With all the rumors about ricks return and the movies and season 11 being connected I figured I would say what I think would be best overall for the walking dead main show, spinoffs not included.
I think that the movies should be scrapped altogether. By the time a first one is made the show will already be quite far removed from ricks disappearance and not to mention two more after that. They should keep everything in one medium.
Season 11a can be about wrapping up the whisperers and discovering the commonwealth with season 11b being about ricks disappearance and ending with a quick scene of michonne finding rick or something.
Season 12 could then be the final season of the show with the commonwealth and whatever group rick is with coming head to head and keeping the show within the story confines of the comic and ending close to where that did as well. This would also be much better for rick and michonne considering he was on for three movies which she would have likely been in and one more season to be involved in is far less work and time commitment overall than three movies.
The two universe can still exist and maybe use characters from the main show appearing in other spinoffs or connecting them but this would give the main show a fitting ending that still makes Rick the overall main character of the story.
