Let me explain so in the books, Joffrey is 12. He is essentially a middle school with an abusive father and an overprotective narcissistic mother. Then take away the father suddenly and tragically whose approval Jeffrey always wanted but never got and then have his father's best friend in his eyes try to take his father's power for himself according to his narcissistic mother. Then make him king and proceed to throw him into a crisis where he has no one who is honestly in his corner to help him because they want to help him. Throw in the idea of him having to marry his father's best friend who tried to use herb his throne and you start to t see that maybe joffrey needed someone who had his best interests at heart truly and wasn't out only for themselves
It's depressing to think about, but joffrey has no one other than cersei who has mentioned above is very narcissistic and out of all the children at the start of the books he arguably has the worst childhood other than maybe his little brother and Daenerys
I know everyone's thinking it but I'm hand waving the incest since Daenerys is a widely loved character and she's more inbred than he is
