Alexandria is still burning. A ceremony is held for the ones who died. Gabriel makes a speech. Rick is standing alone, broken, listening to the priest. Aaron and Maggie are here, everyone else who's still is, from both ASZ and Hilltop. We see Heath's grave, Tobin, Scott and Francine mourning. We see Tara's grave and then Cyndie and Rosita crying. Over Gabriel's speech, we see people gathering the food they can save, the weapons from the dead Saviors, the explosives that Dwight left behind, as Gabriel talks about people changing. At the end, Rick sheds a tear as Gabriel talks about the dead, saying that they will rest in peace, no matter if their body was found or not, and camera slides to reveal Michonne's grave.
CREDITS ROLL.
Back in the infirmary. Rick is holding hands to Carl (who's still asleep). Maggie and Carol enter and Maggie tells Rick they all must go to settle at the Hilltop, but they'll have to do it quickly before the Saviors come to check if everyone's really dead here. She says that Carol, Rosita and Cyndie should stay here a little more time to take care of Daryl and Carl, and as she says this, Carl opens his eyes. Rick hugs him. Carl asks where Michonne is and his father starts crying.
Cuts to Rick getting out of the infirmary. In a beautiful shot he sees his city now mainly destroyed and covered in smoke. Carl is following him, with a sad and broken look on his eyes. Maggie is behind them. Rick announces everyone they are moving to the Hilltop. Maggie says they'll take the few cars they have left to take the children, the old people and the supplies, but the rest will have to move on foot. The crowd agrees. Everyone starts getting ready but Rick grabs Carl and talks with him. He says he wants him to go in the cars, but Carl furiously tells him he'll go on foot with the warriors, no matter what his father wants. He is clearly mad at this dad.
Maggie goes to say a last goodbye to Sasha at her grave. In the cemetary, she finds Aaron mourning over Eric's grave. They talk a bit about Alexandria and we learn a lot about Aaron, how was his life before, how he met Eric, how they found Alexandria. After that they return at the gates, and everyone is packing stuff in the cars. The children are put in, and Rick asks Maggie to go in the cars aswell for her baby (her baby is starting to seriously grow). She eventually accepts and takes Judith with her. She asks Enid to go too but she says she is staying with Carl. Maggie tells her to stay safe and to keep the others safe. The cars leave as the remaining soldiers watch them.
Cuts to Michonne. She is on top of a car with her walkers tied beside it. She is watching her map. She has the Hilltop and Kingdom locations written on it, but she doesn't seem to want to try this life again, not without her friends. She seems really hesitating but then she sees the Sanctuary written on her map. Her eyes are filled with hatred. She jumps from the car and takes her walkers with her.
The Saviors return to the Sanctuary. Negan looks very proud of his Saviors. When Eugene learns what happened at Alexandria and how UnHeath killed Tara, he goes alone in his room and cries. The wives notice.
Rick is standing at the gates. He turns around and sees what remains of his army : Carl and Enid holding hands, Tobin, Francine, Scott, Kent, Bruce, Jesus, Aaron, Gabriel, and other redshirts from Alexandria and Hilltop. He looks at Alexandria for a last time, turns again to the road, and starts waking. The group follows him. Carol watches them as they leave, then gets back in the infirmary.
Cuts to the group walking in the woods. They are all carrying guns and bags. Rick is walking ahead of everyone, without talking to anyone. Tobin asks Francine what she thinks he has, and she says he is probably sad. Everyone seems to be quite skeptic about him now, but Carl makes a good speech where he tells them to remember who saved them from themselves, from Pete or from the herd. He says they are all gonna be ok because his father is still here. He defends his dad very well even though he is clearly mad at him. Rick overhears.
The group reaches the former building where the small building where the Hilltopers used to deliver the drops before the Alexandrians killed their Saviors (the house where Rick & others saved several Hilltopers in 6x11). Rick says it won't be very far away from here. But as he says this walkers start coming. The group stands in formation but even more walkers arrive. They are forced to fight their way through. Rick is overrun but Carl saves him. Maggie comes to help with the tractor. After the dead are all defeated Carl tells his dad they are the only thing left to each other, and they must help each other, even though he is quite mad at him right now. The group starts walking again.
At night, Carol, Rosita and Cyndie are still inside the infirmary, sitting around Daryl, but have fallen asleep. All of a sudden, Daryl wakes up, and sees his leg. It's a gut wrenching scene as Daryl yells and cries and screams as he tries to stand up and falls over and over again. The girls wake up and Carol has tears in her eyes when she tries to explain him what happened. After he eventually calms down (mostly because of the fever), Rosita goes to take water and she notices the water system is still working, and so is the power system. Daryl falls asleep again.
Outside, Carol is smoking. Rosita comes to her and tells her they have lost two good warriors today because Daryl won't be able to fight anymore. Carol is thinking and doesn't answer. Rosita ends up saying they need Oceanside so she and Cyndie will go there to give them new guns. Carol agrees and the other girls leave after Rosita kisses Daryl on the head. Carol comes to sit beside Daryl, holds his hand and falls asleep by his side. At morning he wakes up, swallows a bunch of medicine to calm the pain, takes a gun and crawls to a car. The noises of it awakes Carol, but it's too late : Daryl is gone.
Eugene is packing his stuff. He tells Negan he wants to leave. Negan answers by revealing he knows about the missing explosives he gave to Carol. He has the Saviors to beat up Eugene. Negan throws Eugene in a cell and tells his time as a king here is over.
