Negan has to actually show regret to be redeemed

Does anyone else think that Negan has to show some actual regret for his actions (murdering someone's husband in front of them and laughing about it, basically keeping sex slaves, ironing people's faces for not agreeing with him, being an authoritarian leader with zero regards for other people) in order to actually be redeemable for the viewer?

I mean, sure, he's definitely turned into a much better person the last two seasons but I still feel like he doesn't really regret his actions-- it feels more like he just regrets losing everything he had as the leader of the Saviors. The closest thing we've seen is when he threw up at the clearing where he killed Glenn and Abe, but that was due to unclean water from what I remember.

He only shows regret when it has to do with his wife, which IMO is a bit selfish since that is just about his own pain. For Negan to believably be a good person right now, he has to look back on everything he was in S7-8 with disgust. Otherwise, he's still that extremely bad person deep down.
