The Assassination of Gianni Versace was fantastic

It seems like this season of American Crime Story has been getting a lot of criticism for being slower than the OJ case. It definitely takes its time but I think it pays off. The Versace murder was one that made headlines but didn't feel like as much of a high profile story as the OJ case. I was very young when this happened but the OJ case was sensationalized to the point where I think most people know the basic details no matter the age. I wasn't familiar with many of the details but the writing does well at laying the foundation. I think the narrative structure of this season was also quite compelling. You really get a sense of how Cunanan acted with others while humanizing his victims. The Lee Miglin story, in particular, was a really upsetting episode. And while it wasn't trying to force any political or social commentary, there's an undercurrent of wanting to being accepted.

The performances are universally excellent but Darren Criss was particularly fantastic as Cunanan. It was fascinating to watch his mind at work and interactions with other people. But he wasn't taught any other way.

As someone who knew very little about this going in, it really got me interested in reading more about it.
