While Tamzin Merchant is an okay actor, I never felt in 8 episodes of Carnival Row the depth of emotions that Emilia seems to always give in her roles, and variety she put forth as Dany in GoT.
At first I thought Tamzin's character in Carnival called for the semi-flat performance just based on who the character was. Then after the character was put in broader circumstances through the season, I realized that Tamzin just didn't have the chops that would have been required for the role.
Say what you will about GoT as a whole, they did an excellent job casting, and made a very good choice in redoing the pilot with who turned out to be an all-star cast.
