TWD ending was great for what it was in my opinion aside from nitpicks… I just had one major character complaint.

Firstly. We can complain all we want about favorite characters dying or suddenly disappearing (actors leaving the show mostly to be honest). But this right now is not what I would like to focus on and as far as I believe it’s not a valid criticism because while we could judge how those characters got send offs, it’s pointless to me to criticize future episodes/seasons because of unavoidable absences that no one can control.

Secondly, there’s a lot of hate towards Maggie and Negan’s dynamic up until the end. Don’t care, I love it, I think it’s fantastic and perfect. I fully buy how they played Negan here. If you read the comics you likely would also love how his character was done and you would see that the result low key wasn’t much different than how the show did it. If anything the show made Negan even stronger and more complex. Yes, Negan did a lot of horrible shit. Yes, he was fucked up for a long time and still kind of was by the end of the show. But whether you like it or not, people can change, even the most fucked up people. And I think Negan was handled very well. I will talk respectfully further if ya’ll really want to have dialogue.

Anyway: my personal big character issue is Lydia. I loved how she was handled in most of season 10, was a huge fan of her and Negan’s reconciliation too. She became a top five favorite character for me in season 9 + 10. I’m frustrated how intensely she got sidelined in season 11 until the end. Even then I disagree with how she got used. Unlike past seasons, my biggest genuine issue with 11 is how the showrunners suddenly seemed incompetent with balancing a huge cast of characters in terms of screen time, even prior to the Commonwealth. Lydia deserved better and she got very little time to shine. And a half-rushed love interest. I don’t know. I just don’t think she deserved to be sidelined unlike a few particular other main characters.

EDIT: It also doesn’t help that Lydia’s ending in the comics also kind of makes me upset too. I never understood Robert Kirkman’s obsession with having Carl end the story without being somehow paired with Lydia. He seemed so intent on it by the end. And their chemistry is undeniable to me. I do like Lydia’s ending a bit better in the show. But still. She just deserved a lot better overall.
