A friend of mine recommended Midnight Gospel, but I misremembered and instead watched the first episode of Midnight Mass.
Had I read anything about it, I never would have. Terms like 'slow burn' and 'religious themes' and (another word I'll avoid as it might be seen as a spoiler). I generally avoid all that.
Yet, 5 episodes in, I'm captivated. I've been surprised more than once by how something went. The script is normally top notch (can drag a bit for my taste on occasion), and when it is good - combined with truly top notch acting from people I have never heard of before - it is really great. Samantha Sloyan (as Bev) does such great things (closet scene with the sheriff).
Anyway, I like it.
