I'm a weird person in the sense that I don't see comedy shows the same way as many other people. I find myself being disappointed after binge-watching shows that are overly happy all the time because, well, real life is just not like that. That's just the way that I personally think.
In fact, I find myself appreciating my air-conditioned room and cozy bed the most when I watch crime/suspense shows. Needless to say, I loved Breaking Bad. But I could also understand why some people DIDNT like it. After all, there were some pretty dark themes and tones in the show.
In my opinion, Better Call Saul draws the perfect balance between being overly jolly and being overly dark. The show has enough seriousness and suspense to keep you hooked, but enough comedy (credit to Bob Odenkirk's performance) to keep you in a good mood before AND after the show. I would even go so far as to say that it is the most "realistic" show that I have watched. It also focuses heavily on character development and exploring the backgrounds and key moments that set up the scene for Breaking Bad.
Its a great show to watch after a long day of work as it also goes into the struggles of a middle-class man (and woman) in modern society.
The overall vibe is homely and welcoming and is clean enough to watch with the family (if that's your thing). But if you've watched Breaking Bad, I'd say Better Call Saul is pretty much a must. However, if you haven't, the show is still amazing and I'd definitely give it a shot.
