First Time Watcher - halfway through S6

I did posts with my thoughts of each season of TWD and Fear under a previous account, but I made it until the S2 finale before I just needed a break from Fear after (at the time) 10 seasons of zombies.

I'm back now though, and I've just got to ask: Why was this marketed as a prequel show? We got, what, 6 episodes of prequel and then it caught up with the start of TWD? Then it time jumps to even beyond where TWD was until TWD had its own time jump.

I'll be honest, one thing I was looking forward to with this show was learning how it all went down. What the response was. How they missed it all happening. How did it start. Etc and so on.

So just getting one high school kid saying he saw some stuff online and then boom chaos and riots for different reasons and then army lockdown for a few episodes and then everything's the same as TWD was just super underwhelming to me.

So I'm just wondering, why it was marketed that way? Did they just think people with zombie fatigue wouldn't tune in for "the same show with different people?"
