I have been considering doing my own edit of season 4 and putting the story in order and watching it all just to see if I would enjoy the overall story more.
It might look something like this:
- The story starts with "Another Day in the Diamond" (that was episode 2 of season 4) There are no flash forwards. The story moves straight through and we see Madison and company working together at the stadium to improve life.
- The entire Vultures, Charlie and June storyline gets introduced. The story plays out as it already does. Madison attempts peaceful resolutions, ultimately meets her supposed fate.
- Madison's arc wraps up still in episode 8. We do not even see Morgan until teased at the end of episode 8. Episode 8 ends with the way "What's Your Story" starts with Morgan and John Dorie meeting at night near that campfire. Fans have no idea how Morgan got there or what's even going on.
- Episode 9 picks up with a more brief backstory of how Morgan left and ended up in Texas. Basically episode 1 (What's your Story) is this episode. It sets up the 2nd half of the story.
- Most of the flash forward scenes in the first half of the season could be dropped. I would drop the entire Martha villain plot. Make the entire 2nd half plot about Morgan meeting up with Nick, Alycia and others, Nick's death should be toward the end of the season. Most of the Morgan stuff gets cut from the 2nd half, forcing his character to feel more supportive rather than lead. I would drop the entire "We're coming to help you" arc.
I'm not convinced 16 episodes are needed for season 4. A lot can be trimmed. I would say 12 episodes could be potentially really good with a trimmed down linear version.
