South Park was made available on HBO Max today. Out of 307 episodes, 302 are on the service.
The banned episodes are Season 5’s “Super Best Friends,” Season 10’s “Cartoon Wars: Part I” and “Cartoon Wars: Part II”, and Season 14’s “200” and “201”.
What all these episodes have in common are depictions of the Muslim prophet Mohammad.
Comedy Central heavily censored “200” and (especially) “201” when broadcast, much to the criticism of the fanbase as well as series creators themselves. HBO Max choosing to not carry the other three episodes shows evidence of the worst scenario which is an increased acceptance of (or perceived demand for) censorship. If anything a better move for HBO Max would’ve been to carry restored versions of “200” and “201” rather than remove a further three episodes.
For those at HBO Max to feel the necessity to ban episodes from their platform in the name of religion demonstrates a sad regression in our society. It’s 2020 we should be past this long ago, not to mention it’s just fuckin’ South Park, people... 🤦♂️
