While seasons one and two were slow, they focused on Jimmy, the main character of the show. We got little glimpses of Mike and the cartel to spice it up, but for the most part, it was a show about Jimmy McGill.
Season three was fantastic. New characters, lots of Jimmy drama, suspenseful after every episode. In my opinion, the show peaked here.
Season four is a disastrous mess. Because of the escalation in the cartel storyline in season three, season four has become so cartel-centric that Jimmy is getting hardly any time. Instead, we get to focus on a story where the how and why is known. The only unknown is Nacho's fate.
Jimmy has been so far removed from the cartel plot, it is like the show is having a civil war; the writers are having an identity crisis. It is clear they wrote themselves into a corner when they suspended Jimmy's law license and killed Chuck, but they don't need to compensate with the cartel plot.
Because the show now has two sub-shows playing within itself, do all of you who said "10 episodes with advertisements is enough" still believe it? I just finished season two of Ozark. It has no ads and a cohesive storyline, not fragmented like BCS. There was always new drama and I feel like each episode moved the, once again, cohesive plot forward.
In my opinion, the show needs to do one of the following: a) increase episodes per season b) reduce cartel screen time c) reduce production time significantly (in which case quality suffers)
Bring on the down votes and the "then don't watch" or the "you are too dumb to appreciate this masterpiece of a show, unsophisticated moron." I'm calling it like I see it, and I think there should at least be a discussion.
