Let's Talk About Gavin

Ah, Gavin. The reasonable Savior. The angry dad who's pissed at his kid for getting sent to the principal's office. What's his deal? There are actually a coupe articles out there, it was either Gimple or Kirkman who explained that he's just doing what he has to to survive.

Just wondering what other people's thoughts on him are. High ranking Saviors like Simon, Dwight, and Arat are all shown to be sadistic and violent. Just like Negan himself. How has Gavin managed to climb the ranks without being a prick like the others? He makes threats, took some Kingdom guns, and ordered Richard killed, but only after more than one warning. He's certainly the only Savior we've seen sympathetic over a character death (Benjamin).

Another thought I had– with Dwight joining up with Team Family, and Sherry/Honey probably following suit next season, do you think Negan's other lieutenant with a conscience will defect? He has relatively little blood on his hands and could prove a good asset if Rick is interested. I suspect as the tide turns in All Out War, we'll see more Savior defections.

The character intrigued me from the get-go. His actor is a theatre guy, and his performance has contrasted to the over-acting and overly-dramatic performances this season, like Rick and Michonne's monologues, Negan's excessive one-liners, or the up up up idiots.

Thoughts, opinions, etc.
