Would you like the show to explain Negan's rise to power and the leader before him? Or it be left ambiguous?

Maybe the path to Negan's "redemption" can be him telling Rick how he came into power and what circumstances drove him to be who he was?

I feel like Negan mentioning the previous leader in one of his dialogues and never expanding on it is a huge tease. I want to know who was in charge and how did they lose the power to Negan.
