So both Werner and Walt make devastating phone calls to their significant others at night that is not necessarily wrapped in truth for ultimately their protection. However reflecting the contrasts to the their fates when trying to get for their lives from mike, Werner makes the call with Mike present with the idea coming from mike while Walt makes the call on his own after Mike had been deceased for months. Further demonstrating these contrasts, werner's call was his last ever interaction with his wife, while Walt due to careful planning gives himself another opportunity to talk to his wife in his own terms.
