared it to everyone. Finding out that he is the legal heir to the throne will make no difference to him.: “When enough people make false promises, words stop meaning anything. Then there are no more answers, only better and better lies”.

Who is Saul Goodman? - S04E04 Analysis

What separates Jimmy McGill from Saul Goodman? The answer to this becomes clear near the end of Season 4, Episode 4 - "Talk."

Jimmy meets Ira, who mentions that he uses a new cell phone for every job. Jimmy then has a flash of inspiration, so he returns to CC Mobile and paints on the glass:

"IS THE MAN LISTENING? PRIVACY SOLD HERE"

This may seem like just another clever scheme, which it certainly is. But it is more than that.

Jimmy deliberately decides to market his services to criminals, in particular. Yes, he has already passively found himself helping some bad guys through legal jams. However, his CC Mobile move is perhaps the first time he deliberately set out to aid lawbreakers.

He now has the specific aim to help criminals evade detection. This gets to the root difference between Jimmy McGill and Saul Goodman.

Who is Jimmy McGill? He is a criminal, a thief, con-artist, you name it.

Who is Saul Goodman? He is a consultant for criminals.

When Jimmy chooses to market his services to criminals, he takes one leap closer to becoming Saul Goodman. He will settle his identity crisis when he successfully combines the resourcefulness of Slippin' Jimmy with the risk-reducing detachment of a lawyer.

As a lawyer who is primarily a resource for criminals, he can have all the fun and stimulation of scheming, lawbreaking, and getting away with it, but with substantially less risk.

No more lame legal gigs like Sandpiper, in which he pretends to be something he is not. Rather than leave Slippin' Jimmy behind, Jimmy will mature into Saul: an expert advisor for others who are even dirtier than he is.

Look at this scene when Saul casually bumps into Hank. He is not exactly the Jimmy we know. Saul acts bullet-proof, confident, and unapologetic. That's because the law can't take him down. They can try to take down his clients (often unsuccessfully), but he feels nearly untouchable.

Think about the typical scenes from Breaking Bad in which Walt and Jesse meet with Saul. Doesn't he typically give forth a "wise counsel" vibe? That's the whole point of his name, which refers to the phrase, "It's all good, man," and his slogan, "Better Call Saul!"

Recall the scene in which Jesse first suggests that he and Walt hire Saul. Jesse sees Saul as a guru who can expertly defend and aid criminals, and even calls him a "criminal lawyer."

Saul is not a criminal, per se, but he can help others become better criminals. Saul is their buffer from the law. Yes, he was already heading down this road, but I don't think he was conscious of this trajectory until now.

When he learned about Ira's cell phone habits, he explicitly realized that there is an art and science to lawbreaking, which he will become expert in. Watch as Saul explains money laundering to Jesse. He practically sounds like an engineer.

Just wait until he gets that legal license back.

Is [actor] REALLY leaving for good?

I mean, I understand that Andrew Lincoln has family outside of the show, but I am often wondering if this is completely over for AL/Rick Grimes. Sure, he has family... but if he really wanted to make it work, I am sure he could make it work, whether that be not appearing as a regular as much (meaning more time with his family), or moving more family members here for filming, etc.

What do you guys think? What if he is just taking a long break until like S10?

He DID mention that he is keeping one eye on the script, so I am thinking that he is waiting to see if the writing improves to make an absolute final decision for the show? Especially since Gimple is no longer in charge of writing (Kang will be the writer).

I'm probably just in denial, but there's still so much left for Rick that I can't see them completely killing off the character, at least. The best course of action, I think, is to leave the character's whereabouts unknown, because SO much could be done with it. Maybe end the show after S11 or something, where Rick contained the cure? Maybe make it so that people at the commonwealth kept him against his will, hence why we didn't see him for like an entire season?

What do you guys think? Is he done for good, or do you think we'll see Rick back in action after S9 (not as a walker/flashback)?

THEE Only Way the Show Can be Saved!

Each future episode revolves around Charlie the Psychopath (CtP) killing off all the surviving main characters, hunting them down one by one, stupidly convincing each to spare her life, which then results in Charlie finding some imaginative way to off them.

She can start first with the now stupid Morgan character, closely followed by Jenna Elfman and the 2 dumbass truckers. John Dorie is absolutely saved for last.

THE IRONIC TWIST: Throughout these seek-to-kill missions Charlie does not kill one walker!

During a March 2019 appearance on, "The Talking Dead", Gimple explains:

"Well who doesn't like a little psychotic murderer? Plus we are totally destroying that trope by using a teenage female character. The millions of dollars we save each week by killing off another established character will generate hundreds of social media arguments. Next year we might even introduce aliens, Bigfoot, vampires, or military androids to round out the story."

"Just think of the possibilities!"

I'd actually watch a psycho murder machine Charlie over the shitshow on now.

Can I get some help from the OG fans?

So after Alicia's last episode I realised that I'm very invested in her character and I would like to do little throwback.

I watched the first 3 seasons of Fear after the Morgan crossover was announced in 1 week and now I'm very sorry since I didn't invested more time in the first 3 seasons.

Can someone suggest a list of 12 best Alicia episodes from the first 3 seasons (I don't mind some extra episodes from season 3, Troy was my favorite) since the only one I remember was the one from 3B when she was in that basement with the rest of the community. I have a few free days and I would really like to do a marathon focused only on her.

Thanks you so much!

Holy shit!!!!

I did not know this existed until yesterday! It is a 45-minute animated video that depicts the history of Westeros, including Valyria, Aegon's Conquest, the Children, and Robert's Rebellion. [SPOILERS] A great Storyline everyone often forgets is Stannis Baratheons time in the North in Season 5

Yes, Season 5 has some troubling bullshit in it. Dorne is like, really bad, the Sansa & Ramsey stuff isn't really compelling, and even Arya, who had some of the most interesting character interactions in S1-4 is quite boring.

But, Stannis time in the North is really great and often over looked.

It was great seeing a character we have seen so long in the South, being in the North and interacting with other characters.

I found the stuff with Mance really great (though he got burned), some of the Jon stuff was also very interesting and it brought characters like Davos & Melisandre closer to the actual plot and storyline (that was about to happen in later seasons).

It's such a shame that he got wasted after that, I mean, really wasted. Like randomly some Ramsey guys burn all of his resources, he gets desperate, burns his daughter, and then loses an off screen battle. Like, what?

Walt's Handwriting - tiny detail

A tiny (tiny, tiny) detail I haven't seen mentioned here before.

Walt's handwriting (which seems to be Bryan Cranston's own) is kept consistent throughout the show.

This might seem like a redundant post because it's actually just the actor, but you'd be surprised by how many shows mess this up by using hand models and extras for close-ups of writing, or when the actual act of writing isn't seen but his notes are they get some guy from the prop department to do it.

But not Breaking Bad. Whether he's writing on the white board at school, making his pro/con list for Krazy 8, or even in the note Jesse finds of his old homework (RiDiCULOUS APPLY YOURSELF), it's always the same.

It's also relevant because he actually writes quite bizarrely. He writes mainly in capitals but with lowercase "i"s. I find this is pretty signifcant because there's some studies I've heard of that suggest more creative people (or creative geniuses) often have bad handwriting.

You see it as a comedy and morgan is the most incompetent yet lucky survivor in wd history. Sure his son died but he doesnt even seem to remember that.

He breaks basic rules of sense and survival and pulls through time and time again. Its like a comedy of errors! Its terrible writing but just this change of perspective helps. Competent survivors like Nick and Maddison die, yet morgan has bungled his way through two shows.

This board is a joke.

I can't even fathom all the whining about this season

  • The show has been a slow burn since season 1. And its moving at a faster pace now than all 3 seasons before

  • The shoot out wasn't realistic. Oh I'm sorry I had no idea people could cut the power with balloons before taking out 4 cartel guys alone. It's called dramatic license. Pretty sure there isn't some real guy with a super meth lab running a chicken restaurant either.

Or maybe a guy poisoning the entire cartel with a bottle of alcohol.

This show has been brilliant from the start. We're lucky to even have such a well detailed show going. But no, let's fuck it all up by whining.

Go watch The Walking Dead if this isn't for you, at least you'll have something real to complain about.

If you think the plot of the show is moving slow...

You should feel happy this season wasn't directed by David Lynch. Guy would've probably set Jimmy's entire story inside of the CC Mobile store throwing that ball against the window.

Fans of Twin Peaks The Return will hopefully understand what I'm getting at.

Also, as a disclaimer, I don't actually care whether people find it slow or not slow. I get it. People like different things. Still, if you want some perspective just for fun I recommend watching Dale Cooper's character progression in the new Twin Peaks series and I guarantee the pacing of BCS will feel like it's moving at light speed in comparison.

Are The Salamanca Twins Done On BCS?

When Nacho is talking to Gus, he says the Salamanca brothers "Went south until the heat dies down." Recall when we first see them in Breaking Bad, they are in Mexico and are summoned north to avenge Tuco.

Does this mean they stay in Mexico from now until Breaking Bad starts? If so, that kinda sucks because I love those dudes. But when you get down to it, we're rapidly reaching the end of the rope in Better Call Saul, especially if next season is the last one (not confirmed, I know), so pieces need to start falling into place for where they are when Breaking Bad starts.

Still, I believe Better Call Saul is currently in the year 2003, so if the twins stay in Mexico for 5 years, that's a helluva long time to "wait for the heat to die down".

[SPOILERS] Is Tyrion actually betraying Dany or are his Season 7 "plans"/"ideas" just shitty?

After finishing Season 7 last week I've read a few theories that Tyrion might actually betray Daenerys? I don't see why he would do that but considering all his "plans" in Season 7 have basically failed (Dornish and Ironborn murdered, same with Olenna, then Viserion dies thanks to his stupid plan of getting a White Walker for Cersei, and then he makes everyone think Cersei is actually helping them when she clearly has no intention and actually plans to stab all of them in the back as soon as they march against the White Walkers). So maybe it was all on purpose? Or maybe it's nothing and Cersei/Jaime were just one step ahead of him all the time, lmk your opinions. :)

[Spoilers] Do White Walkers bring winter?

Or does winter bring them?

In the show, whenever we see the Walkers they are accompanied by an aura of extreme cold, darkness, and windy whiteout blizzards. Jon aptly says of the Night King, "he brings the storm." Here's why I think there may be a different explanation.

I don't believe there ever been a time where we were shown for sure that winter is caused by the White Walkers. After all, they've existed in the Lands of Always Winter for eight thousand years, and winters have come and gone since then as normal. This current winter is unique in that the magic they are fueled by is stronger than ever before, and has amplified them (and winter). They do not cause winter per se.

I believe that the White Walkers are "following" the magical aura of Winter (Great Other) that is converging on the world. Another way to look at is when it's summer, the magic of the Lord of Light converges on the world, bringing heat and sunny weather.

When dragons came back into the world, the scales of magical power were tipped and as a result this winter will be more severe, to balance things out again. The White Walkers are simply riding the wave, having bided their time for 8000 years and now being strong enough to attack. They had to wait for winter to come and the Great Other's magic to be stronger, and it's worked out quite well so far (RIP Viserion and Wall).

I have a feeling that if they were able to bring the Wall down in the Summer it would be a very different story. Presumably, they could. It's still cold North of the Wall, and wights/White Walkers don't decompose or melt that we know of. The mortal army would have visibility and not have to deal with the cold and hunger that comes during winter conditions. If only that could be the case.

Unfortunately we're in another Long Night now so we don't have those advantages. Food, cold and morale will all be huge issues. But I really believe the army of the living can still roll over the AotD with coordination and discipline. Just imagine burning hay balls like in Troy, fire catapults, wildfire traps set at strategic choke points, and armies in formation with proper weapons. And their trump card, the dragons.

They have a strong chance, if they whittle away at them and then just do a full strength charge straight for the Night King.

Please share any thoughts you have.

[No Spoilers] What is the functional difference between a greenseer (Jojen Reed) and the Three Eyed Raven/Crow?

Jojen Reed is a greenseer, and the only known greenseer other than the Three Eyed Raven/Crow (Brynden Rivers/Brandon Stark).

Why did he do so much to make sure Bran became the Three Eyed Raven/Crow? If he was a greenseer, couldn't he see as well? What differentiates the two - does Bran have more abilities than Jojen, or is it simply better control over his ability and the ability to stay in the past longer?

[SPOILERS] Why is a white raven sent again in S6?

In the last episode of Season 6 we see a white raven flying to Winterfell signifying that winter has come but there was a white raven sent to King's landing way back in Season 2 and Pycel was talking about the ending of the summer which is basically the same, isn't it?

Who will make it into S5

Ok, regardless if you still like the show or are just a hater that still watches, who do you think of the curretns survivors will make it intto next season? Here's a list:

Group 1: Alicia, Charlie

Group 2: Morgan, Jim, Sarah, Wendell

Group 3: Althea, June

Group 4: Strand, John

Group 5: Luciana

Anyways, I think the new characters (or who survives of them) will be upgraded to the main cast next season.

“Nothing is happening”

This is the weirdest complaint I’ve seen about the show, like what? Jimmy has figured out how to use his mundane job to start a criminal connections operation, Mike has burned bridges with his civilian life and fully embraced the idea of working for Fring, Nacho has pretty much hit rock bottom, it looks like he’ll never be able to leave the life now.

I remember seeing similar complaints about several seasons of Breaking Bad, and even previous seasons of BCS. These shows require patience and buildup to deliver payoff. Even if it’s vague or requires some extra thinking. These writers embrace an organic style of writing, which sometimes flies in the face of traditional tv drama. Sometimes characters need an episode or two to get where there going, we need to see where there headspace is at sometimes, and that requires some downtime and build up. That’s why the shows are better to be binged than watched week by week.

So if you had to choose the best *sports car* for the zombie apocalypse (walking dead universe of course). What would it be?

In S1 you see Glenn driving a brand new (at the time) Dodge Challenger R/T with a big noisy v8, seems like the worst possible car for the situation, with bad fuel economy, lots of noise, and it being low to the ground (although they needed it to attract the walkers attention at the time).

But are there any good options for a sportscar in the apocalypse? It would probably need to be fast and nimble, not to noisy, and be relatively reliable. Would would be your pick?

Can we stop with elitism?

I've kinda noticed that people are being treated like an idiots for criticising the direction of s4. We all love this show, that's why we congregate to this subreddit. But it's okay to criticise the things you love. I've even heard people say stuff like those who haven't enjoyed the last few episodes aren't 'real fans' or that they're missing the point. Everything is subjective. While you may love the season so far other fans are within their rights to make complaints about it. It doesn't make them of a lesser intelligence than you, and I feel it discourages discussion to insinuate that they are.

All the new characters confirmed for this season (S9)

Hershel Rhee (played by Peyton Lockridge) - Maggie's cute baby who first appears in 9x01.

Magna (played by Nadia Hilker) - Speculated to debut in 9x06, after second time jump. She most likely be upgraded to the main cast next season.

Yumiko (played by Eleanor Matsuura) - Speculated to debut in 9x06, after second time jump.

Luke (played by Dan Fogler) - Speculated to debut in 9x06, after second time jump.

Connie (played by Lauren Ridloff) - Speculated to debut in 9x06, after second time jump.

Kelly (played by Angel Theory) - Speculated to debut in 9x06, after second time jump.

Marco (played by Gustavo Gomez) - Long haired guy who is seen in the premier DC supply run.

Ken (played by Unknown) - Blue shirt guy seen in the premier DC supply run, where he dies.

Earl (played by John Finn) - Hilltop blacksmith, seen with his hands tied up in the trailer. If you have read 9x01 spoilers, then you know that's cause he attacked Maggie. Will he be hanged like Gregory in 9x01 or he will be forgiven?

Tammy Rose (played by Brett Butler) - Earl's wife and Ken's mom. Will she be hanged too? Or she will suffer the same fate as her comic counterpart (head on a pike). If she dies in the border, maybe her death will propel Earl to join the militia and redeem himself for his actions agaisnt Maggie.

Justin (played by Zach McGowan) - A hostile Savior, who in the trailer is seen butting heads with Daryl and being knocked over by Henry on the bridge. He and Jed most likely adapt Sherry's comic arc and be one of the primary antagonists of the first half.

Jed (played by Rhys Coiro) - A rebelious Savior, who in the trailer is seen menacing Carol several times and fghting with Aaron on the bridge. He and Justin most likely adapt Sherry's comic arc and be one of the primary antagonists of the first half. Carol is so gonna kill him.

Alpha (played by Samantha Morton) - The next brutal and lethal antagonist, she most likely debut in 9x08 as the Whisperers themselves first appear in 9x06, after the second time jump (Eugene and Rosita were filmming togehter during that time). The mid season most likely ends with her pointing a shotgun to a main head saying "Don't move": She most likley be the main antagonist for 9b and 10a.

Lydia (played by Cassady McClincy) - Alpha's big eyes daughter, who unfortunately seems to be hokking up with Henry, as opposed to Enid, but since Henry is being recasted (Matt Lintz), their scenes wont be cringier.

Beta (played by Ryan Hurst) - Second in comand of the Whisperers. Hopefully the show gives him more development and a better ending than Kirkman did in the comics.

Are there any Breaking Bad characters who still NEED to appear in Better Call Saul?

I've tried posting this in the BCS subreddit but it won't work for some reason.

Cameos from someone like Hank or Walt would be fun and fanservicey, but completely unnecessary as far as the overall storyline is concerned. With Better Call Saul being a prequel, some characters like Gus and Hector NEEDED to appear for the story to flow without leaving plot holes or odd inconsistencies. If Walt Jr. never showed up prior to his introduction on Breaking Bad, it wouldn't make a difference, but if Lydia didn't show up on Better Call Saul, it would be unusual when she suddenly appears in Breaking Bad Season 5 without having played any role in Gus's earlier empire building. At this point, are there any characters left from Breaking Bad who NEED to appear for the story to flow as best as possible from "Uno" to "Felina?"

The mild distaste of episode 4 Talk proves people have too short attention spans

I've noticed recently Talk has gotten a good amount of criticism on this sub for supposedly being boring and "not advancing the plot" and a filler episode. That is all just blatantly wrong. We got:

  1. a beautiful cold open with Mike and his son
  2. an intense shootout involving Nacho and the cousins
  3. Mike absolutely eviscerating the lying dude at therapy
  4. Kim daring the judge to give her work after returning to the courtroom
  5. Nacho and his dad having an emotional scene
  6. Jimmy scheming to appeal to criminals with his new cell phone store
  7. Mike calling out Gus's bluff and getting a new job request from Gus

This was such a meaty, rich episode I'm flabbergasted people did not like it.

Honestly, I think it will end with the cast at Alexandria, which I'm skeptical about, but I'm hopeful that the show can somehow pick up with more character episodes (Alicia and Charlie's episode was one of my faves).

The real reason why Kim went to the courthouse...

I apologize if this theory has already been brought forth but I think that the reason for Kim's courthouse visits is that she wants to become a judge. She first decided to go to the courthouse after being shown the model banks and the huge expansion plan. Kim definitely gave off a vibe that she was unfulfilled by corporate law and wants to do something where she can make a difference, like becoming a judge. Additionally, her infamous rant at Howard Hamlin was about fairness, and how Jimmy was not being treated fairly. This might have motivated her to bring fairness to the world by becoming a judge. Finally, she spends hours watching the judge at the courthouse. The judge thinks that she is sucking up to get a life-changing case but Kim never suggests this or confirms the judges accusal. Therefore, I am inclined to think that she was there to study and learn from the Judge. The show could also use Kim's career change to judge to widen the moral divide between her and Jimmy. Just a theory. What do you all think?

[SPOILERS] Season 6 and Season 7 Plothole?

In the Season 6 finale Dany finally sets sail for Westeros and we can see that she has ships from House Tyrell and House Martell in her fleet. In Season 6 Episode 9 Tyrion says that House Greyjoy's ships and the ships they took from the slaver's will be enough to transport the Dothraki and Unsullied to Westeros.

Since Dany has enough ships for her army she would set sail and leave Meereen. It would be impractical for the ships of the Tyrells and Martells to sail to Meereen to meet her so we can assume that the final scene of Season 6 takes place near the coast of Dorne.

If Dany already had enough ships for her army without the help of the Tyrells and the Martells we know that those ships aren't carrying her army, so who are they carrying? It's clearly not the armies of House Tyrell and House Martell because in Season 7 those armies are still in the Reach and Dorne and Dany has to send part of her fleet to go get them. Why didn't she pick them up while she sailed past Dorne and why weren't they already on the Tyrell and Martell ships?
